Igbo all the way.
The only time English comes handy at home is during Bible study/Prayers.
Meanwhile, seeing the tendency of today's kids to lose the native language to English, I may have to move my kids to the east for secondary education when that time comes.

Fortunately, I'm an ardent lover of languages. Apart from speaking the quintessence Yoruba language, I speak my Ijesa dialect as if tomorrow no dey. As a businessman waiting to explode internationally, I speak French, Spanish, German, Italian and Portuguese. I speak a smattering Arabic and Hausa. Just started learning the phonetic Igbo language since I'm engaged in Imo at the moment. A choro m asu asusu igbo. Asusu Igbo di nma!

We were not brought up to speak Igbo to ourselves. We can speak it but it will sound weird. We only try it when we're in a public place and don't want other people to know what we're saying.

It's annoying right? That's how annoying i find people saying Delta Igbo instead of just Igbo. By saying kwara Yoruba, they're kind of estranging themselves from mainstream Yoruba or creating a different identity for themselves.

How about saying 'Nsukka Igbo', or 'Abakaliki Igbo', or 'Ohafia Igbo'...they are all innocent references to the Igbo dialect spoken in those parts...you shouldn't let that annoy you.

as 4 my local lang, dat is d official dialect in my home. my culture is my life. i must pass it on 2 my kids.
yea I don't doubt what u said but the thing is my gurl is in sch already though she speaks Eng/local lang she at times don't understand me when I use our dialect cos of her age so I use english, also when helping her with her home work I use Eng so we speak both langs in my houz. Am proud of my local lang all the way cos its my identity.

How many times have you heard someone saying Nsukka Igbo or Abakaliki Igbo? if you ask someone from Enugu what tribe he is from. He'll tell you Igbo. But ask someone from Asaba and he'll most likely tell you Delta Igbo. Though there are exceptions to the rule.

In my home, our local dialet is d medium of communication, we have been so used to it that we can not speak the general igbo fluently. Am frm Mgbowo in Awgu, Enugu state. I only speak English or Hausa when am talking 2 someone who is not my family member.
