Even this kind of positive thread to celebrate a person's legacy is degenerating into tribalistic fights. What is wrong with you guys?

I remember 'The Palm Wine Drinkard'. One of the chapters in the novel is "THE LADY MUST NOT BE BLAMED FOR FOLLOWING THE SKULL AS A COMPLETE GENTLEMAN" grin grin grin

If God says you will be great, you will be. Imagine having just 6 years of education and he did not see that as barrier yet he wrote books and got them published. He also was an associate at University of Iowa. Wow! smiley

Everything that is wrong with tribalists and those who are in the fetters of the "we-better-pass-them" syndrome.

Most of them have nothing to actually live for... They are largely jobless, penniless, and a bloody nuisance to people around them... Nairaland gives them a platform to act out their failed existences as humans!!!

Do well to pity them!!! No progressive, well paid, and fulfilled young person in this advanced age indulges in tribalism or bigotry!!! Fact!!!

...Amos became a servant for F.O.Monu, an Igbo man, who sent him to Salvation Army Primary School in lieu of wages... grin.

This happened as early as 1927. Yet some people will think Igbos are their problem.

I doubt this part of the story. Anyway, for now celebrate Amos Tutuola.

Very inspiring, most people today would use that as one of several excuses.

Shame on you for how you are ruining a thread like this. Big shame. Who cares if he is Igbo or Yoruba? If you are having difficulty focusing on his legacies, then you really should get a life so you can stop disgracing yourself in this manner.

I don't want to feed anyone's depravity. It was on this website that someone said Herbert Macaulay was invited by Nnamdi Azikiwe to join the NCNC! Such sacrilege.

I read one of his books, The Witch-herbalist of the Remote Town, in my teens. I remember wondering at the book's poor grammar, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Now that I know better, I realize the lesson here: our stories and folklore do not need to be grammatically correct - as long as the reader/listener understands the storyteller and enjoys the experience.

His novel tittle The palm wine drinkard and his dead palm wine tapster in the deads town is still the funniest I have read.

Happy birthday in death
Especially the part about that man that shaved the head of all the domestic animals in the village.

Same way Yoruba elites abroad fled the West to pursue economic prosperity in America and UK.

People migrate for different reasons. If not laziness, pray tell why a so-called economic refugee will be the one to train your children for you? Shameless bigot.

You posted a bigoted comment then turn round to accuse another of bigotry? Very stale trick.

So when Yoruba elites were traveling to Europe for education, your own people were fleeing to Yorubaland? Yet a tribe that looks up to the Yorubas lament daily that they are being envied?

The economic refugee had a requirement for service which was rendered by the lad. It was no philanthropy.

The young lad sought employment and was paid in tuition fees.

So you mean it is the laziness of the parents that many Igbos from the village are sent to the city to be trained by their townsmen?
