onomeasike:

you must be a complete fool for trying to rationalise a clear case of indiscretion on the part of Jonathan angry angry angry.Give that same platform to a barack Obama or Almajinahed of Iran or even the deranged Albashir of Sudan, none of these guys despite their personal faults will give a dry shallow remark made by Jonathan. An Obasanjo would have used that platform to seek the reform of ICJ itself! We as a nation feel wronged by an icj judgement, our senate is on the verge of doing a damage control inflicted by icj, what better opportunity to tactically play the icj or even review our membership or be completely uncommital!!At least show respect to the senate and the bakassi natives, that platform in this circumstances and time is not ideal to make a pronounced endorsement of icj!!!In international diplomacy, perception is very important!!What would you,as a foreigner percieve,if you read a press headline stating "nigerian leader endorses ICJ,I will abide by bakassi judgement(deliberately twisted to replace all ruling),he insists" the next day foriegners read that some natives are protesting against the ruling, nigerians are thus percieved as confused and illogical, mind you,the icj judges will read these views and may be swayed to favour a more focused cameroun just because someone can not use his number 6!!Jonathan must be sanctioned!!
all the effort done by patriotic researchers to dig out fresh facts in http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/09/bakassi-belongs-to-nigeria-fresh-facts-reveal/ will be rubbished by negative perception foisted by a simple-minded president!arrrrgh

The President has said the country will abide by the rulings of ICJ which include the appeal for the Bakkassi Penisula. I beg stop making issues out of nothing here.

Demdem: What will happen if we ask the ICJ to simply Ffuck off undecided undecided
How many countries especially from the developed world obey the ICJ itself.
Those supporting this should get to Bakassi and see what goes on there. The people should be the key factor here.

Cameroun with the backing of France will visit you and hope you can match France one for one

It may be possible that Nigeria is trying to avoid an 'African Kashmir' and that perhaps makes sense. I however do not understand why our president went to the UN to say this. All the while FG has not reacted to local proponents of an ICJ appeal and ow went to UN to give us all a reply. Amazing!!!

What are the president's men advising?

All of a sudden this forum seems a lil too dark on my phone.. There must be a couple ghanaians up in here...

@topic views and counter views are been bandied back and forth.I don't see how it will hurt jonathan to appeal based on the fresh facts available.
Bakassi is still listed as a LGA in cross river..still draws monthly subvention from the CRS government, they even have a senator Mrs ita giwa ,their votes constitute part of the votes that sent GEJ into power. No responsible government will allow some crack head ICJ rulling subject its people to untold hardship especially when it hadn't exhausted all options for solutions available to it

PORT HARCOURT— LITERARY icon, Captain Elechi Amadi (rtd), has described the reluctance by President Goodluck Jonathan to challenge the verdict of the International Court of Justice, ICJ, on Bakassi as impeachable offence.

Amadi, yesterday, in his country home, Aluu, Rivers State, said President Jonathan had no cogent reason not to act, adding that the President would have behaved differently, if he had been from Bakassi.

Elechi Amadi, a civil war veteran, argued that among other things, a President was elected to right the wrongs in a country, noting that it would be crazy for the Federal Government to cede Bakassi to Cameroun without giving people of the area opportunity to decide where they want to belong.

He said: “What if the President had come from Bakassi? Would he be so nonchalant about the ceding of Bakassi to the Cameroons? Are the people of Bakassi second class citizens? Are they not covered by the United Nations Charter on Fundamental Human Rights? Whose interest is the President serving, anyway?”

Until africans form their own union or bloc and all tribes come together to redefine their territories and express their right to choose the country they want to belong in, this will keep happening. For those using the biafra angle you are just trying to be noticed. The whole African continent was a spoil of war.It was divided the by the Europeans, and agreements were made without the consent of the people. Until we decide to redraw out maps by tribe and associated tribes, this will keep happening. The whole Europe is divided into countries according to ethnic groups or groups of clans.
Calabar — President Goodluck Jonathan said Nigeria will remain committed to all rulings of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in resolving international disputes.

Addressing the first-ever High-Level Plenary Session of the United Nations on the Rule of Law yesterday in New York, President Jonathan said Nigeria will continue to obey ICJ rulings while calling on nations not to pick and select rulings to observe.
What if the ruling doesn't favour the people of the country? U swallow it hook, line and sinker?
Pls the president's advisers should advise him to try the appeal, even if we loose, we would be happy that we tried. And the people of Bakassi will feel better because an effort was made on their behalf

onomeasike: this statement made by jonathan has thrown spanner in the nigerian senate's plan to discuss this case thus foisting a fait accompli on the senate and technically finished the efik's claim to bakasi.Trust the camerounians,This statement will be documented, given wide publicity in both local and international media (especially the francophone media) and presented by the cameroonians as evidence in the event that this case is re-opened!!The least jonathan could do is to use nigerian senate's plan to discuss it as an excuse not to make pronouncement on it and tactically claiming that he would not want to disrespect the nigerian senate while assuring the international community of nigeria's commitment to the rule of Law.Frankly,Jonathan has no iota of respect for the nigerian legislature!!The senate must prove to jonathan that it can bark and bite. This statement is treasonable,Jonathan has sold out nigeria!! embarassed embarassed embarassed embarassed. The senate must not abandon their plan to revisit the case, their must be official documentation and acknowledgement of the fresh facts confirming that bakasi belongs to Nigeria and the senate must sanction jonathan to prove that this his disgraceful statement does not represent the collective views of nigerians and was done in contempt of the legislature and prejudice the fresh facts. The bakasi natives must begin to take their plan B to declare their soverignity serious so they can have more bargaining power, they should not put all their hopes in the senate or icj.It is their land, they must have the final say.I feel for them embarassed embarassed embarassed

May u leave long, dis is just d truth may God continue to bless u with more sound mind.

SmoothCrim201S: Obama is the president of the most powerful nation in the history of this Universe! He also happens to be of African decent so, people were naturally excited that he chose to come to Ghana on his first trip to Sub-Saharan Africa.

That is now history which will forever be written there for 1000 years! Good history not the type the Yorobbers(Yoruba), Ignoble's(Igbo), Fulani's(Fulani), Howsads(Hausa's) and other criminals are creating for the Failed state of Nigeria now under Imperial Cameroonian rule!!!!!!
which history? Na you wan write the book? Guy, the oyibo wey go write AMERICAN history, won't acknowledge any African country, maybe Kenya, but Ghana will be a spec of dust in the whole scheme, don't hype yourselves. Una say Ghana better pass Naija, yet, richest African, una no get, King of Afrobeat, na we, the only recognized movie industry in Africa. Na WE. Even when we reduce hand, Nigeria still has the longest bridge and tallest building in WA, how una kon better pass us? Una get light, finish, na wetin dey sweet you for body? Mtcheww, talk better abeg.

At the time of this decision, they were not Nigerians but Biafrans. Hence, Gowon had no legitimate authority to sign away a territory that was no longer under Nigeria Authority?

Technically correct and logically accurate. Which part of this does ICJ egg heads not understand. Jonathan you mumu pass mumu.

To settle dis with Cameroon the Nigerian Army is not required. Just a bunch of local folks that are well armed, will teach Cameroon to respect borders and culture. The real Bakassi Militia Boyz(south nigeria) not that fake Igbo vigilante group.
