Why do Nigerians beg alot ? In all social media handles Nigerians like begging, if a celebrity should post anything and there are 2000 comments ,1700 of the comments would be of people pasting their account numbers. Why do Nigerians feel entitled to someone's money. Even nairaland is not left out, account numbers are almost everywhere on nairaland.
Some were even asking S.eun for giveaway like they are entitled to his money.
Why do some Nigerians feel like they are entitled to a rich/well to do person's money ?
it's poverty of the mind.

The average Nigerian is not content with what he/she has.

Also, the average Nigerian is in contant competition and always wants to lead the 'imaginary' pack and will result to begging, stealing, misappropriation of funds, shortchanging others to do so.

Some people because of the paragraph above also like to 'give' to show they are on top.

Most of the 'beggars' are using the funds to do stuffs you the begged cannot afford.

E. G. The OP that lamented that his married ex used the funds she from begged him for her husband's birthday.

And as luck would have it, said OP claimed he cannot use such funds to celebrate a birthday for himself or family?! grin

End of story

There is no single thread in this forum where you wouldn't see people begging. Is it that we have lost all shame in this country?

Do we realise some other nationalities read some posts here? How do you expect them to feel when they see all those begging posts? Very ridiculous

It is o. In Nigeria it’s very easy to spend your entire salary just settling people if you’re not careful. From your friends, to your colleagues to every gateman, security guard and staff of any establishment you patronize, even right down to random people you have no business with. The thing tire me sometimes.

But it’s understandable with the state of our economy and job market. Though some have just made it into a habit.

Its better to beg than to steal.

Funny enough, the Nigerian culture doesn't encourage hardwork and persistence. If our culture is the one that celebrates independence and self-reliance, prolly we'd not have the effrontery to engage in cyber-begging

Because our economy is a share the money economy, not a productive economy

As a result, most people don't have enough cash at hand.

Add the job scarcity thing , and you have the begging culture.

If it wasn't our culture before ....it is now.

Although very annoying, but the truth is people are really hungry and could not hold on to suffering and smiling any longer.... So they are letting it out.

Ignorance has turned it into a culture especially with the less privilege in the society. When we give birth to the number of children we can't take good care of,they are left to fend for themselves. These days we even have corporate beggers all suit up and properly dressed.

It is a very bad culture.

Those who beg compulsively are not so far from carrying guns and robbing you.
Because both a compulsive beggar and an armed robber have something in common: they both feel entitled to what others have.

The saddest part of the whole story is those single mothers whose status is nothing but a consequence of poor decision making, who come out here and use that to beg. They are no more than the electronic version of the beggars we see in Ibadan and other parts of Nigeria (especially those fake albinos from Niger republic) who use babies as their tools for begging. If life is that hard for you, simply put up your child for adoption and stop troubling people upandan.

Most of the nairalanders begging here on this site and on musicians and celebrity social media sites are Southerners.

North too has a begging culture. But the South isn't far behind
