Queen's Council (QC) of United Kingdom is Nigerian equivalent of Senior Advocates of Nigerian (SAN). They are the respected in the legal progression. But is QC obtained the same way as SAN?

In UK, QC does not need to apply for recognition. His works are there to speak for him. He is simply called upon by the requisite authority to receive the title. Besides, in the prosecution of the case itself, QC does not usurp authority of the junior lawyers; neither are given preference in hearing. QC does not claim any intelligence not practicable before the judge over the junior lawyers. QC recognizes that some junior lawyers could be far more intelligent and accords such the due respect. The judge in UK does not give preference to QC in selecting cases. The only preference is where specific inputs are needed that have to do with age and experience in practice. Otherwise, there is no difference between QC and ordinary lawyer in UK.

Here in Nigeria, the situation is a different kettle of fish. The Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) is the untouchable demigod that is never questioned or wronged in court. The junior lawyers visually worship them in the Court. The judge is often frightened in their presence. Whereas many junior lawyers are far more intelligent than most SANs, they (junior lawyers) are heavily checkmated in legal proceedings in court when a case involving a junior lawyer and SAN is involved. The former rarely wins his case no matter how intelligent he presents and argues his case just to please the demigod called SAN, to maintain a subsisting hellish precedence.

September 2011, former Lagos state Governor, Bola Tinubu was charged by the Code of Conduct Bureau for illegally operating foreign accounts while in office as governor . He Tinubu stormed into the Tribunal with total of 10 senior advocate of Nigeria, Olanipekun, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, Charles Udoswan, Niyi Akintola, Dele Belgore, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Kabiru Turaki, Ifedayo Adedipe, Deji Sasegbo and Dele Adesina only to intimidate the chairman of the tribunal, Umar Danladi. Is this law?
