Remember the discussion we had here the other day about how the fraudulent and corrupt mindset of Nigerians ends up killing businesses that are supposed to create jobs and improve the economy.

---------------------------------
So I am doing a Strategy course and I want to tell a story about how Enviroments impact Strategy. When Uber came to Nigeria, they had a world class strategy. There was one flaw in their Strategy, it only worked "Ceteris Paribus" Unfortunately Nigerians are not normal.

So one of the strategies was to encourage New riders/Drivers to Sign up. Lets start with the riders. Whenever a new person signed up on Uber they gave a promo code. Typically this was between 1000, and 3000 naira. Sounds good right?

Nigerians, started multiple signups. So if I (hypotethical I please) wanted to go out, I would create a new account. Ride free. When I get there, I would create another and ride back. Also free.

Uber tried their best to mitigate this fraud, tried to limit it phone numbers. But like Oga Pantami said each one of us has 4 lines, even if you don’t. New sim 200. Free ride 2000. Net profit 1800. So they started locking phones to 3 acccounts per phone.

That was the riders o. Now to the drivers. First there was the signup bonus. Basically everytime you introduced someone to driving on Uber, Uber paid you 40,000 naira. I am not going to lie this was part of my motivation. I made money.

Tap your neighbour and say Nigerians. Oya sanitize your hand let’s continue.

So first and foremost there was the issue where people would sign up and not drive. When you get the money you share them. Uber now said no problem. They would only pay after 20 trips.

People would register, drive the Trips, collect the Bonus and Stop Driving. You also know In Nigeria we had the fleet Option, so I would hire a driver, register him and on every driver, make 40k. All in all stress for Uber.

Final Strategy for today, I am tired. Incentives. Part of the plan was to undercut local taxis, so in Abuja an Airport to Town trip was between 4-5k. Its been like that for years, Uber came and said we will carry this route for 3500.

So to encourage Drivers, Uber now said okay. Please go, if you go rider will pay you 3500, we will then give you a matching bonus of 3500 making the Trip 7000.

Beloved, eye hath not seen, ear hath not heard, neither had it entered the heart of Uber the kind of Fraud that happened next. Now you remember the earlier rider fraud? So a Driver, creates a new Rider = +2000 Requests himself to the airport, Cash trip, 3500 = -1500 paid =7000 Round Trip = 14000. An enterprising Fraudster can do 10 Roundtrips to the Airport in a day. That's 140,000. Without picking a single person. How much do you earn? Fink About it

Uber tried everything. Geofencing the Airport. Not allowing people request from the same spot, everything. They had to remove the incentives. Essentially what I am saying is Nigerians are special, factor that . Till another episode of 'Tales from Uber' Grace to you.

African Americans had a far worse experience than we do if you ask me

Even though collectively we were all screwed.

The calamities that still befall the south african blacks is also similar to the ones that befall the African Americans

Because the modus operandi of Apartheid was the same as the modus operandi of Jim Crow plus other traps set by the racist system
A typical African (I'm trying my best not to use foul words on this types of people) who dont understand the intricacies of these things just come in public and make uninformed statement about the plight of Africam Americans and Black south Africans....

As an Igbo man my self
I thank God that the federal government were not as smart or will I say crafty to implement jim crow/apartheid style laws against us the decades after the war.

Because If they had
Igbos will be competing with south African blacks on who is the most useless economically on the continent.
But like I said
Thank God they were just not that malevolent.

Any set of people that such law was applied on to them for decades back to back MUST struggle. It's a psychological problem that needs to be addressed

That said, I'm not saying that people dont break free from this cycle, what I'm saying is that these factors rigged the game of life against them

Gbam.

Sounds good. But the will power to see changes belongs to these youths. I had no one to help me whilst growing up . I lost my mum way back whilst at a young age again, after my nysc I lost my father no one came to my rescue Nigeria was not any better at that time. I just kept telling myself thier is light at the end of the tunnel. I had options to complain and says government is this, but since I crave for success and survival I kept on keeping on.

Their is a shift of energy of the current youths now. Some youth want fast money, some belive that once them land US or UK boom they are made. But they have forgotten that the race to success is not a 100meters dash it is to some a marathon.

I am ready to support any youth who has the attributes of patience and financial discipline as well as integelliece. So that the fruits of investment would yield great returns .Any youth with good business idea i am ready to support.

As for insults I do not take anyone who would insult me lightly, respect is reciprocal.

SirBen90:
I think the gross majority of people on this thread are highly intelligent, though some throw too many insults, which is immature and should be stopped.

I like the fact that we have capable persons here who genuinely want the progress of Nigeria and her youths, as opposed to heaping insults on them day and night.

It is therefore right that we should collectively assist the youth in any way we can, after we have criticised their untowardness.

Have you taken in a lost youth as your ward?

Have U helped a jobless graduate secure a good job?

Have you taken a youth as an apprentice to learn a skill?

Have you told a youth not to be too eager to get rich quickly?

Have you taught a youth about the dangers of cultism and prostitution?

I think we should adopt a "hands on approach" in creating the "Nigeria of our dreams".

Some say that, the true mark of a billionaire, is his ability to create other millionaires. The same should go for a successful person. As a successful person or an office holder, or an experienced businessman, or a politician, how many persons have you helped to start their own journey to success? how many have you assisted with seed capital to start their own business? how many have you wiped the the tears from their face?

In 20years from now, how many people can beat their chest and say "if not for this man suffer for don kill me". How many will attribute their success to your handiwork? Or do you want a situation whereby 20 years form now, we will still be complaining about the decadence of the Nigerian society?

Good Evening.

Everything discussed here is how we can invest our money with less stress. You don't expect us to keep talking tbills when it's now insane to invest in the current mockery rate.

click on each of the book, you should be able to download it that way.

Alternatively, you can install Anybooks from Playstore. Almost all the top books are available on it. You just search and add to your library. You continue from your last read point whenever you feel like reading. Not free though.

Great thread with great minds. ..... Just to add. I hope we do calculate our Networth from time to time (like quarterly if you can) to keep a birds eye view of where you are on your investing journey and to help track progress.

It helps you to identify your idle funds, blood clots (non performing investments), where their are opportunities and sharpen your cutting edge

Whatsoever it shows you....... please ensure you keep one third of your wealth in your own hands (1/3).... COVID-19 is still recking investors

Convert your Networth too to US Dollars to see how you meet up in the international scene of investors globally and draw inspiration from there to never look back again

Problem 1

There's so much cash flowing in the country and most of these are not being put to productive use because many of the ingredients needed for businesses to thrive are lacking, power especially.

Problem 2

Treasury bills was being used to mop up excess liquidity or cash in the system...hence the initial attractive rates... however, this created or creates two problems....

With a corrupt government, most of the funds realized from treasury bills sales end up being looted and funnelled again into treasury bills, instead of being use to provide real infrastructure.

Second problem it created or creates is that high interest on treasury bills kills the spirit of productivity and ingenuity and commerce and all those positives that lead to more thriving businesses....

Everybody would rather sit back, throw their money to the government to earn interest and do nothing, expecting the government to use the funds wisely to create infrastructure... Unfortunately, most of it is looted and returned to treasury bills or other financial instruments.

Solution 1

Treasury bills rates needs to/have been crashed to discourage Nigerians from putting their money there... This is to force us or indirectly encourage everyone to invest in the real sector or watch inflation wipe away the value of your idle cash.

Everyone seems to be turning to other repackaged government financial investments but it seems we will only end up making the same mistakes made with treasury bills, especially if we still have hawks in government waiting to loot any funds realized by selling such investments to Nigerians.

Appeal

Please, those who are more experienced in the area of commerce and real sector investments should promote their ideas and take in willing candidates and mentor them

There are millionaires and even billionaires in this this group... Let us come together and set up businesses... If we can pull resources together, there are profitable businesses that we can go.

Examples

1. Nothing stops us from pulling resources together, buying or renting a large expanse of land and setting up cattle ranches in areas in the West, South or East. This solves the incessant farmer herders clashes.

2. How about pulling resources together and setting up a factory to mill palm kernel oil? This is a very profitable business if setup and managed well, and I know a place where this will be very profitable but limited by lack of funding and technical know-how which someone or some persons in this thread may have.

This country is ours and we will either build it or destroy it unknowingly by our actions and inactions
