Apart from the general improvements in d indicators of the budget since he came(reductn of Recurrent from 78% in 2010 to 68.7% dis time, reductn of Overhead from about about 500b in 2010 to about 200b dis time, reductn of deficit from about 2.9% in 2010 to 2.18% dis time, etc ) as a practical person am more impressd by d practical incentives in terms of taxes and excise duties the govt is putting in place to attract serious investors, increasd industralisatn and create jobs- the 0% duty for Sugar relatd equipment( including a 5yr tax holiday), 0% duty for aircraft parts(smthing the d aviatn guys hv bn pleading for for yrs), 0% duty for all equipments related to solid mineral exploration, and bus spare parts etc. Add all these to those already announced for cassava, rice, cocoa, oil palm etc( which are already hving sm impart) and of course d recent 30% infrastructure tax rebate for industries as well as 10% tax rebate for employing more than 10 workers- this is not only practical LEADERSHIP but also putting actions to one's plans. Very commendable.. I was also impressd by d fact dat sm real practical emphasis was placed on women, which is important if one is serious in reducing poverty.....this was not just a mere budget Speech but containd practical outlines to achieving sm of its aim; hopefully d implementatn wud improve just as d Speaker insistd it shld 6 Likes |

But in all seriousness the House of Assembly must be fought on their attempts to increase the oil benchmark. What are they going to do with the extra money and does more money automatically mean increased implementation? We need to start actually putting more money in our savings acount as a nation and increasing oil benchmark works against that. Again, what do they want to do with the extra money? They should be setting target of 85 percent implementation and working hard towards helping government achieve that, not worrying about oil benchmark, wetin consain dem? |

Louis88: Late budget presentation has always been one of the excuses that everybody been giving for poor implementation, this is one area that this govt recognized and decided to set things straight,at least now that GEJ has identified this problem and has successfully solved it like he said he would,I believe this is a strong indication that he wants the budget to succeed and impact on the lives of every Nigerian, because this is a challenge that he is giving to his cabinet, they have no excuse not to implement fully now, see, the man really wants things to work in this country.Say it again. |

Left to GEJ, to a large extent he is sincere and has the heart to work, but the issue is he is being surrounded by foxes and vultures who don't mean well for the nation. Receiving the budget is one thing, implementation is another. Not just implementation, but correct implementation. I wish him the very best. 1 Like |

Most of those clowns in the house were actually clapping because they must have done mental calculations of how muc they may be able to grab from the whole lump sum. This time. All of us owe it as a duty to monitor this budget from passage to full implementation and use social media to expose and prosecute anyone who we find stealing from us. 1 Like |

This is the first time in the history of this country when budget is coming this early. This is the first time in the history of this country when a budget is presented with an account of performance of the previous budget in key areas. The entire NASS were impressed and clapped thunderously to the key performances on critical areas like power and NIPP power stations. Railway rehabilitation involving Itakpe-Warri, Lagos-Kano, Abuja metropolitan railway co. Inland waterways in Onitsha and ports sanitisazation, reconstruction of 11 existing terminals and award for construction of 5 new major airports innLagos, Kano, Port HarvourtAbuja and Enugu. The ongoing construction of Benin-Ore, Kano-Maidugri, Abuja-Lokoja. The president also hinted of the proposed award for rehabilitation of Enugu-PORTHARCOURT expressway The president gave details of how he is going to consolidate on these achievements with a reduction in recurrent expenditure. So many incentives for growth of local industries with zero percent duties on so many imports |

The tragedy is in fighting without a cause. You asked what are the legislators going to do with the 'extra' money. There is no extra money . The budget is a deficit budget. Higher expenditure than the projected revenue which is to be financed by borrowing. What the legislators are asking for is that the deficit gap be reduced by increasing the benchmark by $5/barrel instead of transferring the artificial excess to excess crude account which will be spent without recourse to the national assembly and at the same time borrowing to finance the approved budget. CBN and finance ministry have been speaking grammar on the advantages of saving and borrowing at the same time as opposed to the assembly stand of reduced saving and reduced borrowing. Afterall na person wey chop bellyful dey save excess. |
