onajison: Nigeria lack money management skills especially during the period of plenty money in our national treasury. That is why I join the association of Nigeria praying against international crude oil price rise. This is because when Nigeria political leaders get the money they MIS-SPENT AND SQUANDERED THE WHOLE MONEY |

Guyman02: Sadly and Unfortunately, it is the same "igbo people" a.k.a IPOB, that are castigating the President, on this same issue! So, which igbo should we believe now? The educated and smart ones like this woman or the miscreants that litter the South West shouting Witch-hunt all over the place, led by that fraudster called nnamdi Cownu? 2 Likes 1 Share |

This is something to do with employment law i think? and tax law Uber, air bnb, deliveroo and other "disrupter" companies also do the same thing. it helps them bypass some particular regulations but im not sure which |

This is not ideal for an embassy job. The job is way too important. Some staff could get into trouble with HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) over tax payment. If they do not use a proper accountant to file their income tax. 1 Like |

AreaFada2: It doesn’t mean they’d be doing the accounting themselves. Some would still engage professional accountants. The fee normally isn’t much. The employment ‘contract’ with the Nigerian High Commission isn’t a very reliable one and probably some reckoned that they’ve been paying a lot more tax resulting in staff not being able to save money. When you are ‘self employed ‘, you’d be able to reflect your expenses properly, some people do include expenses like ‘certain clothes’ you wear for work, shoes, breakfast/lunch expenses at work, transport fares/petrol expenses and other miscellaneous items. Some will list their cars as part of their companies and therefore expenses such as tyre change/ garage services, MOT etc are all included in the accounting. In summary, Nzeako and co are really helping the staff to save money before they are disengaged from service. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

AreaFada2: If you reflect your earnings and expenses properly with the receipts and invoices, you’d be fine. Some people do have experiences in this sort of thing. I think the smart ones will still engage professional accountants. 2 Likes 1 Share |

gbosaa: I still prefer taxation at source. Even if they pay them 20k and deduct all deductibles, better to know what you go home with. No risk of falling foul. And 9ja embassies that "didn't " pay money as at when due back then. I guess it won't be much different now. I once met an ambassador, incidentally also a renowned professor representing Nigeria in one of the top European countries over two decades back. It was in a private occasion. With two of his non-Nigerian staff. Oga ambassador was lamenting non-payment of salary for like 6 months o. He said some of his staff had to dedicate more time to their side hustle to survive. I was wondering why the non-Nigerians would endure such with a country that is not even theirs. One of them had worked there for like 25 years. E don tey wey 9ja dabaru. 2 Likes |

It simply means they are on their own and answerable for their deeds or misdeeds. In lay man's slang; OYO. They can be laid off any time without issues. Not a good sign. |

Guyman02:I agree with you. But yoruba too would have done same. They manage people and resources well and the result is there globally to show. If na hausa their steward sef without certificate go be full staff with huge benefit over university graduates and if you speak English to them they'd reply you in hausa and say...baa turanchi. On the number of locals working in the foreign embassies , I doubt if you've been to US embassy. Their permanent staff are over 60 and they are well paid. They also have contract staff. I know of an ibo girl who joined them in early 2000s as a fresh graduate. The last time I visited there she's still there. I wont be surprised tomorrow if Buhari upturns this idea to protect the interest of his hausafulani peeps attached to the embassy in the UK. |

blackslayer:a bigger shame on you!!!why do think the western countries are more developed even more than some oil producing african countries? They have a tax culture, virtually everything is taxed, and it's compulsory if you have ever travelled out, unlike here with many fat belly politicians and business men not paying tax so stop wanking on my mention and find out the real meaning of ignorance you used there |

The next level is just unfolding soon they will announce the message which is you will work on contract basis. That is to say your wage is based on how much you work. |

How are they self employed for goodness sake? Nigerian governments (from 1960) always looking for how to dehumanise Nigerians. Employees handling their tax commitments is better (maybe the embassy has not been remitting the appropriate amount of tax). The health insurance contribution should not be passed to the employees (as obtainable in Nigeria). I suspect the head of chancery wants to keep that part for herself. Because baba go slow is never up and doing. |
