Good to read your post! I'm sorry... I didn't see this post before now I don't know how I missed it.
OK... I get it. I wish you the BEST in your university studies in UNIMAID. A guy from the Western part of Nigeria who also lives in Lagos read Accountancy and finished from UNIMAID recently with a good grade and was featured in Saturday Punch. So I believe that security-wise Maiduguri is quite OK and all will be fine with you... till you get into the Armed Forces as you've wished.
My mother's sister and her son [who is my cousin] were in the Medical Corp of the Nigerian Army. My aunt retired as a Major and her son was to be promoted from a Captain to Major when he passed on around 2005 from a brief illlness despite the fact that he survived ECOMOG in Liberia and was on tour in Bakassi and other fighting/peacekeeping spots.
I love the Armed Forces so much because of the discipline.
2] About your phone, just make sure you install free Android phone tracking devices on your phone so that you can use Google Maps to trace the location of the missing phone or you contact the police and the service provider who can use the IMEI Number to track it.
You can check YouTube for more information on how to install these devises in case of NEXT TIME.
You can go for Itel A22 [which is a 4GLTE] and costs about N25,000-N26,000.
Read More here: https://punchng.com/airtel-offers-double-data-on-infinix-tecno-itel-phones/ Sep 11, 2018 - Airtel offers 'Double Data' on Infinix, Tecno, itel phones.
3] For a laptop, you can get to the Website of "Locate My Laptop.com" for information on how to track your missing laptop as well and make sure you have it passworded. I use THESE same tactics and strategies to protect my mobile devices from theft.
4] 2.) Another prominent example is Sani Abacha, a Kanuri from Borno. He was born in Kano and many people actually think he is from Kano, His son Muhammad Abacha even contested for Governor of Kano state in 2011, they are actually from Borno. That is why whenever I come across a person from Northeast and he tells me he is Hausa, I will tell him to go and ask his parent's his root. Yes, Ibrahim Shekarau is Bura, Ndume is Gwoza.
Yes, Abacha family comes from Borno. I know of several BORNO families claiming Kano!
All the best!
Maiduguri is quite secured, the Armed forces are doing a good job. Meanwhile I have been going to INEC's office for two weeks now only to be told my PVC is not available, meanwhile the INEC website is showing that it is ready. And I want to vote this weekend. 1 Like |

About your lost phone, you may wish to contact the Nigerian Police "Intelligence Response Team" IRT under Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari's watch in Abuja, they can help you track it down if it was STOLEN.
The IRT unit was used to help a Senior Journalist with The Guardian newspaper to trace his lost phone in Lagos. Many kidnappers and fraudsters have also been tracked and arrested using advanced technology by the Nigerian Police.
Thanks Xslaze3xd for confirming authoritatively the former Governor of Kano, Ibrahim Shekarau's ancestry to Bura at last, and Sen. Ali Ndume's Gwoza links too. This is why I've been using Nairaland since 2005 because there are REAL people here... regardless of the trolling by some faceless people.
I read in a 2004 copy of the SUN newspaper that General Murtala Ramat Mohammed's father is from the Berom ethnic group in Jos South,of Plateau State, and he migrated to Kano when he became a muslim which was then a taboo among his Berom people. It was in Kano that he got married and Murtala was born. It was one of Murtala Mohammed's paternal uncles that granted that exclusive interview indicating that they are from Jos South in Plateau State. I still have that article in my archives.
The Tanko Yakasai family in Kano too are originally Jukun from Taraba State. A lot of people who are politically prominent in Kano are not even originally Hausa people from Kano from what we can deduce now. Though I'm originally of Southern ancestry, my time in the North [Kano] was a blessing as it further enabled me to appreciate Northerners and Nigerians better.
Xslaze3xd It seems like you are in a military institution? I wish you the BEST in your defence of the nation!
I'm following you already.

Good morning Sir, I saw your mentions last night but I was too tired to reply, 1.) The phone was not actually stolen, On that fateful morning, I was comimg back from a remote village located deep in the Hills of Hawul, the road was very rough and coupled with the fact that I was carrying much load, It was when I got to town that I realised the phone fell from my pocket, the phone was off because I forgot to charge it the night before, and during the course of the journey, I entered two Keke Napep, so I could not pin point which one it fell in or where I lost it, so I moved on. I have started saving up little funds and I hope to get a low budget smart phone by the end of Febuary. Thanks very much for your concern, it is very nice of you sir. 2.) Another prominent example is Sani Abacha, a Kanuri from Borno. 3.) No, I am not in a military institution although I applied the Nigerian Defence Academy on 3 occasions, I was unsuccessful. I am currently studying in Maiduguri but the military is my first love, It is a passion and I pray for the day I will join the Armed Forces. I will be heading to Barasal Village today, it is close to Buratai. A village with beautiful hills. Nature is awesome. 1 Like |

^^^^^^ ^^^^^^ I'm an expert on Nigerian Civil War history and have a deep knowledge of pre/post Civil War history.
Those rebel currencies had NO value because they were REJECTED by the International community and could not be used as legal tenders during the Civil War.
Infact Ojukwu ordered that Nigerian Pounds should be submitted by all returnee Ibos and non-Ibos in the former Eastern Region because they had more value than the hurriedly created rebel enclave currency notes... which could ONLY be used in the Rebel enclave and eventually became valueless like toilet paper shortly before the Oso Agha (Civil War) ended.
It may shock you that more than 1 year after Secession it was Nigerian Pounds that Colonel Ojukwu and his team were using to buy weapons in the international arms black market.
Then the big BANG. On the advice of the British, Nigeria changed her currency notes in 1968, and then all the old Nigerian Pounds the rebels had collected from returnees to the breakaway Eastern region of Nigeria, including those in the treasury and those looted from the Central Banks branches, became useless because they couldn't buy things in the international market again and that was one of the main reasons the Civil War ended when it did thereby reducing the loss of more lives! The Civil War should even have ended in early 1969 but Federal Forces had to be less aggressive to avoid civilian casualties.
So, the Rebel currency notes were WORTHLESS in the international community because they knew the supposed "country" was illegally created without the support of the TRUE leadership of the minority ethnic groups such as the leaders of the COR Movement (Calabar, Ogoja, Rivers) such as Ken Saro Wiwa, Chief Harold Dappa - Biriye from Bonny Island and who is seen as the father of the Ijaw nation... and many more who accused Ibos of forcing them into a breakaway enclave. So they stayed with Nigeria and these ethnic minorities provided troops and fighters for the Nigerian Armed Forces... Such as Colonel Etuk, Isaac Jasper Adaka - Boro from Ijaw and Captain Elechi Amadi, the former President-General of Ogbakor Ikwere who fought in the 3rd Marine Commando of the Nigerian Army during the Civil War.
The United Nations also did not recognize the Secession so the rebel leadership had to use Nigerian Pounds right into 1968 to stay afloat.
I have since 1981 read books written by Officers who were active on both sides during the Civil War so I have vast knowledge in this area from OBJ, to Alexander Madiebo, to Hilary Njoku, Alabi-Isama and more!
Please read more as it enables you to be savvy, wise, and avoid mistakes of the past.
Cheers!

@xslaze3xd
Thanks for the great feedback!
I have learned some more information about the Bura people today. Nigeria is a historically rich and blessed country.
I attended an FGC in the North decades ago and I was very fortunate to have met great friends from almost all parts of Nigeria at the Federal Government College. I even knew some Mshelias in Kano. I was based in Lagos then while schooling up North.
Some of them were from Old Borno State. You guys have very brilliant people in Borno/ Southern Borno. I had to even start searching for some of my old school friends on Facebook from Southern Borno, Plateau, Kaduna, Adamawa etc. One of them is Alh Waziri Ibrahim's son from Borno and the GNPP 2nd Republic Presidential candidate in the 2nd Republic, was my school mate and I had another school friend from Borno named Samuel Jiri, very brilliant guys!
I noticed back then on Facebook that there is a movement for the creation of Savanna State in Southern Borno... Is the movement still on for the new state creation?
I guess Senator Ali Ndume who is from Southern Borno is a Bura as well? I like him because as a former lecturer, he is very brilliant and also a very good communicator with a good sense of humor.
I was reading a book years ago that General Yakubu Gowon's ethnic group (Angas) migrated from Borno axis.
Someone on Nairaland posted last year that former Kano State Governor Shekarau's Parentage is of Bura origin.
Thanks again for this great information you have share with me and I'll keep in touch if I have more questions to ask on Borno history and traditions.
PS: Bura ethnic group can be found in both Borno and Adamawa States from the pictures I've attached below.
Wow, PRO UNITATE I also attended FGC down south, I actually grew up in the South South Region, The Bura people are also in Yobe state, Bura are very intelligent people, the more reason why the Kanuris don't want us to either break away nor become Governor of the state, We run the important structures of the state. Former Governor of Kano, Ibrahim Shekarau is also Bura, his father migrated to Kano before Shekarau was born. Ali Ndume is from Gwoza ethnic group in Gwoza LGA, also part of Southern Borno. I even went to Buratai today, spent the whole day there, Since ASUU went on strike, I have been touring Borno South, I would have posted the pictures of my tour here on Nairaland, unfortunately I lost my smartphone while coming back from a one week tour of Hawul LGA in Yimirshika town in the first week of January, I'm using a Nokia Asha to surf the net and stay in touch for the moment. I'm touring Biu LGA currently. Nice Chatting With You. 1 Like |

^^^^ So Gen. Buratai is not a Kanuri ?
Are you from Southern Borno too?
A lot of people mistakenly think everyone in the Far North is a Hausa, Kanuri or Fulani not knowing that there are many other ethnic groups in the North... and so when PMB appoints some people from the north, some tribal bigots such as Edwin Clark start shouting marginalization and saying PMB is nepotistic. The current Chief of Staff to PMB is Boss Mustapha a non-Muslim from Adamawa so what do these people want again in a multi-ethnic and multi-religious country such as Nigeria.
Most of them never knew that non-Muslims exist in Southern Borno, Southern Yobe and the like until the Chibok girls got kidnapped in 2014.
Barnabas Jabila Mshelia (Sergeant Rogers) is from Borno for instance.
Yes. I am from Southern Borno, same tribe with Buratai and also the sergeant you mentioned, from his third name MSHELIA, he is clearly from the same clan as my mum. BIU, HAWUL, SHANI, BAYO and KWAYAR KUSA LGA of BORNO STATE are all Bura/Babur Ethnic Group. COAS Tukur Yusuf Buratai (Lt.Gen) is from Buratai Village in BIU LGA. What many people do not know is that the whole NORTH EAST are not hausa's, BORNO, YOBE. ADAMAWA. GOMBE. BAUCHI and TARABA have different distinct tribes but people think we are hausa because we speak hausa language and majority of us are Muslims. 2 Likes 1 Share |

dolphinife: Nonsense talks.....are Itshekiri, Urhobo, Isoko, Benin, Annang, Ogoni, And so countless numerous ethnic groups in southern Nigeria are also not worthy to be considered for any top security job? Why are we all fixated on Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa/Fulani? Are they the only ethnic groups in Nigeria? Buratai is not even an Hausa or Fulani man, but kanuri....so why do we always look at political appointments from the basis of 3 ethnic groups?
