What Rights Do We Deserve As Human Beings? by Cogent: 7:54pm On Aug 01, 2012
I am not saying we don't deserve any rights, I was just thinking what exactly are those rights and why do we deserve them?
In a general sense, if asked to mention what some of those rights we might say:
1 We are entitled to equal treatment as long as we do not infringe on another's rights.
2. We are entitled to live safely and be our own person with our own possesions.
3. We are entitled to freedom of expression,

But are we are entitled to deserve
anything at all?
Don't you have to do something to deserve entitlement?
When considering our soceital rights, we find that they are something of an externally imposed doctrine composed by people who society deems fit to decide what our rights should be.
Furthermore, by what authority is divined the capacity for one to tell another what is suitable for them?
Do we deserve any rights? Why do we deserve them?

What is the connection between Rights and Righteousness?

Who or What determines our Rights? Is it arbitrary or is there an Authority that determines it?

What is Justice? Why do we feel affronted by people earning more than they 'deserve'? Or by people NOT getting what they deserve?

Where does the sense of Entitlement come from?

Why can't we just look at life and say, 'well that's the way the cookie crumbles, live with it'?

Why do we have a sense of the way things OUGHT to be? Why can't we just accept things the way they are? Yes even with the 'injustice', 'travesties', 'inequalities', and all the various manners of unfairness we see around us everyday.

I think this is the question OP asked.
Pastor AIO: Why do we feel affronted by people earning more than they 'deserve'? Or by people NOT getting what they deserve?
Firstly, our cognitive processes and learning experiences lead us to decide on what the things people should deserve or not deserve. Empathy plays a role in our feeling concerned about these things and empathic feelings are rooted in neurological processes that activate the part of neuronal network which produces the same or similar state (of those we feel empathy for) in ourselves and these neuronal processes are believed to have been evolved due to the need for cooperative provision and the need for parents to care for their children.

We will not be able to improve our lives or solve the problems we have in them when we just accept things the way they are and don't attempt to improve them. Again, our learning experiences and cognitive processes are what help us decide what we should consider to be injustices, travesties, inequalities etc.

If we examine the whole thing closely, we would probably find that it all simply boils down to cerebral functions with nothing fancy about it.

Truth is: There is no right/wrong without authority. Yes! "Might is Right" It is by this might that you enforce laws and provide protection for the weak, and by this might you determine what any member of the society is entitled to. So, you wanna know what you deserve? Then Find out what the prevailing authority provides you.

Depends on how closely we examine the whole thing

How can we possibly get closer after getting to the cellular levels?

Oh there are atomic and sub-atomic levels beyond the cellular levels. We just have to keep looking closely

1 Does any authority actually have the right to decide what an entire population of people deserve?
2. The prevailing authority is bound to be deficient in one way or another when deciding what the generality of the populace should adopt as laws/rights. If we know what the deficient/inappropriate laws are, are we allowed to ignore them and do what we like instead? For instance in Saudi Arabia where women can't drive.

Yes! Otherwise, it's not an authority.

There is no universe where you can do what you like without the power to back it up. So, until you supersede the current powers, you have to be bound by it's rules. Sounds hash but that's life. No sentiments.
