As much as I agree the parents were irresponsible to allow this, I don't think the comments are pathetic. The comments don't support the parents. It criticises the approach of reprimanding the girl.

Lets agree she broke school rules. What does the school policy hand book propose? Pull her head, take a video and insult her like a criminal. No one is perfect these things will happen even to people you know personally so stop acting holier than the pope. The issue is with the approach of the school. I bet you, someone is being reprimanded right now. It's a school where people learn and are corrected in a civil way. This is not even civil.

Children of these days are so spoilt, courtesy of their parents. I could remember when I was younger, fresh out of sec school waiting for admission. I was privileged to be give a palasa Nokia torch light phone by one of my older siblings to be using.
That was how somehow one of my sisters caught me exchanging love messages with a boy. Omo what they did to me will forever be fresh in my mind. They almost didn't even allow me to go to school sef after gaining.. Saying they didn't trust me yet. And that incident gave me plenty of sense

Yes it is a school guided by rules and regulations. Does the regulations state that public shaming is the punishment for not dressing as prescribed in the school dress code?

Secondly, she looks like a teen this is a critical period in her developmental phase, I believe the school should have had a private talk with the mom and daughter, and let them understand that such is not acceptable.

While in the principle office she should be made to take it off and serve her punishment quietly.

Publicly humiliating her does nothing but exposes the school to law suits.

In most boarding houses, especially FG schools, teachers are empowered to take decisions of this nature. They do not even need to bring it to principal's notice. The guiding frameworks are already set. That is why there are inspection points before being checked-in to hostels.

So manhandling and humiliating her on video was the way to go about it? If you watch th video, the woman was saying "I told them to leave my daughter alone let me take her home". Meaning this mess would have been averted of she had been turned back at the gate but the staff wanted to humiliate the girl. Insisting she must be recorded on video is a violation of her rights and a case the school will not win if the woman decides to sue

1. Pray tell, how do you expect the security to correct her in private? Did you realise that in some boarding schools screening are done at the gate or far away from the hostel so that those non-compliant are not allowed into the school premises?

Very well said. I wanted to avoid the error of assumptions. The 40sec video is not sufficient evidence for me to judge the entire scene that played out.
I thought in a school with over 500 boarders and we still do security check before any child reports back to the hostel from home. These kids still find a way of reshaping their skirts and slim-fitting their trousers. Kids will at one time try to be wayward. It is who they are, who we were and who they will be. Our approach at addressing issues such as these goes a long way in instilling discipline or condemning and totally loosing them to their wayward life. I am neither supporting the mother nor the girl. They were both very wrong and deserved to be sent back home or given whatever disciplinary measure the school deemed fit. However, my point is that the girl was judged according to the laws of the school but it corrected. What is judgement without correction? It shouldn't have degenerated into a public scene with videos going on the internet. That is judgement without correction.
I am so sure the girl will not change but look for a safer Haven where she can do what she feels like. You can never judge her emotions from that video. From the look of things, the weight of the public condemnation might just make her and her.mum get determined not to stop or change their mindset. The security guys cut the tree of indicency but didn't address the root. The tree will still sprout.
I can blame the school management for not waging in and correcting the error, not just judging it.
Once again, no one knows the entire narrative of this story. It's hard to totally believe what you see on the internet these days until you see or hear the other half-truth. I just felt it will be fair to think otherwise.

I am not against sending them home. I am only against the show of shame and the resonating effect on the girl's psych sometime in the future.
