NJC dismisses Innoson Motors chairman’s petition against Lagos judge

The National Judicial Council has dismissed a petition written by the Chairman of Innoson Motors, Chief Innocent Chukwuma, against Justice Mojisola Dada of the Lagos State Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had charged Chukwuma and his company with alleged forgery and stealing before the judge.


But the businessman has repeatedly failed to appear before the judge for his arraignment.

At the prompting of the EFCC, the judge issued a bench warrant against Chukwuma and later declared him wanted.

But accusing the judge of misconduct, Chukwuma wrote the NJC, calling for the probe of Justice Dada over the bench warrant issued for his arrest.


However, the NJC, in a letter dated June 4, 2018, a copy of which our correspondent sighted on Friday, said it found no wrongdoing against the judge. The NJC, however, directed the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Opeyemi Oke, to withdraw Chukwuma’s case from Justice Dada and re-assign it to another judge.

The NJC letter, signed by its Secretary, Ahmed Saleh, read in part, “Your petition dated February 12th, 2018 on the above subject matter and the reaction to same by Hon. Justice M.A. Dada of the High Court of Justice, Lagos State, were considered by the National Judicial Council at its meeting, which held on 9th March, 2018.


“At the end of the deliberation, the council did not find any act of misconduct on the part of the honourable judge. However, if the case is still pending before Hon. Justice M.A. Dada, same will be returned to the Chief Judge for re-assignment to another judge, please.”

Afonjas already making noise to deceive gullible Nigerians, to make it seem like Innoson is at fault or guilty. First and foremost, NJC - National Judicial Council is not a court, it's just a corrupt organization of the judiciary. So what they think or say is irrelevant. We only believe the court. The supreme court had ruled in favor of Innoson and Innoson being a democrat believes so much in the judiciary and has gone back to the same judiciary where his lawyer filed a petition against the justice Dada who took bribe to arrange his arrest while his case was sure to be decided by the supreme court in days.

If the judge wasn't changed, and he ruled against the defendant, he can always claim that the justice served was as a result of prejudice.

They would usually transfer the case to a new judge because the Judge may have been angered by the petition or its contents. Now since the matter is a criminal one, fair hearing demands that the trial be conducted free of any bias or prejudices which may have arisen by reason of the petition. That is why the NJC transfered to a new judge.

There is no contradiction. What NJC did is standard practice. It is believed that the Judge may not be able to maintain neutrality on the case even though she has been cleared of any wrong doing.

After dragging the Judge before NJC and giving it so much media publicity! She is only human and may approach Inosson's case with a vengeance if allowed to continue before her.

Inosson is digging his grave by not engaging Gtbank in conclusive negotiations. His media war against the bank is making the Judiciary careful and wary of him. The outcome may not be nice. At all!
