“This week, physicians from the Millennium Health Group and the Central Maryland Vaccine Equity Initiative were involved in educating parents and children at Woodlawn High School in Baltimore, Maryland on the importance of vaccinations.”

Dr. Njideka Udochi plans to use the $65,000 award to help increase access and engagement of children and families of BIPOC to vaccinations across the country. This decision comes in the wake of the CDC’s approval of the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine for children aged 12-15 years.

Romance / How To Prevent Thoughts That Can Destroy Your Relationship by VirtueDigest: 11:49am On Apr 01, 2021
Along communication problems, negative insecure thoughts are also the root of what breaks relationships. In the words of Nicole Issa, “Negative thoughts can be the ultimate relationship killer.” So, while it is crucial for both partners to listen to each other and to reflect on themselves, they also need to be open about any underlying thoughts they may be keeping to themselves

Although most issues need time to be resolved, the first step is to be aware of the way you think about your partner. Here are some thoughts to ignore in order to prevent a broken relationship.

They don’t love me any more

It is reasonable to worry when your significant other begins to invest less time into your relationship. But, constantly asking for confirmation of their feelings can cause conflict. If you are always asking, “Do you really love?” your partner may start to wonder if there is cause for concern. Instead, communicate the feelings you have and work together to become closer.

They should…

It is toxic to believe your significant other should automatically know what you are thinking. No one has the power to read minds. It won’t be fair to your partner when you haven’t discussed these feelings. So, try to communicate your frustrations.

It is their fault

It is easy to point fingers and blame the other person when you are upset. Thinking it is his/her fault for the mess will only worsen your relationship. Instead try to take responsibility for the situation and if you find out your partner is upset as well, make an apology. Remember, you can control how you react to negative situations.

Career / How To Increase Your Ability To Influence People by VirtueDigest: 9:36am On Mar 29, 2021
For you to influence people, you have to frame your words in terms that will motivate them. Influence is the ability to affect the character, development or behaviour of someone, and it requires you to develop a strong emotional connection with yourself and others.

George Hallenback says, “Without the capacity to influence others, your ability to make what you envision a reality remains elusive because after all, no one can do it alone.” Therefore, to master the art of influencing others, you need to tap into the emotions that drive people’s actions.

Instead of commanding people, you need to inspire, persuade, and encourage them. Influence can be related to leadership because behind every great leader is an army of followers acting in support of their mission and cause. So, here are the five basic ways to increase your ability to influence people.

Respect other people’s opinion

Respecting people’s opinion signifies that their voice has been heard, and for you to achieve this, you really do not have to argue with them. According to Dale Carnegie, “It is impossible to win an argument. If we lose the argument, we lose; if we win the argument, we have made the other person feel inferior, hurt his pride, and made him resent us. In other words, we still lose.”

Admit that you are wrong

You need to learn and understand the art of admitting your mistake. This enables the other person to trust you. With this, it grows the relationship in which you have created.

Family / How To Raise A Non-violent Child by VirtueDigest: 4:03pm On Mar 27, 2021
Children are bound to encounter many hurtful and stressful situations no matter how loving their parents nurture them. With this, it is difficult to look around and not become disheartened, if not fearful due to the situations around the world.

Violence are too common and little has been done to address the “why” of the problem. Most times, people tend to throw blames to the wrong things for such acts, but no one seems to understand the root of the problem. However, the root of this violence can be linked to early childhood.

Children are involved in bullying, fighting, crime and even murder. Why do children commit violence? The reasons are complex, but today, we’d explain two basic reasons why children become violent according to a Developmental Psychologist, Aletha Solter. The reasons are :

Children who hurt others are usually children who have been hurt through abuse and neglect.

Repressed Emotions. Children should be allowed to cry and to have empathetic person who can listen and soothe them when they are upset. These feelings should be allowed to surface else, it explodes in form of violence.

Also, childhood violence are linked to different contents displayed through the media. Violent T.V shows, movies, video games, cartoons, plastic guns, sports (such as wrestling or boxing) are said to corrupt children’s brain. However, psychologists do not believe that such contents can cause violent behaviour. They agree that parent must look after their children to understand the reasons they become violent.

Romance / How To Overcome Insecurity In A Relationship by VirtueDigest: 12:31pm On Mar 25, 2021
It is important to know that not everyday is the same. We don’t always feel good, we don’t always feel confident and we don’t always know what is going to happen next. Relationships, for example, are always full of uncertainties because we get nervous and we keep asking questions like; Does he want to commit to me? Does he still like me? Should I just quit this relationship?

All these questions can affect you personally and without realising, you can feel insecure in your relationship. We all have insecurities whether finances, materials, physical or others, but managing them is a key component for a happy, healthy and successful relationship. To overcome insecurity in your relationship, here are few tips to follow.

Don’t judge your current relationship based on past relationship

Just because your past girlfriend/ boyfriend cheated on you doesn’t mean the current one will cheat on you. You really do not have to make the current pay for the deeds of the past, and the beautiful thing about relationships is that you get to start afresh.

Don’t confuse imagination with reality

It is normal to imagine some situations in the relationship, but you should not expect that everything will become reality. The best way to resolve this is to encourage open and honest conversations from the beginning when things are good. Don’t let your mind trick you.

Once you ask, don’t keep asking

You don’t have to keep pestering your partner over the same question. This can become tiring for your partner. Once you ask twice, it’s okay to trust the answer.

Family / How Women Can Ditch The Guilt by VirtueDigest: 11:14am On Mar 17, 2021
Working women, who try to navigate their career and family find it difficult to deal with guilt at home despite their effort to making sure that they parent their kids perfectly. Women guilt is a nagging sense of inadequacy and constant fear of failure due to the pressure placed on themselves to parent perfectly. According to a study conducted in 2020 by Pew Research Centre, “77% of adults believe that women face a lot of pressure to be “involved.” Being involved sounds like the unspoken belief that women should singlehandedly be all things to all people at all times except for themselves.”

This may seem exhausting due to the gender-role expectations. Some reasons for such guilt are;

When they shout at their children or lose temper due to their work or other reasons.
