The pyguru doesn't seem to me as a well functioning spam-bot(as people are making it to look like). I still think somebody is behind the pyguru hiding of posts in this forum than an automated software. If it is a program then the algorithms is poor and needs some additional correction of the expressions. Yes, I work with Python and I can tell the pyguru is nothing near a very functional program.

I hope the person behind it work in correcting the error. Or the moderator using it as excuse should stop hiding people posts unnecessary.

I quite agree there can only be partnership between political party members than political parties(like US Dem and Nigerian ACN or PDP).

I still don't know why Nigerian politics can't think beyond their nostrils... You have tried the American form of democracy and system of government for more than 40 years, and it has failed... Why can't you look elsewhere and try something new?? Nigeria isn't America and we've nothing in common - America thrives on its military complex, something that isn't synonymous with Nigeria...

I don't know if this alleged 'partnership' is just to make these people look cool because it's illegal... These ACN guys are just as bad as PDP - they don't care about the people, they only care about their deluded and egotistical minds.... Everyone claims they're AWOISTS - but Awolowo would never have done this... ACN, PDP, PCP - different names, but the same clowns...

Try something new.. Dammit... Chinese model, UK model, Brazilian model - try something new for crying out loud... The flawed American system has FAILED!!
Your country is practicing American system of government from head to toe and there is nothing illegal about political parties working with other political parties around the world.

Partnership between the Democratic Party and CAN is quite possible and this won't be the first time you'll have this kind of collaboration between a Nigerian political party and a US political party.

Like most laws governing political activities in the US (eg campaign funding) there's always a way to go around things without breaking the law. In this case, they are called the IRI and the IDI.

International Republican Institute

Founded in 1983, the International Republican Institute (IRI) is an ideologically right-wing organisation, funded by the United States government, that conducts international political programs, sometimes called 'democratization programs'.[2]

Initially known as the National Republican Institute for International Affairs, the IRI's stated mission is to expand freedom throughout the world. Its activities include teaching and assisting with right-wing political party and candidate development in their values, "good governance" practices, civil society development, civic education, women’s and youth leadership development, electoral reform and election monitoring, and political expression in closed societies. It has been chaired by former presidential candidate John Mm
McCain since January 1993.[1][3]

IRI was involved in Haiti prior to the 2004 Haitian coup d'état,[4] in Honduras following the 2009 Coup d'état,[5], attempting to normalize and legitimize it, organized conservative political parties in Poland,[6] and has been involved in political activities in Egypt during the Arab Spring.[7]

Background

The IRI is a non-profit, non-partisan organization founded in 1983 after U.S. President Ronald Reagan's 1982 speech before the British Parliament in Westminster in which he proposed a broad objective of helping countries build the infrastructure of democracy. Quoting the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, he stated: "we must be staunch in our conviction that freedom is not the sole prerogative of a lucky few but the inalienable and universal right of all human beings."[8]

The Westminster speech led to the establishment of the National Endowment for Democracy by Congress in 1983. The endowment is a mechanism to channel congressional funds to the IRI and three other institutes: the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, the American Center for International Labor Solidarity, and the Center for International Private Enterprise. These organizations provide technical assistance to political bodies worldwide.

The majority of the IRI's funding comes from the US Agency for International Development (USAID), the US State Department, and the National Endowment for Democracy.

At first, IRI focused on democratic institutions and processes in Latin America but has expanded its focus worldwide since the end of the Cold War. IRI has conducted programs in more than 100 countries and is currently active in 70 countries.

The IRI operates as a political organization abroad, providing training and assistance to favoured political parties. As a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, it plays no part in domestic U.S. politics. However, the majority of its board, staff and consultants are drawn from the Republican Party.[2] Its sister organization, the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, draws mainly from the Democratic Party.

IRI works with the following organizations:

United States State Department

United States Agency for International Development

National Endowment for Democracy

National Democratic Institute for International Affairs

International Foundation for Election Systems

In Europe, IRI has established a partnership with the European People's Party (EPP).

It has pursued a nominally neutral agenda, which, however, seeks to question the legitimacy of the region's current administrations, which nowadays are largely social-democratic or socialist, trying to purport them as non-democratic and resting importance to their electoral results.

2004 Haitian coup

The IRI is accused of training some of the leaders of the 2004 Haitian coup d'état, as well as funding opposition groups in the country in a destabilization campaign in the months leading up the removal of democratically elected President Jean-Bertrand Aristide by a coalition of Canada, the US and France. Aristide was replaced with an unelected government.

The IRI received funding for the Haiti project from USAID for two years (late 2002-2004).[9][10] IRI ended all programming in Haiti in summer 2007.[11]

The now defunct web site http://www.haitigetinvolved.com/ was displaying the IRI logo together with the title "Haiti Get Involved!"[12] from about 2003 until mid 2005, and to be offering news, analysis, reports, documents and training manuals as well as information on the upcoming election and a list of political parties.

Canadian Broadcasting Corporation television premiered a documentary film about the IRI's role in the coup, Haiti: Democracy Undone, on 29 January 2006.[4]

Freedom of Information Act documents show that the IRI was involved in training and supporting pro-coup opposition parties[13]

IRI was accused by former US Ambassador Brian Dean Curran of undermining his efforts to hold peaceful negotiations between Aristide and his opposition after contested senatorial elections in 2000. According to Curran, Stanley Lucas, then IRI's representative in Haiti, advised opposition leaders not to compromise with Aristide, who would soon be driven from power. Curran also alleged that Lucas represented himself to the opposition as the true envoy of Washington, and his advice—which was contrary to that of the State Department—as advice from the American government.[14] IRI responded to Ambassador Curran's allegations in a letter to the New York Times, stating:

"'Mixed U.S. Signals Helped Tilt Haiti Toward Chaos' (front page, Jan. 29) found support for some of former Ambassador Brian Dean Curran's charges among only a few Haitians, most of them former associates of President Jean-Bertrand Aristide. All have obvious motivation to impugn the International Republican Institute's work, and none presented any evidence to back their accusations." [15]

Otto Reich, who was the State Department's top official on Latin America under Colin Powell, described a change in US policy toward Haiti with the arrival of the Bush administration. According to Reich, Aristide fell somewhat out of favor with the change of US executive, though Powell continued to publicly profess U.S. support for the democratically elected leader. Curran's allegations were corroborated by Luigi R. Einaudi of the Organization of American States.[14]

Cuba

The Cuban government accuses former Congressional staffer Caleb McCarry of orchestrating the 2004 Haitian coup and attempting to provoke a coup d'état in Cuba.[16] An anonymous State Department source told a Salon.com journalist that the funds McCarry allegedly used in Haiti came from the IRI.[17]

2009 Honduran coup d'état

IRI refuses to term the event as such and rather euphemistically calls it a "constitutional crisis" The IRI received $550,000 from the National Endowment for Democracy in 2009 in order to "promote and enhance the participation of think tanks in Mexico and Honduras as 'pressure groups' to impel political parties to develop concrete positions on key issues", and to "support initiatives to implement political positions during the campaigns in 2009" following the coup.[5]

Europe

Poland

The IRI claims credit for having united and organised a diverse range of "center and center right-wing" political parties together to create the Solidarity Electoral Action (AWS), which was in government in Poland, together with its coalition partner the Freedom Union (UW) party, from 1997 to 2001.[6] It claims having provided training in political campaigning, communications training and research which helped organise and create the AWS. It also claims that once the AWS was in government, it organised an advertising campaign for the Polish government in order to stop the AWS splitting up over internal tensions:[6]

IRI initiated a post-election program that emphasized media and communications training for Prime Minister Jerzy Buzek's chancellory and cabinet.

Middle East

According to an April 2011 New York Times article, the IRI, the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs and other groups were credited for training activists in the Middle East, specifically Egypt and Tunisia, who were advocating for reform in authoritarian regimes.

"The money spent on these programs was minute compared with efforts led by the Pentagon. But as American officials and others look back at the uprisings of the Arab Spring, they are seeing that the United States’ democracy-building campaigns played a bigger role in fomenting protests than was previously known, with key leaders of the movements having been trained by the Americans in campaigning, organizing through new media tools and monitoring elections.

"A number of the groups and individuals directly involved in the revolts and reforms sweeping the region, including the April 6 Youth Movement in Egypt, the Bahrain Center for Human Rights and grass-roots activists like Entsar Qadhi, a youth leader in Yemen, received training and financing from groups like the International Republican Institute, the National Democratic Institute and Freedom House, a nonprofit human rights organization based in Washington, according to interviews in recent weeks and American diplomatic cables obtained by WikiLeaks.” [18]

A ministry of justice's report on foreign funding of NGOs in Egypt has revealed that IRI in Egypt has received funding of about 7 million dollars by USAID for the upcoming Egyptian 2011-12 elections. The military rulers who gained control of the country following the January 2011 revolution consider this foreign funding interference in internal affairs

The National Democratic Institute for International Affairs

The National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDIIA or NDI) is an organization created by the United States government by way of the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) to channel grants for furthering democracy in developing nations. It was founded in 1983, shortly after the U.S. Congress created the National Endowment for Democracy.[1] Taxpayer funding is provided by the Federal Government, both directly from the United States Agency for International Development and the Department of State and indirectly through the National Endowment for Democracy. Additional funds are raised through voluntary donations from foreign governments, multilateral institutions, and private foundations.[2] It is headquartered in Washington, D.C.

Under its mission, "NDI provides practical assistance to civic and political leaders advancing democratic values, practices and institutions. NDI works with democrats in every region of the world to build political and civic organizations, safeguard elections, and to promote citizen participation, openness and accountability in government." NDI has worked in 125 different countries and territories since it was created and its six main areas of work are citizen participation, election processes, political parties, women in politics, democracy and technology, and democratic governance.[3]

NDI is loosely associated with the Democratic Party of the United States[4] and maintains ties with the Liberal International, Socialist International, and the Centrist Democrat International (formerly Christian Democrats). However, NDI's programs are nonpartisan, and it works with various democratic and non-violent political parties and civic groups. As stated on its website, "NDI does not presume to impose solutions nor does it believe that one democratic system can be replicated elsewhere. Rather, NDI shares experiences and offers a range of options so that leaders can adapt those practices and institutions that may work best in their own political environment."

While the content of this article is true, the title is entirely mis-leading. As others have
noted, a political party in the US cannot form a partnership with a party in another country.
However, political consultants in the US are allowed to work with political parties in other
countries. Unfortunately, some of these consultants are not cheap. Their fees can run into
millions of dollars a year. Some well known political consultants include:

James Carville (Democrat)
Joe Trippi (Democrat)
Paul Begala (Democrat)

Dic*k Morris (Republican)
Ed Gillespie (Republican)
Karl Rove (Republican)

So instead of "ACN Explores Partnership With US Democratic Party", the title should have
read "ACN Explores Partnership With US Democratic Consultants".

P.S: David Rosen who was mentioned in the article is also a democratic consultant.

Paul John: As the Democratic Party National Convention wound down Thursday night in the United States of America, the leadership of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), led by its national leader, Senator Bola Tinubu, are rounding up talks on how to strengthen the party in terms of building a stronger and more visible identity that will recast the opposition in a new light and with a focused agenda.

The idea is to project and present the opposition as one with an alternative agenda and to press forward to explain this alternative agenda in contrast with that of the ruling party.

Two former Democratic Party governors and a member of the executive alongside a senior aide to former President Bill Clinton will work with the ACN to sharpen its message and political appeal.

"The first leg will be helping to enhance Nigeria's political culture by de-emphasising personalities and promoting ideas' said Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State.

"The last few days have shown that a well organised democratic system will always serve the people better and make the country stronger," he said.

"Nigeria still has a learning curve and we will get there but we must do the needful and partner with people, parties with whom we share similar ideas."

Governor David Rosen said the Democratic Party has a lot to offer to parties in Africa and elsewhere who are looking for ideas and ideals that places people at the centre of politics.

Speaking at the meeting, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Adeyemi Ikuforiji, said the ACN was looking forward to seeing a new era where politicians are well informed and properly cultured.

On his part, Tinubu said Nigeria has great potential and brilliant minds that can lead the new political renaissance Nigerians crave for.

"All we need to do is to invest our time in finding these talents and nurture them into maturity. This convention has demonstrated the superiority of ideas and principles and party identity over any other approach to real politic."

This is most definitely the biggest joke of the millenium. See criminal ACN wanting to shake hands with americas' democratic party.
