I have also seens where banger knockout was thrown at a warehouse where gas cylinder were sold - and it exploded and took down a whole three storey building back then 1997 - this lagos island own is fatal because most houses on the island are build without spaces and the fire can easily get into another building

If it is banned, then smugglers will start bringing it in through our porous boarders.
segunsd:

I'm not a fan of the deafening sound of those fireworks. Hope they can be banned in Nigeria.

Re: Massive Fire On Lagos Island. by Nobody: 11:20am On Dec 26, 2012
Waoh, this is serious, with no doubt, fireworks ought to be ban,or seriously regulated. The indiscriminate use should be banned, its just a waste of money.

shocked Why are things so difficult in this country, always one evil news or the other. Imagine, due to someone negligent or stupidity millions of naira is lost just like that.
Re: Massive Fire On Lagos Island. by naptu2: 11:21am On Dec 26, 2012
Fireworks have been banned since 1984/85, but, apart from the usual announcements every December, the ban is not enforced.

[color=soyouquotedme]More reason why I think christmas and new year celebration is overated.

Most people don't even understand or know the reason for the season.

A season of sharing, the money spent on knockout would have attracted a blessing if it had been given to the less privilege.

Now this alone will make some people homeless, bankrupt and broke.

It is well even in the well

I only saw the ban being enforced in 1984, 85 and 86. Ssince then it's the usual announcement (the unauthorised use of fireworks is illegal, defaulters are liable to bla bla jail term) , like the ones we have below, without any action being taken.
