We are not talking about Regents who are even lesser than local councillors, we are talking of the highest royal stools in yorubaland Ooni, Alaafin, Awujale and Alake, etc. Why are yorubas discriminating against their females from attaining those revered traditional positions.

yoruba jibiti and their half-baked arguments as always.

Supreme court cannot just scrap Sharia law. Cases are handled on individual basis.

Anybody wrongfully sentenced to death by Sharia law can take the case to the SC and that judgement will definitely be overturned.

Why can't the Supreme Court do something about the Sharia law being practiced in some Northern states?

Inheritance is a delicate issue that must be handled with care.

Imagine an Hausa girl inherited vast wealth and land in Sokoto. She eventually married a Yoruba guy. Do you think, the Hausas will welcome the guy to take away everything the Sokoto girl had inherited.

Inheritance is a delicate issue. It's as delicate as Kingship. All aspects as regards it must be considered diligently

A father will suffer with her daughters (especially a man with only female children) perhaps the daughters endure so many things before their father become rich but after his death some Uncles who know nothing about what their brother went through with his family will now come and say they want to inherit what they didn't work for.

That's indeed a very cruel culture that should outrightly be dumped.
It is wrong and archaic, there shouldn't be any justification for discrimination against the girl child

Is it only ancestral lands woman can't inherit or everything?

If Mazi Okoli built a plaza at Alaba, can his daughter inherit? Or a land in the city? Or cars or personal effects?

I know someone who is also a victim of this.

He and his brother were kids at the time of passing of their dad so their uncles took everything away from them. They are grown now and hope to fight them in court.

I wish we had voice note I have much to day in this topic, but then alot of feminist and people that dont know shiut about igbo culture will comment....well the igbo woman gets more than the male gets in the actual sense. How?
ok there is something we call "idu ulo' this are done for women who are about to be married and the gifts from.the parents are unlimited I.e she can get loads as much according to her parents pocket...plus if the father also will properties to her she can still inherit. she would get married to another man, and still inherit ......Now I'm not comparing but read this very well and mention me if you have any issues with regards this topic and most people talk blindly and just vent on topics they know nothing of. I am igbo so if you are a feminist, non igbo please stop speaking and do researches before talking. best regard kelechi.

yoruba were rejoicing because they want a leeway to steal Igbo men properties by marrying Igbo daughters and insulting Igbo customs, a custom that even settles Igbo daughters with properties upon marriage. Kolewerk!

Let the same yoruba SC judge Bode Rhodes-Vivour also make a judgment that women in yorubaland have the right to be Oba of Lagos, Ooni of Ife and Alaafin of Oyua.

If he won't do it, I'm sure an Igbo judge or Hausa judge will be glad to do so, since both men and women are now culturally equal in law.

Oga, once an inheritance has been passed to the beneficiary, whatever happens to the inheritance is no problem of anyone. What if the sokoto girl decides to sell it to an urhobo man? Does that invalidate her right to her inheritance? This is 21st century. Yorubas are by far, the most liberal and civilized tribe in Nigeria.

Goke7:

why do you guys always like to consider the log in other people's eyes and not focus on the beam in your own eyes, the issue is about the female inheritance, how does that concern the Yoruba traditional stool? are we even talking about Yoruba female inheritance here which is not even an issue in Yoruba land

I think you guys are easily always up in arms when questions are asked about your culture and social activities as you hate people talking about them but you folks like to be good busy bodies in other people's culture. You want others to tolerate you but can't simply tolerate, how self centered and hypocritical you guys. The spotlight is on your culture as you normally throw the spotlight on others too

You are a yoruba champion of 'female emancipation' in Igboland, pointing crooked ewedu-stained fingers on another custom.

So we ask you, are yoruba women not in need of the same 'emancipation' that you pose to administer in other regions? Why have you marginalized your yoruba women from attaining the highest cultural stools in yorubaland?

Are you cursed with hypocrisy?

The daughters are not comfortable with it. Was it not an igbo daughter that took the case to court? If she was comfortable, why did she take the case to court?

an ibo woman sued and took it up to supreme court.

that was how the judgement was gotten.

you can take it on their behalf.

This sharia/supreme court won't stop poke nosing in igbo traditional matters, first it was removing a democratically elected governor in IMO state n now they have moved into changing igbos culture let me wait and see if they will go to Rome n force the Pope to ordain women as priests or bishops...

I have heard you. It is noted. If and when they start filing the cases, we will then know what to do.
The way you guys justify injustice in the name of archaic culture/tradition is the same way Islamic extremist justifies their callous act using sharia.
While Islamic terrorist are a slave to their stone age Sharia, you and your ilks are in shackles of your repugnant discriminatory culture/tradition.

Funny enough you folks will be the first to call out the north on Sharia, but you turn a blind eye and even justify your own discriminatory culture (Osu caste system, subjugation of women etc).
Laws, Cultures, traditions are made for men and not the reverse.
