Good day guys,

Please my bro wants to process inter departmental transfer by the end of the current session and he was told by someone he could lose admission if it didn't go through saying if the new department doesn't accept him, his admission would be forfeited.

How true is this?? And can you share more light on the inter departmental transfer thing...

Lose admission? I can't really say but something close to that. What I'll tell you is if you know nobody, like not even a little connection...just forget abt transfer especially if there is a wide gap btw the 2 courses involved.

You can go ahead with buying the transfer form. If your new department doesn't accept you, you will stay in your previous department. You will start the transfer of documents after you've been accepted in your new department. It's risk free.

Losing admission through this process is a myth. Impossible. If transfer doesn't work, you're to resume your former course with immediate effect except that department wan reach Senate. If it's within Engineering, he'll get it 100% even if he's on a 2.1, even 2.2 sef. I know UNIBEN terrain like witch. What dept to what dept?

He is changing from Mechatronics to Elect Elect which has always been his passion. He is currently on a first class too in case they want to consider grade.

Mechatronics is a new course. Who's the HOD? Ask him, he would either be from Production Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, the former likely because they own the lab. The HOD (or sometimes Dean) will sign out the student willing to transfer while the Dean will sign in new student coming in. This process is done by the exams and records department

Don't know transfer is that complex at Uniben.
Electrical enginering is a very competitive and loved course in the faculty of Engineering, Uniben. They receive more applications than available slots.

Transfer in engineering is easier if you know somebody. Not saying it is impossible to transfer without knowing somebody, but knowing somebody will save you guys alot of tension and uncertainty since we're talking about a non-refundable transfer fee of 50k here.

Things you should know:

1.. Since Uniben started their jupeb program, the available slots normally reserved for transfer students has drastically reduced, because they also need to accommodate successful jupebites into 200level, too. It will be logical to assume that incoming successful electrical jupebites will be given preference over enginering students looking to switch departments. Nevertheless, I believe they'll always be slots for transfer students but jupeb has a process that was almost 100% guaranteed years ago, now a little bit tougher.

2. To put the above into perspective, none of the people I knew -- and they were alot --- who bought transfer forms to electrical during our time were successful, except one guy who knew somebody that helped according to him.

3. Once you buy transfer form and your department approves, normally by HOD's signature, they SIGN YOU OUT. This means you're no longer a student of that department. Now, if the new department does not approve your tranfer request it means you're now stuck in a place Catholics refer to as "Purgatory". You're neither here or there.. You're departmentless..(grammar)

4. During our time, even though their transfer requests into electrical was not successful, guess what happened? They moved all of them to another department in engineering they didn't even choose. They were lucky that they saw thier names on the list -- Uniben pastes transfer list at exams and records -- when it came out and were told to contact thier Course adviser within a certain period of time to reverse it if they still wanted to remain in thier departments.

5. As weird and painful as this may sound, your brother's stellar academic record might become his bane, because it is not unheard of for Head of departments to refuse signing transfer forms of their best students. No depratment wants to loose thier best student, under any circumstance. However, I'm sure they won't try to keep him against his will at gun point, but I won't be surprised if they try to tactically talk him out of it. Or sabotage it( I've heard it happens, but maybe it's just beer parlour gist).

6. Since the only guy in my department who was successful( I also knew alot of people from other departments who weren't successful too) didn't particularly have a steller academic record, we can say class of degree at time of transfer is not that much a big deal( I think the only criteria is for the student not to be probating) . However, it is only logical to assume that as no depratment wants to lose thier best student, it is the same way every depratment will want to take in the best.

7. But as you know, parsing logic together with how Nigeria really works is like trying to marry oil and water. Will a first class student be considered over someone whose Uncle plays ludo with a certain lecturer?

This is a question only a non-refundable transfer fee of 50k( if it's still 50k) can answer. If the money is there, I feel it's a gamble worth taking depending on how bad the boy wants it.

Thanks for taking out time to logically provide answers, he badly wants it such we strongly might definitely proceed.

For clarity @ number 3, many folks have said one can't lose admission.... So if I may ask u what happens to the departmentless folks as you opined up there?? Then what happened to all the unsuccessful folks during your set? Lost admission, revert back to where they are coming from or moved to a new department.

Thanks, await your response.

Yes, I have never heard of a case someone lost admission.

After the unsuccessful folks were signed out from their departments and the new department still didn't accept them, it would be logical to assume they were deparmentless for a certain period of time behind the scenes, even though they weren't aware.

I'm guessing it was during this period of departmentless ness they were moved to another department they never chose -- Structural enginering -- to fix that.

When the list came out and they saw their names beside new departments they never chose, they contacted their course adviser requesting the move to be cancelled, so they remained in their department. Had they not contacted their course advisers within the stipulated period the instruction told them to, they would have been moved to structural engineering, permanently.

Reuploading issue is mostly for those who filled in Awaiting Result when registering for Jamb...but to be on a complete safer side, she can go re-upload, its just 500 or so.

He didn't meet one of the requirements of a DE student.
He should be thankful that the jamb worked out.

Yh admission is gradually ongoing and yeah there is second batch after the 1st.

I can't really pinpoint when it will end but one thing is sure, there is still ample of time for many more to be admitted as admission just started.
