Travel transcript.
So I couldn’t literally sleep that night,my dad took me to the airport around 6am for a 12pm flight. Got to the airport around 7am. Waited till 8:30 for check in to start. I checked in around 8:40. Then went straight to immigration counters for clearance. Then boarded the Emirates aircraft at exactly 11:05. The plane left by 12:05. It was a long journey to Dubai first. Almost 8 hours.
Got to Dubai around 11pm Dubai time. I don’t want to criticize muritala Muhammed airprort, but you people need to see Dubai International Airport DXB.
I was astonished by everything I saw. They have a system that works. Layover was for 3 hours.
Then we boarded the next plane around 2:35. From Dubai to Jfk. A 14 hour 45 minutes flight.
That flight was so long. 14 hours nobi beans oo.
But the in-flight entertainment was so suberp that u will be occupied throughout the flight. Lots of latest films and music. I even watched arsenal vs bbournemouth aboard. That experience is one in a lifetime. Good food ,hostess were no nice.
Got to Jfk around 8:45 USA time. Then went straight to port of entry line.
Poe: hello. Why are you here.
Me: for my studies
Poe: lemme have ur i20 and admission letter. (Hands it. She checks)
Okay. Have it. Where are you going to be staying now. It’s almost Xmas.
Me: I have a friend in New York.
Poe: ok. Stamps passport. Welcome to the United States
Then I went to claim my bag and my guy was waiting already. Mehn the way I felt at that moment I saw him has no name. That feeling is nameless.
But one mad brezz first blow me as I stepped out. I was like yes. This is USA. It was so cold. 2 degrees.
This country is so beautiful. Then you start to wonder what’s wrong with Nigeria. Funniest part is that. Our leaders come here and they see how things are done, yet they still act like bunch of fools. It’s so annoying.
I hope Nigeria will be better someday. But it is better to be praying for Nigeria from another county grin grin

you are so lucky...chai... i pray mine comes too... may you be more succesful than you think of there...amen..... enjoy yourself brother!!

and do you think my account will be updated before 27th December when I have my appointment? won't another barcode be generated to me this way?

Why is anyone not helping out sad sad sad sad sad sad

grandy09:
Good day people and Merry Xmas..This is not the way I was expecting to start my Christmas but at this point, I am leaving everything in God's hands..My interview was supposed to be on the 10th at the Lagos Consulate but I was giving a turned back later, because the barcode on my appointment confirmation was from my last interview in July instead of the one from the recently filled Ds 160 form in November..So after three days I updated the barcode( I didn't fill another form) but I could not get any closer available date as my school starts Jan 9..So I requested for an expedited appointment which was approved but I was still not able to find any available date before the start of my program on the 9th in Lagos, however I was able to get a closer date in Abuja which is 27th so I went ahead to book the appointment..So this morning I was scrolling through nairaland and I read somewhere that if you don't submit your ds160 to Abuja location, they won't see on their system when I get there..Please how true is this? I'm very confused because I emailed support@ustraveldocs.com before making the emergency request and asked if I could chose Abuja as my location and then request for an expedited appointment in Lagos, as it is closer to me (I live in Ibadan)..They replied saying I could choose whichever interview location convenient for me...Abuja is a long journey from Ibadan and I only booked Abuja because Lagos didn't have an available date..Now I am so confused and it would be disastrous traveling all the way to Abuja tomorrow only to be giving another turned back letter..Please kindly help if you have answers, thank you..

DL is usually based on the validity of your I-20(study duration) however, states like Washington states(confirmed),Colorado(unconfirmed) issues 5-6years DL as long as the applicant meets the residency requirements.

Please house help me scrutinize my proposed transcript.
VO: What do you know about Denton?
Me: Denton is a City in Denton County, Texas. It has a population of 128,421 people, with a median age of 29 years. It consists majorly of whites, Hispanic and blacks. It is popularly regarded as a college city and hosts both the University of North Texas and Texas Woman's University. It is also known for its music and art
VO: Why don't you want to study this course in your country?
Me: The health informatics program is quite young in Nigeria and just a handful of universities offer the course at the moment. Studying in the US will provide more quality education through research and practical knowledge as much as possible, so it is quite an obvious choice for me.

please try to reread old transcripts.... i am not trying to be a bad belle o.. they will mostly ask why usa...instead of denton,

plus you should talk about weaknesses you find in the universities offering the course, instead of saying you want to study abroad because the universities offering the course are few in nigeria..... cos does it being few mean the lecturers are substandard and lack knowledge? .... it may not work...

Hello All,
I’m a longtime follower of this thread and I feel compelled to share this.
It’s apparent that there has been a policy shift in the US regarding issuing of student and other non-immigrant visas. This isn’t the first time it’s happening and it won’t be the last. I look back to ten years ago and I remember even people with Ivy League admissions being refused on their first try at getting a student visa from Nigeria to the US. Check out this thread - https://gmatclub.com/forum/f-1-visa-denied-good-ending-31273.html

If you compare this Nairaland US Student thread to the same thread this time last year, it’s like night and day. Something is definitely going on. I was so disheartened when I read about the student with full funding plus monthly stipends posted last week over a tiny deficit in funds.

So what do we do now?

Here are some tips;

For Current Students
I know students monitor this thread, so I’ll start with them. If you are still in school, focus on your studies, aim for a 2.1 or first class as this opens up now international graduate study opportunities in the US and beyond.
Build productive formal relationships with your faculty so you have strong future recommenders.
Choose at least 1 extracurricular activity and excel at it. It could be student government, it could be debating, it could be working with a charity organisation.
Internships and work placements related to your course of study.
All these will make you a super candidate with access to more scholarships and higher ranked schools.
In addition, many people don’t know it’s easier to build your travel history as a student. From your second year, you can ask all these uncles and aunties to start inviting you for holidays. Embassies are pretty open to REAL students going on holiday. Also if you are in a debating or computing team for example, there may be international competitions you attend as a team.

For Graduates - Current and Intending Applicants
Start Early:
Because of the relaxed visa policy over the past few years - thank you President Obama, many have gotten away with last minute applications, admissions and visa issuance. Unfortunately, things have changed. Apply months in advance. This will help you avoid the ‘brain touch’ going on right now. I see people with December appointment dates being rescheduled for January with no consideration for the resumption dates.
Getting your admission early also gives you an opportunity to go for a second or even third visa interview if your first attempt is denied.

Do all you can do:
Some people will come here and say they didn’t do GRE, they applied at the last minute, yet they got full funding and visa on the first try. While those people are blessed, remember, they are the exception, not the rule. Be thorough, do your GRE or GMAT and excel. If TOEFL is needed, do it, if you can apply for a waiver, apply on time for one. Research your programme well, communicate with faculty, write a compelling and authentic personal statement or essays. Know and understand clearly WHY you are going for this course.

Your Visa Form:
Some people don’t even need to go for the visa interview because it’s a NO from the form (joke o but seriously...).
Fill your visa form yourself, read it over and over and over again before submitting. Be honest and be confident about the content.

Interview Prep:
This is pretty much one of the best things about this thread. Read successful transcripts but don’t go and repeat what you heard. Be confident and prepared to have a conversation with the VO. We all know the questions they ask at this point. Answer honestly and confidently. Remember no one word answers. Create an engaging conversation.

Honesty and Ethics:
Whether we like it or not, bad eggs are part of the reason for this present visa denial trend. From fake bank statements to all sorts of tricks. For your sake and for the sake of our fellow intending students, don’t do anything dodgy and also be wise. We have seen cases of ‘uncles’ giving people fake statements on this thread. GTBank has this function where statements can be sent directly to the embassy, if your sponsor uses their bank, you can suggest that in addition to giving you the printed statement. I’ve heard this makes admin processing smoother.

Pray:
So many testimonies. It’s needed.

For the Discouraged
This is for those who have been refused several times and are discouraged.
Hug for you. All will be well.

If you are a really committed to graduate study, don’t give up.
While the US has such a rich mix of universities offering almost every course you can dream of, plus juicy funding options, it is not the only option.

Try Another Country:
UK, Canada, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, Netherlands etc..
All have funded options available. Is it harder to get than the USA, you may say so. Is it impossible? Nope.
Commonwealth scholarships
Gates scholarship
Chevening Scholarship
etc
There are many more. Google is your friend. There are also specialist sites that offer this info. For example, https://scholarshipsandaid.org

Build Your Professional Profile:
You can also consider professional fellowships and competitions to boost your profile and even travel history. You can find on https://www.opportunitiesforafricans.com

Plug Any Gaps:
If the USA is still your ultimate, what were the gaps in your last application. Work towards filling them. For example, if you wanted to use your Masters to change your career path, how about getting a job in that area so when you want to try again, this proves you are committed to the career. If your issue was inadequate funds, work on getting a funded offer or formal scholarship.

Wishing you all the best.

Good day, I would really appreciate any assistance/guidance. I have a background in EE engineering and intend pursuing an ms industrial engineering.(Summer/fall intake)
I currently haven’t taken GRE (I have just IELTS), can GRE be waived or there schs that do not require it.
However, I plan on taking GRE by the first week of February. Please, which schools would you recommend in Texas (considering cost and post study employment).
I’m still reading through the thread but it’s quite overwhelming given the short time I have to get things sorted out. Please I would appreciate your help. Thanks

Good day all and the gurus in the house. Let me first of all start by wishing everybody a Merry Christmas.

Please I am compiling my transcript for my interview that will be on the 7th of January next year. There's a particular anticipatory question I just answered from two perspective, I will like the gurus to help me judge which is better to use on the day of the interview.

Alright here it goes:

V.O: Why did you choose MSIN (Masters in Information Systems) ?
Ans: I chose MSIN because that's what I have been doing since 2015. Although I work as a Network Administrator in my place of work, my job has exposed me to the side of web and application development. Since last year, I have started tutoring myself in some of the concept of web and application development such as Object Oriented Programming, Data Structures and Algorithms, Test Driven Development, and how is beneficial to programming along with some programming languages like HTML/CSS and JavaScript. This effort I have made has made me realize that I love programming, and this what I want to do, and why I chose MSIN so that I can improve my skills in it, and launch my career as a Web and Application Programmer. Touro College offered exactly just that through their MSIN program which is also designed for students who have no background in Computer Science with their three prerequisite courses which are Computer Concept, Web programming I and II, and. Database Concept and Design.

Taking these courses will give me the necessary qualifications to proceed with the program and acquire the skills I need excel in my chosen career path.

Please help me compare with this.

V.O: I have been a Web developer since 2015, and I am seeking to improve my skills and become an expert in back-end web and application development, so I searched specifically for courses that could afford me the knowledge and skills I need to improve in my field and chosen path so that I can achieve my goal of excelling in my career, likewise improving Nigeria's economy through technology. Touro College offered exactly that through the MSIN program with courses such as web and application development, advanced web and application development, website engineering, Database Management and Administration, along with some elective courses which I shall complete in two years.

Please gurus, help me choose which is better. Thank you very much.

Use the feedback option on the page where you schedule your appointment. The embassy is directly responsible for every query you send from there.

There was a scheduled outage which has now been extended. Hopefully it is back up before end of day 27th December. I would expect DHS to communicate officially to the Embassies if SEVIS payments cannot be made by end of day 27th due to the implication this has on student visa interviews.

You also want to study in the USA because you see others going there or because this is a dream and a personal decision? This is not something you should choose because others choose this path. It is a decision you must sit down and think thoroughly about before you start the journey. If you choose this path, you may never be the same again.

If it is your dream, then I advice you to compile your profile.
Age
Academic level and qualification
Program you'd like to study
Can you afford it?
Can you/will you write the tests?
When would you like to start?
Are you ready to start and see this to the end?

You may want to answer these questions--for yourself.

If you need help, read this thread; if you need additional help, PM me or ask someone here.
