An American, Franz Gastler, is teaching young Indian slum girls how to improve their lives through the game of football. Monica Sarkar reports from Mumbai.

Mr Gastler, 30, is from a middle-class family in Edina, Minnesota, but for the moment, he has swapped his comforts for the dust and grime of Indian slums.

He divides his time between Ranchi, the capital of the eastern state of Jharkhand, and the western city of Mumbai.
A graduate of Boston University, he joined a non-governmental organisation in 2008 which brought him to Jharkhand.
The state is one of the poorest in India with one of the highest rates of illiteracy, child mortality and malnutrition.

The transfer Window has not started with the usual buzz we all expected as Cech, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Sterling are the only big deals this window.

It is confirmed that negotiations are on going to make Sunday Oliseh the next coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

“An offer has been made, and there is understanding, but we have to work out the final details of the agreement in a few days. Of course, the Executive Board has to give approval for his appointment based on the final terms to be agreed,” said Felix Anyansi-Agwu, chairman of the NFF Technical and Development Committee.

PINICK: “Sunday Oliseh has vast experience and immense knowledge of the game, and will certainly add value to what we are doing. He has bought into our vision and objectives towards the development of Nigeria football. He will command the respect of the players and we trust he has the temperament to work harmoniously with the Technical and Development Committee, the Technical Directorate and the Technical Study Group.

“On our part at the NFF, we will give him all the support to succeed as we have been giving to all our coaches. Subject to the approval of the NFF Executive Committee, we will conclude negotiations by weekend and he will be unveiled next week.”

Sunday Oliseh is a FIFA instructor and runs a consultancy that access and train coaches. His coaching experience is minimal even though he has a UEFA Pro License. He has little coaching experience as he only managed to coach a Belgian lower division club, Vervietois between 2008 and 2009.

The first step is to write an application to be a football agent letter addressed to the Nigerian Football Federation, attach some documents like your payment slip (An application amount paid to the NFF account: the fee and account is subject to the administration on board, you can find out from the NFF office closest to you) and other documents like your date of birth, state of origin, and other academic and nonacademic certificates. First leaving certificate is enough.

The NFF will send your name to the NDLEA, EFCC, CPC and other Bureaus to check if you have been involved in any drug related or fraudulent cases prior to your application. You will be invited for an exam if you scale through the background check hurdle.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE ACCORDING TO ARTICLE 8 OF FIFA STATUS

If your application satisfies the relevant prerequisites, the Nigerian Football Federation will
invite you to take a written examination. The NFF may hold examinations twice a year in the months of March and September. The exact dates shall be determined by FIFA in January and June of each year. The examination is organised by the NFF in Abuja and held under the general supervision of FIFA. The examination shall be set as a multiple-choice test. You are considered to have passed the examination if you attain the minimum mark set by FIFA.

Our own Peter Odemwingie has been rewarded with a new one-year contract extension at Stoke City. He will remain at the Britannia Stadium until the end of the next campaign. he will be rewarded with a further 12 months extension at the end of next season if his performance is good enough.

Arsenal officially announced the signing of Petr Cech yesterday and Manchester United may seal Morgan Scneiderlin 's deal before the end of the week. Liverpool are also busy signing every Southampton player they can lay their hands on.

Big fact - Chelsea are a bit passive and pensive in the transfer Window . Why is it so? By this time last transfer Window, Chelsea had already signed Costa and Fabregas. But it is different now as we only heard of Cech's departure as the active transfer news at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea's lack of activities can also be explained by the lack of activities in Real Madrid and Barcelona and even Bayern Munich. Though the difference in quality between Chelsea and Barca and Madrid is huge, but very few players can improve the first 11 at Chelsea and they are not available.

Who will improve Courtois, Terry, Cahill, Ivanovic, Asplicueta, Matic, Fabregas, Willian, Hazard, Oscar and Costa? Very few players can.
Not even a Griezmann or a Lacazzette. But a Bale, Aguero, Pogba, Ronaldo and Messi will improve Chelsea but (apart from Pogba) they are not available at any price.

Pogba can displace Oscar. But he is not too better than Oscar and yet he is too expensive for a position that do not need to much of an upgrade.

So we see Chelsea buying "squad players" in this transfer Window so that players like Hazard and Co can have some rest from time to time.
That's why we expect a Bogovic and a Falcao as Cech and Drogba's replacement and maybe a Pogba just to upgrade Oscar's position and also give Matic some rests. If Pogba doesn't come, we expect another defensive midfielder. We also feel Chelsea might promote Luftus Cheek and Betrand Traore (Who did beyond excellent in the current under 21 team).
