I don't think Afam even wrote anything wrong. Why can't Peter Obi and Theodore Orji give Onitsha and Aba the kind of face lift we have in Owerri and Enugu? It is high time this chino11 and all his akas be warned to desist from creating divisions on sentimental grounds. Despite our differences, any Igbo man has rights to comment on another Igbo State. All Igbos are not proud of the state of our key cities and demand infrasructural revolution without sentiments. We don't need to relax because our cities are better than lower standard cities. We should aspire Hong Kong, London, Dubai, Cape town and at least Nigeria's Abuja and Lagos. Imagine if the roads constructed by Akpabio in Uyo were in Onitsha or Aba with the buildings repainted and well kept.

In Cairo, the Egyptian capital they have something similar. Most of their residential areas are sky scrapers.

And as far as I know, many of the towns and cities in Nigeria do not have restrictions on how high up the buildings can go like places in Cairo(from what a former co-worker told me of the place), so I don't see the sense in bringing Cairo into this.

20 years ago, the trend was 3-6 storey buildings. 20 years later, the trend is still 3-6 storey buildings in the same towns/cities across Nigeria. No need to go "WOW" over this now.

enugu does...some other state does. U cant raise even a two storey building in some part of enugu,in other parts u can go as high as u want. Similarly,u cant build residential house in some places. It all boils down to planning.

Governor Peter Obi has officially laid the foundation stone of the multi-billion naira Anambra State Hotel and Convention Centre, Onitsha. The facility is one of the multiple development projects to be sited in the area. He announced that before the end of the year government will also lay the foundation stone for an international shopping mall in the area. According to the Governor, other similar shopping malls will also be built in Awka and Nnewi.

Performing the function, Governor Obi said the project was part of the initiatives to restore the glory of the commercial city and attract back businesses as well as generate employment. He said the projects would provide suitable facilities for investors and others visiting the State.

The Governor disclosed that measures have been initiated to boast power supply to the State to fast tract industrial development and enhance socio-economic activities.

The traditional ruler of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe observed that it was the first time such project is being sitted in the area as is happening in many parts of the State and commended the Governor for maintaining his tempo of development in all sectors under Governor Obi and urged the people to take steps to ensure sustainability.

On why the foundation was just laid even when the building has reached the 4th floor, the Commissioner for Local Government, Mrs Azuka Enemuo said that all attempts to lay the foundation earlier was not possible as the Governor maintained that such acts were mere ceremonies and that what mattered most was that work was going on.

Speaking later, the Transition Committee Chairman, Orumba North, Mr. Emeka Aforka said the Governor had created enabling environment for tourism to thrive and enjoined the organized private sector to take advantage of the opportunity.

Also speaking, the Transition Committee Chairman, Anocha Local Government Council, Mr. Emeka Chijioke said the hotel would further raise standard in the city and generate employment.

By d way, nice work going on at the GRA onitsha project...dats a massive project! Hope it will be completed on schedule

I saw Anambra State Univ. Teaching Hospital(ANSUTH) under construction @ Awka. Kudos to Obi administration. Though it's not an architectural masterpiece, but it's a light years ahead of the glorified general hospital called NAUTH @ Nnewi. I will try to snap pictures of it next time.

Work is also ongoing @ old Enugu-Osha rd. from Nkpor to Awka. Even though the quality of the work is below standard. It is still a welcome development and a step in the right direction. I noticed that most of the heavy vehicle ply that route to avoid expressway, which is in a very poor state.
I commend Obi administration for their effort. Though I'm not Obi's fan.

Anambra State Government has taken delivery of three life ambulances and hospital equipment that filled two trailers donated by the Emma-Bishop Okonkwo Foundation for three hospitals in the State. The benefitting hospitals are St. Charles Borromeo Specialist Hospital, Onitsha, Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital Nnewi and Iyi-Enu Hospital Ogidi. Governor Obi received the vehicles and equipment at the Helipad of the Governor’s Lodge.
