Ecclesiastes 9:5,6,10....

5 For the living know that they will die,
but the dead know nothing;
they have no further reward,
and even their name is forgotten.
6 Their love, their hate
and their jealousy have long since vanished;
never again will they have a part
in anything that happens under the sun.
10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with
all your might, for in the" realm of the dead",
where you are going, there is neither working
nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.

This scripture has to do with the human body. At death the body knows nothing. But the sprit which is the real person is conscious he is dead .

The dead know they are dead .

Luke 16:22-24
And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and that he was carried away by the angels into Abraham's bosom: and the rich man also died, and was buried. 23 And in Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am in anguish in this flame.

The spirit(breath of life) returns to GOD.......

The spirit is not a person,rather it is the breath of life.......
