Bro, the only problem is that we pray and do nothing! We think prayer will do the magic and make manna to fall from heaven. Faith without work will avail us nothing. The solutions to our problems is always within our reach. That is why sad event like this will keep happening if we only pray to wish it away and do nothing to prevent re-occurrence.
You are so very right bro.
I concur with all you said.

blaming the government and agencies is very easy - so what about the owners of teh truck that failed to maintain it?
if the government starts serious regulation of the trucking industry, there is every possibility you will be out complaining about their wickedness and how they are taking away peoplé's livelihoods

Who do you think we should blame? We elected the Government to make life easy for all of us and they took oath of office to protect and defend us with all their might! Any business man including the tanker owners will always look for easy ways to make profit at the expense of everybody. It is left for the Government to ensure 100% compliance to regulations! So my friend, all these calamities are as a result of poor governance.

The end is close. Jesus that has been talked and preached about is coming. God only answers one prayer now and Its the prayer of forgiveness. Ask for his mercy and forgiveness, turn away from sin, have a pure heart, be kind, tell someone that Jesus is coming. God only takes the prayer of mercy and forgiveness. Any prayer other than forgiveness is a waste of time.

the more we adhere to the manner of blaming everything that happens on either somebody or some people, the more we fail to ever learn to take responsibility. Check it: when blames fly, it reciprocates. The blamer is blamed back, and the subjects rots away.

Lets build a straight open senate.

that is typical nigerian reasoning - and the real reason we will continue to have these issues

you take no responsibility whatsoever for your actions

you think you are smart by gaming the system

if you have to be told what to do then you are little more than a child.

Today, the government says they want to regulate social media, Nigerians start wailing

the same nigerians that refuse to think of the consequences of spreading hatred, violating peoples privacy, and telling outright lies

this is Lagos - and ambode is a hardcore media hungry fellow. there will be repercussions

and when they start, you may be one of the first here comlaining about how wicked and evil teh government is

why do you think LASG want to manage mass transit in lagos? because they recognize that your danfo drivers cannot be regulated.

half of the hold ups are caused by their own selfishness and irresponsibility

There is blame for everyone in this tragedy.

sad Even though I'm a born again Christian, the nonsense we Christians do on that road is enough to attract the anger of natural disasters. Christians have claimed Ibadan expressway as their entitlement hereby causing traffic jams with irresponsible church programs that would have been banned in Saudi Arabia or other sane countries. If that tanker driver had not encountered traffic jam due to Christian churches on that road, he would have swerved into the bush and this wasted lives will be saved. You are a big fool. What does the tanker that caught fire have to do with any religion? Dude let your brain grow with your age.

Religion operates in cahoots with politics. Deliberately in many cases. Religious faith is used to pacify people. To hope in God and leave those in authority to continue mismanaging.

Prayer strengthens faith, nothing wrong with whoever that's his cup of tea. But things we can do easily, things other serious minded minded across the world do to better their lives, do we need prayers to do them? NO!

Even as a human parent there are things you expect your kids to be able to do routinely depending on age and training. He/she doesn't need appealing to you to have it done for them.

But in 9ja, to pour sand in puddles in the street, na prayer. To get PHCN light, na prayer. Haba!

Disasters will continue to happen if we do not do our part. God ain't coming to spoon feed us. We are not in the wilderness, so expect no manna from heaven.

Simple rules we cannot properly formulate and enforce ruthlessly.

He's full of kaka.

This is not true "In organized societies, where traffic is a major issue, tankers and heavy duty vehicles move at night or at specified times."

Not sure why they must embellish.

PS: "Some" heavy-duty vehicles move mostly at night due to drivers convenience since traffic will be light especially in the inner city. They travel at all time of the day on the open roads.

Fuel tankers don't travel great distances because depots are located in urban areas where fuel can be easily distributed.

The solution is driver training and equipment verification.

In my state, there is a specific section of the California Highway Patrol that focuses on trucks. They will pull trucks over and perform a full and complete safety check. This includes getting under the truck, inspecting the brakes, suspension, etc. Not a cursory look but an inspection.

Some of the trucks I see on the roadway in Nigeria should be carried, not driven, straight to a scrapyard.

We're not serious yet in Nigeria. This is why we allow strikes to change the national movement.

A large part of the issue is regulation and personal responsibility.

Too many of these trucks have no business being in business.
Re: Ali Baba Reacts To Otedola Bridge, Lagos Tanker Fire by ashpee(m): 6:28am On Jun 29, 2018
Growing up in the mid 90s, container trucks, fuel tankers and other heavy duty movement used to be at night.

In Port Harcourt specifically, I used to see these vehicles queuing at the toll gate till around 9-10 pm before they enter the city center.

We need these restrictions back.

Great thoughts AliBaba.

Most Nigerians are reactive people. They react to everything. Nobody is proactive . All they do is pray.
I have come to a conclusion after studying prayers for a long while that it is a waste of time.
Prayers cannot change anything on the face of this earth. But Nigerians keep praying instead of being proactive to life to avoid disasters. Nigeria is a back ward country with backward government. Nigerians are so daft that they elect blind people to lead them. After election, they start crying. Keep electing blind people to lead you and very soon, they send all of you to early grave. Nigerians wake up! wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!

Another problem is people like Ali Baba will then make comedy about our lawlessness, people laugh about it and it continues as usual. If only we can talk like serious people at all times and remain resolute in finding solutions to our problems, we will get there.

We are really in a lawless country Alibaba

Idiotic Buhari kill at will and go scot free

Boko haram kill at will and go scot free

Fulani herdsmen kill at will and move around with impunity.

No one to question them. Can all this happen in a sane country were law abound? No! we see things like this only in a shithole were there's no regard for rule of law.

We are yet to recover from plateau massacre, today another one has happened claiming lives and properties, and the clueless one in aso rock is yet to sympathize with the victim, what a president!

To the innocent school children that lost their lives today, Rest in peace lil angels, and may God comfort your families.
Oh shut it!
Read his write up very well, it has been a national issue from inception. If we truly want to get it right, we should drop the blame game and face the issues, head on.

Some goats here are quick to lay the blame at the feet of the present government.

Senseless!!!.

We are all bunch of lawless people in Nigeria.
Make simple laws and the average Nigerian cannot keep to it.
Enforce those laws, and the organisations like Police,LASTMA etc that should are simply useless.

Even small Cotonou beside us here is better organises. It's not about their government. It's simply about the attitude of the citizens to simple laws and respect for authority
