E DEY SHOCK YOU?

You locked people down for three months without any palliatives and made them go hungry even as they heard how governments of other countries put in place measures to mitigate the effect of the lockdown. They kept silent.

You closed borders about a year ago claiming sufficiency in food production locally. The people watched as rice raced beyond the reach of the common man, beans dragged price with gold and Garri became a rich man's food. They stomached this hunger and wish succour would come, but no, VAT was increased on consumables thereby increasing prices of food commodities.

You grinned as the people groan, they were not happy with you as you implement your anti-people policies. They waited and cry as they hear billions spent on SCHOOL-FEEDING DURING SCHOOL CLOSURE, they stomached it and waited patiently.

You thought the best gift after lockdown and it's attendant economic effects on the people is to increase FUEL PRICE and ELECTRICITY TARIFFS. The people made attempts to register their displeasure but NO, you shouted them down unleashing your agents to rein them in, yes they did and the people went home and yet waited.

Now they saw an opportunity in #ENDSARS, they came in large numbers, you tried but failed to scatter them.

They saw how jittery you are and knew that you are not as hard as you look, they exerted more blows and you are shouting what more do they want?

This fight is beyond #ENDSARS it is a call for justice and a LOUD EXPRESSION of our displeasure with the cluelessness you give us as governance.

If you succeed in dispersing the protesters now, you have only postponed the inevitable for another DAY.

NIGERIA NEEDS TO BE REFORMED, NOT SOON BUT THIS SOON

very commendable...it has alway been my dream ....(youth awaken ) since we dont have opposition or never had one but politicians swapping parties any how to their personal gains......now all leader will think twice....u can just increase fuel,Vat , tax electricty on people coming out of knockdown
That was what IMF ask them to do, Buhari and his voodoo economic team were just rolling out the dictate of foreign leaders. Buhari and Amaechi go globe throttle cap in hand to borrow and accept whatever terms given, from secession of territory to all manner of reforms without settling down to review them. Because they know half of the borrowed sum will be stolen by them.
We ain't seen anything yet, wait until China and international lenders come to scramble for whatever is left for this country in 20 - 30yrs from now.
The youth is already down, hence fear no fall.
Their today has been stolen and the future mortgaged. With the perfomance of this government in their first tenure I was ashamed Nigerians brought them back to continue the miserable life.
Buhari is synonymous with bad luck, mean and bigotry yet Tinubu brought him out, wear him suit and repackage him as saint for his own selfish interests.

This is from a friend, 65 years old and an alumni of UNILAG. Quite interesting.

The following is my reaction to a post my son made on our family platform about the ongoing protests. You may find it interesting:

Yes, the protests are largely peaceful, with a few miscreants. But I assure you that the few miscreants are testing grounds. There are more miscreants waiting in the wing. I know cause I've been there before!

Contrary to the narratives in circulation, my generation didn't just sit down. Forget about the politicians who want to "off the mic". Many of us didn't "gbenu dake". We "soro-soked" - loud and clear, often putting our lives on the line!

We fought all the military regimes. I can't remember how many times I was "tear gassed". We carried our own "anti tear gas" solutions around. There was a time military police stormed UNILAG by air (Helicopter landed at sports centre); by sea (Police boats arrived via the Lagoon); and by land (UNILAG's front gate). The back gate wasn't there yet; it was just a narrow bush path that served as the only route of escape for those at the front line who knew the route. Others were trapped and there were stories of rape, looting, and students being thrown down from second and third floors of Jaja and Mariere halls. We had no phone cameras so we have no proof. As is always the case, we usually started out peacefully but eventually miscreants got involved. We didn't have social media hence the protests couldn't spread as fast, but it was replicated in all the universities.

There's an Akintunde Ojo hall in UNILAG - named after a student that was killed in one of the protests. Ask anyone who is 60+ about "Ali must Go". Ask about "No Eddie, no lecture riot", etc. I remember telling you about the day I was embarrassed when my father came to get me off the "battle ground" at the UNILAG gate. Those protests were usually the precursors to the demise of governments in power.

In June 1993 when Babangida annulled the election, youths took to the streets, forcing Babangida to step down and scamper out of Lagos to Abuja. They all "soro-soked"

When the brutal Abacha took over he was fought till the end. Many people were killed during the period. I have my personal story, but this is not about me. Even MKO Abiola, who was considered as being initially part of the corrupt system laid down his life to fight off the Abacha military regime. The arrow head of the fight against Abacha was National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), with several actors playing different parts. These individuals included Pa Adekunle Ajasin, Pa Adesanya, Anthony Enaharo, Wole Soyinka, Commodore Ebutu Ukiwe, Balarabe Musa, Group Captain Jonah David Jang, Rear Admiral Godwin Ndubuisi Kanu, Shafi Lawal Edu, Ayo Opadokun, and Colonel Yohanna Madaki. Even Senator Bola Tinubu was also very active in the struggle.

Today, everyone talks about Fela. But there were several others. There was Gani, the people's SAM (Senior Advocate of the Masses); there was Olisa Agbakoba; there was Beko, etc. Before them, there was Professor Awojobi, there was Tai Solarin, and of course Wole Soyinka was (is) ever present. Go and read Wole Soyinka's "The Man Died". Search for "The Beginning of the End" penned by Tai Solarin. These people were arrested, tortured, and jailed countless times because they led protests. Of course, they didn't act alone. There's a statue of Tai Solarin in Yaba bus stop, one of Awojobi in Onike roundabout, Gani's in Ojota, Herbert Macaulay's in Sabo, and many more.

There were still others before these names. Our founding fathers fought the British the best way they could. Do you think the British left Nigeria willingly? Do your research about Pa Imodu (No 1). Do your research about Olufunmilayo Ransom Kuti. Read up on Herbert Macaulay. Of course there was Awolowo, Azikwe, Ahmadu Bello, Enahoro, etc. Before them there was King Jaja of Opobo, and a host of others who were exiled or died fighting the superior military power of the British.

In every generation you'll have the good, the bad, and the ugly. Stop the blanket accusation of generations before yours. They've played their parts. Study their histories and find out why the "bad guys" eventually end up controlling the political system despite the heroic exploits of the good guys.

Focus on the war - not the battle!

"The moment of victory is often the moment of greatest peril. In the heat of victory, arrogance and overconfidence can push you past the goal you had aimed for, and by going too far, you make more enemies than you defeat. Don't underestimate the intellect of our youth, the protest is far from being over.
It is the political class that has refused to change their tactics. Video footage have clearly shown how the political class infiltrated and hijacked the peaceful protest via the state sponsored thugs to cause mayhem.

And for the above quotes, who determine the 'mark' in this case? Obviously not you and I.
But I can't completely say it is wrong, even a dead clock is right twice a day.
Majority of those that conceived the NADECO protest have selfish motives.
Major Almustapha was quoted saying they wanted oil block allocation when they were given audience but Abacha refused. Today most of them still alive are the ones rulling so what have they done differently?

We saw videos footage of when thugs alighted from BRT (state govt affiliated mass transit), govt officials Prado jeep and police escort dropping and picking hoodlums brandishing dangerous weapons - with police patrol van in Abuja.
These are still the same old tricks employed by the political class to hijack the peaceful protest simply to call dog a bad name.
I make bold to say that youth will do a better job than what we currently have. As it is today, this country is a failed state

The thugs have taken over, why won't they.

Why are there so many brainless people in one country in the first place ready to kill for 500 naira.

This protest can be won if the educated people behind it restrategise.

If you are middle class and concerned about road blocks etc, more than good governance, check the videos of the thugs online, you will know you were never secure in the first place, these poor people / thugs are waiting for an opportunity to pounce on you.

The sharks understand this.

Typically Nigerian, we usually pick the worst of us to lead the best of us.
Out of the arrays of brilliant minds we have, you have chosen to pitch your tent with those tutored by Buhari and Tinubu.
Just last week you were elated with what Shola Akinlade and Ezra Olubi of paystack achieved, several abounds with similar feat, check out the endless list of gifted minds; Anesi Ikhianosime, Ayodele Obasegun, Ayokunle Adenira, Deborah Thorpe, Esther Okade, Onyeka Akuma, John Boyega etc
These guys will reshape Nigeria if given i/4 of what the old brigade had

The hoodlums are the ones setting the police station on fire and not the protester. Govt knows how to deal with them if they want to. Let baba politician stop sponsoring the hoodlums and see if those miscreants will not be put in their place.

The sharks

Poor people
Keep them extremely poor and brainless, they'll be useful for anarchy and will never know their rights

Middle class , keep them comfortable enough to ignore the injustices in the system, also give them hope that they'll get to become shark's.

Who will fix this, yea , educated middle class , if not it will eventually implode one way or the other.

Who told you that the protesters released the prisoners?

Why so much hate on the youngsters when the people who ruined the country and continues to do so are the old men and women?

Please, leave the youths alone, they are only asking for a better future.Perhaps,if old people like you did the right thing, they wouldn't be on the streets.
