kitty kat: U can work in other field apart from oil and gas. Eg coca cola, lever bros and similar. I am better withh advising u on O and G, since that's my field.

please do take a look at my linkedin profile, and lets connect there.

I would also like to know which area you would advice me to concentrate on.
Knowing that the oil and gas sector is varies in specialisations

Note: link is on my signature

Its very easy to get a job in d oil and gas industry. Just make sure u r studying something that u like. Cos anyone can work in the oil industry. Don't study a course just cos u want to get into the industry cos when u get in, u will finally become bored after u get used to all the money and gliterrati. What country are u doing ur MSc? Also not some oil companies don't really send MSc like that o cos they train u from scratch while some over send it.
That's not true oh. Getting a job in the oil and gas industry is very competitive. Maybe in your case, you were lucky to stroll into the industry, but in reality you have to be ahead of others in terms of knowledge and/or skills to get there.
I know quite a number of intelligent folks with good grades in institutions still striving to get into the industry.
This is not to say it's impossible though. I ain't discouraging any fellow here.

U r right in my case I strolled because I was adequately prepared. Its not ur intelligence, degrees and certifications that gets you the job. Its your preparedness for that particular job and a positive mindset. For everyone I know it was easy o.

Wow. You are right. It's a matter of opportunity (not always available all the time) meeting preparedness (smartness matters too). Your getting there easily means you must be a class ahead of others. I envy you....lol
Are you a technical person?

hello, i'm a mechanical engineer presently doing my service year. So far i've found it to be unrewarding careerwise, but other parts of service are quite good.
Anyways, i'm torn between the many different training institutes available i.e IPMP, PMPI, JPTS and i wish to do a training certification in project management and safety. Please which ones are accredited and recognized nationally and internationally.

I studied mech engr because I love engines and I love everything about energy, from generation to conversion to distribution. Now I'm just obsessed with mechanical equipment and the oil and gas industry, drilling in particular

Lol, I think its both, I don't want to spend too much time in the industry when I get in, and I think drilling would give me an opportunity to still do consultancy work later on. Can we chat maybe on whatsapp, BBM or by e-mail kitty?

I think the problem is orientation. He probably does not know the value of being a mechanical engineer. Yes, I have met a lot of people who in other schools hardly know anything about the oil and gas industry. But once they come in contact with me or any PTI student for that matter, we light them up in flame.

Some colleagues who came from Auchi poly changed their orientation when they stepped in to PTI. Some people study courses without knowing the benefits, values and potentials of such courses.

Okay... it is nice. I love processing--crude oil production operation.

Mostly the activities that takes place from the wellhead, flowstation and then to the terminal.

Thanks for taking the time out to view it.

Well my strengths definetely lies in IT,
So am more inclined towards, Process/Piping Engineering/Computer aided engineering
Right now i really want something on the field, not an office based role.
due to the fact that i want to get into a project management role in future.
A role that brings different challenges each day, where i have to apply my knowledge and experience
to solve challenges.

TO be realistic, a fresh graduate can only hope and pray that his dream role is handed to him,
the first focus is usually to get a Job in the industry of choice, by being prepared mentally to work in a challenging
environment like oil and gas then one can focus on specialization.

I can't say the money is not a motivation, but its certainly not just about the money.
I would hate to work where all i do is make money but have no love for what i do.

I believe that you must love what you do to put in your best, no matter how intelligent or talented you are.
