Litmus: Ajoke Odumosu national record is 54.40. Looking at the times set by the finalist, I suppose that fifth place was the best she could have achieved.

Too bad especially when she had had to load a plate of eba before the race.

antitpiah: It is not the online critics who count; not the dumb as/s behind the computer who points out how Adejoke Odumosu stumbles, or how she could have run faster. The credit belongs to Ajoke Odumosu who is actually in the Olympics, whose muscle is marred by dust and sweat and lactic acid build-up; who runs valiantly; who errs, who comes last again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to compete against world class athletes; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends herself representing an ungrateful nation; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, after coming last, at least came last while daring greatly, so that her place shall never be with those lazy and fat losers on nairaland who neither know victory nor defeat.
Superb!

Litmus: Ajoke Odumosu national record is 54.40. Looking at the times set by the finalist, I suppose that fifth place was the best she could have achieved.

Good! Best Point so far.The earlier we start applying a lil scientific and logical approach to our preparations for d olympics, the better for us...An athlete is supposed to get d past records of previous winners from Gold to the Bronze level, check their timings and compare with her performances in recent times. If she sees that it is too marginal, then she should go for more trainings and if she cannot meet up or get close to those figures (I.e the timings) on several occasions before the main competition, then she should know that she cannot win a medal because,it is rare for athletes to run a personal best and win medals at d olympics.Infact, such athletes would av been running so close to dat personal best b4 d competition proper.Imagine someone that has never ran less than 11seconds aving a dream of winning a medal in 100m.Ajoke knew right in her mind even before that race that she is not a medal hopeful because she knows d profile of d other competitors, their personal bests and their current form.We are d medal hopefuls. She just gave it a try cos it is better to try than not to try atall. She tried her best but it was obviously and expectedly not good enough.
