Does it need to be bigger? I'm sure the one made for the car works well enough.

That might be your problem.

Good morning elders of Nairaland. Pls I need help urgently. I have a 2009 Toyota Highlander, from time to time, when it’s parked, the panic alarm will trigger on its own. At first, I’ll press the “unlock” and “lock” button on the key before it will stop. Subsequently, the panic alarm has now become more frequent and embarrassing, to say the least. At home or even at public places, it blows. I took it to a car key specialist, the specialist told me that he will recalibrate(whatever that means)the key. He did and charged me 15k. On gettin home, the issue persisted. I called him and told him, he asked me to bring the car back with the two remote keys. I went back with both keys and the car, he checked and checked and even used a special scan device to scan the car. He then told me that unfortunately, there’s nothin he could do. But that he can refer me to another person who is “guaranteed” to fix this problem but that it will cost me N40k. Pls elders, I beg for help urgently as this alarm is becoming unbearable and embarrassing to me and my household. The estate I live in have warned me cos of the noise especially in the nights. HELP PLEASE MY BRETHEREN!!! Thanks in advance.

Hi. Same thing happened on my 2010 Camry XLE.

It was really embarrassing. Alarm went off at random times while I was in bed. I took it to a guy and only gave him about 1,000.

This could help you fix the issue, I'm not certain. He only corrected something around the latch and since that time, everything has been perfect. He corrected something that got stuck. That thing stays up after you close your hood when it should go down. It stays up like your hood is opened. Reason why the alarm system gets triggered.

Thanks my brother. I appreciate this your response. Pls if it’s okay with you, can I call you on phone or chat on WhatsApp, pls? If you don’t mind, I’ll also like to know where your mechanic’s(the guy you gave the N1000) location too. Thanks in anticipation.

Thank you for the response Sir. As a matter of fact, there was no accident and the doors appear to have locked properly according to the dashboard. And I’ve taken it to an electrician and the electrician referred me to a car door specialist. The specialist was the one who collected some money from me and still couldn’t fix the problem.

Next time, open your own thread for queries, you will get answers faster. Meanwhile the issue most times in that Highlander is around the hood latch switch. It just goes bonkers after a while. Replace the switch and you should be fine. It can be temporarily bypassed in the interim.

Just disconnect the wire that sends power to the boot cheesy, Though that means you will have to always lock it & unlock it manually
