DEAR DOG LOVERS, As we wait for this year's issue to arrive, I'd like to say that Dog's World Magazine is put together by a team of dog lovers and owners in Nigeria. Our aim is to promote responsible dog ownership, and we do this by making it easy for you to buy, own and maintain a dog. How do we do this? by giving you access to information that you need/want in an entertaining manner. We received a flood of feedback from you which has led to a couple major changes. I am sure that you will notice the difference in layout and content between issue 12 and issue 13. I do hope that you will appreciate the visual impact of this issue. Below is a preview of the Editor's Letter with the list of our team members. Search for dogs world magazine on Facebook

I'm Thinking of Getting a Dog, security reasons mostly, I'm a first time owner and I have children (my nieces and nephews) who come visiting periodically. What sort of breed do you suggest? and Where's the best place to Buy from? Also for a well fed, well taken care of Dog, what do I budget monthly for feeding, vets, etc? |

cluewebhost: I'm Thinking of Getting a Dog, security reasons mostly, I'm a first time owner and I have children (my nieces and nephews) who come visiting periodically. I'll advice you go for a male German shepherd/alsatian or a female rottweiler. As a first time dog owner, do researchs on whichever of the breeds u want to know the dog's behaviour very well. As for taking care of the dog...it depends on what you want to feed the dog. Dry feeds/kibble can cost #10,000 per bag and you might also want to add can foods. In a month feeding+vet care should not be more than #30,000 1 Like |

Dear Cluewebhost, For a first time dog owner, why don't you try a black labrador. First of all, the best dog you could ever get is a black coloured dog. Nigerians are more afraid of black coloured dog than any other coloured dog. Secondly, as a first time owner, a Labrador which is very affectionate and good with children, will be easier to handle. Thirdly, when it comes to feeding your Labrador, it will not cost you as much as a rottweiler or boerboel. Lastly, I would go for a male dog. As a first time buyer, you won't have to deal with the possibilities of your female dog getting pregnant. What do you think? @ Dapsonsou Please explain why you have made a distinction between the sexes. FB: |

^^^ Like you said sir, she won't have to worry about the rigours of breeding. Thats why i said a male GSD and male dogs generally by nature tend to be more protective than females. But male rottweilers can be over-protective and can hurt kids if not monitored. Thats my reason for d diff sexes. #my opinion 1 Like |

PLEASE NOTE THE AD ABOVE refers to a female, but the photos are that of a Male When choosing a puppy, what types of photo are useful to a potential buyer? When choosing a new dog, always ask to see in real life, the parents of your puppy. This will give you an idea of what your dog will look like and what kind of character he will have. Character/temperament is an inherited trait If you can't, ask for photos of the parents (very important!) Ask for photos of your pup showing the full profile of your puppy standing on all fours and the full length portrait of your future puppy. Then use this pic to show to a breed expert and/or compare with photos of the same breed, at the same age on GOOGLE IMAGES. I hope this helps
