The National Primary Health Care Development Agency, NPHCDA, has said it would have saved 1,200,000 women by 2015 under President Goodluck Jonathan administration’s SURE-P Maternal and Child Health programme.

Its Executive Director, Dr. Ado Muhammad, said this in Kaduna during the orientation exercise of midwives under the SURE-P maternal and child health project.

He said the agency would upgrade equipment and infrastructure of 500 health facilities across the country by end of the year.

Muhammad added that the NPHCDA would recruit and deploy 2,000 midwives, 1,000 community and 3,000 village health workers to selected primary health care facilities nationwide for efficient services.

The executive director noted that under the oil subsidy re-investment health programme, conditional cash transfer was designed to provide financial incentives to pregnant women and fully immunised children in rural areas.

He said: “This is a fulfilment of Mr. President’s commitment to re-invest the savings accrued from the fuel subsidy reduction into programmes that provide social safety nets, build critical infrastructure and provide human resource empowerment training for Nigeria’s populace.”

Sorry oo. Primary health care is the responsibility of all three tiers. Health issues generally are in the concurrent list hence both states and FG have a constitutional mandate to tackle it.
The National Primary Health Care Development Agency is the agency of government at the federal level charged with such functions.
It predates Jonathan's administration. But the transformation agenda of Mr President has placed the agency in limelight from relative obscurity.
Sometime last month, they advertised in major national dailies the pre qualification evaluation for award of over 2,000 health projects across the federation.
That notwithstanding, they are now charged with the task to implement the SURE P on Health.

Where the states and LGs fail to do their part, what do you expect?
When people blame the FG for potholes on their village roads, do they remember it's d responsibility of Stae/local govt? No

The practical steps taken by SURE-P committee have reinforced people's trust in the Govt. The initial fear that SURE-P was a ploy by Govt to exploit the masses has died down owing to the physical manifestations of SURE P projects. For instance, the FCT Administration recently shared the sum of N1.786b, being funds received from SURE P FOR DEVELOPMENTAL PROJECTS;the committee also paid the total of N25b to contractors handling various projects at various locations across the country, with Dantataand Sawoe, CCECC, Reynold const. Companies and so on being beneficiaries.; the committee intervened in the rehabilitation of the rail line two years after the Nigeria railway suspended operations on the route and so on. Now women have been captured in the scheme! It can only get better.

Sleeping as usual(most of them though) while we are concentrating all our attention on the FG. I said sometime ago in another thread that the Governors(especially) would be laughing their azzzez out that we have completely forgotten them- the former butt of our virulent criticisms

Thank you very much. Increasingly, this government keeps dumbfounding critics with performance.
They said severally that the SURE P was a fraud intended to deprive them of their subsidy money. Little did they know that government will come out with evidence of these projects.
Since last week, we have been inundated with several projects on execution through SURE P.

The SURE P accounts for the reconstruction of the abandoned BENIN-ORE-SAGAMU expressway. It accounts for the resumption of work on the abandoned ABUJA-LOKOJA road. It also accounts for the re award of KANO-MAIDUGRI.
It accounts for the remodelling and reconstruction of 6 out of the 11 terminals of our airports.
It accounts for the CCCEC rail projects.
It accounts for the new National Primary Health Care projects on maternal and child health programmes
