50. Àádọta 60. Ọgọ́ta 70. Àádọ́rin 80. Ọgọ́rin 90. Àádọ́run 100. Ọgọ́run That's as far as my knowledge goes. Above hundred I just use the simplified system, because it's too difficult, and I haven't learned it yet. 101. Àpò kan ati kan. 110. Àpò kan at'ìdì kan 123. Àpò kan, at'ìdì méjì l'ẹ́ta 600. Àpò mẹ́fà (You get it). At'/ati means "and". 1000. Ẹgbẹ̀rún or ọ̀kẹ́. I will leave those translations to someone else. Taking a break for a while. BUT LOL, I have to comment on this one: 8.) Mo creati tiredi, mo gbagbe. Joo, maabinu simi smiley Creati tiredi (at least the person tried, hehe) Anyway, it isays I forgot to create a/the thread. Please don't be mad at me. |

Idowuogbo:Ooooooh, course. I didn't think of the "al" prefix, which means seller/owner. Now it makes sense. Thanks Also, for you Eze. Ọgọ́rùnún (100) you can just drop the last (ún). I noticed that the first pair of numbers I wrote in this thread, I'd forgotten to do it. Same with all the other numbers with two "un" sounds. But you can use both forms, as I do. |

Re: Yorubas, Please Help Me Translate These Words. by StarFlux: 1:07am On Jan 25, 2013 |
abeg, pls understand that there are many dialects on this forums that I have problems with and slang. I would rather leave it to someone that can give the right translations. And I am only at beginner level in Yoruba. Numbers you learn fast, learning the language itself takes much longer. 1.) E ku ojumo eyin eeyan mi, a'a jiire bi? Everyday greetings my people, did you wake safely/are you well? 2.) A ku ibere tireedi tuntun, tireedi yi a san wa s'owo,a san wa s'omo, a san wa si aiku baale oro Greetings to the new thread, in this thread we better come by money, we better come by children and prosperity. (Somewhat vague translation, can't put it right in english. 50% chance of it being wrong. San can also mean pay. s' for si which means to not by. Again, I'm mostly guessing here). 4.) mo ki gbogbo yin oo I greet you all. 6.) o to jo meta, nibo lo sa lo lati ojo yi? It has been a long time. Where have you been to this day? You see, this is a perfect example of why I prefer a Yoruba person to do the translation.. It is better to leave it to someone else. O to jo meta - I know only the "O pe jo meta" version. One word can make a huge difference. 7.) tireedi tun tun grin se a ma fa party ni, abi? New thread. We will have party, right? 8.) mo creati tiredi, mo gbagbe. Joo, maabinu simi smiley dis one na to funny lol ^^ I created a thread which I forgot. Please, don't be mad/upset at/with me. 9.) Mo wa pa o. mo wa n bi, iwo lo ti ssalo I am well. (Not sure about the rest) 10.) Se i un ara ule wa, topsy nko? No chance on this one, but giving it a try. Since I see ara here which means body, and ule, which I think is from dubule (sick in bed) or orule (roof) I am going to assume it simply is a question of how someone or Topsy is doing (since nko - how is). |

Thank you once again, Starflux, i'll always remain grateful to you for this. I wan't you to know that learning from beginners is the best way to learn anything you want to learn, I'm okay with the guess work. I also wished the Yoruba speakers would come to my aid, still hoping for them to arrive. |

Note that it's easier translated when spoken, as many of the words weren't properly spelt. 12. It's been long i've been looking for that guy. 13. Our enemies shall continue to be stingy, even till death. 14. Good to see you at home, my people. 15. I've been a sharp person for long. 16. I'm not an hypocrite. 17. Nobody can tell me that it's fish that's contained in sardines. 18. My fans are numerous. Festive period is around the corner. 19. Good morning to everybody here. 2O. Happy praying. No number 21. 22. Dominic, for the past one day, my husband has not touched me. 23. He doesn't touch me at all, and you know body's not wood. You're useless. Goodnight my friends. 24. (no word for pafati, must be a name), you've come again, right? 25. Same as number 12. 26. Segun and Bisi, part two. 27. Goodday to everyone here. 28. Don't mind that guy that speaks rubbish, how's it? 29. It's been a while, hope you're in good health? 3O. Happy resting to everyone here. 31. Good evening. Happy resting. 32. Good evening my people, hope all is going well? 33. Long time. 34. Don't let me enter the city. 35. Is the city small or very big? 36. Is it as beautiful as Washington DC? 37. Bisi, when will you stop saying rubbish, this year's coming to an end, you know? 38. The day of death is the day of rest. 39-48 are same as 13-23 49. Other part of number 23. |

50.) Jeka ma dorawa |
Re: Yorubas, Please Help Me Translate These Words. by StarFlux: 10:29pm On Jan 26, 2013 |
It's nothing to apologize for. It is actually very hard for me to read what is written on this forum as well, often I just give up. Because dialects where certain words/a letter differs, and incorrect spelling + ellision just makes you completely unable to see what it's supposed to mean. Like this "ekugbadure". There's a good chance that (if it weren't for never_say_never) I wouldn't be able to know the meaning. In my case, it would be written like this: E ku gbadura, or the other version E ku gbadure. So lot's of ellision that makes it hard for untrained eyes and ears to see the meaning, even if you know most of the words. Also, the lack of tonal marks can be a problem when prounciating these words. I will try to write with tones mostly, but it's a long process to include all the tonal marks. |
Re: Yorubas, Please Help Me Translate These Words. by neversaynever(m): 11:04pm On Jan 26, 2013 |
You're welcome, it's nothing really. @ starflux, what i've noted is that many words are better understood when said than written & most words aren't pronunced the exact way they're written e.g. 'Good morning' is 'eku owuro' but it's mostly pronunced 'ekaaro', 'Have you eaten'? is 'se o ti jeun' but pronunced 'so ti jeun'. Anyway, answer to your question is 'It shall lead us to money, children & continuity in that thing that makes you progress (there might be a better explanation for that though). @ eze promoe, funny no. 5O you got there, but i think you already know the answer. |

Tolexander: guy! You aren't serious. You understand yoruba, you are only pretending. To be sincere with you, before I joined this forum, I don't know A in Yoruba. All these words I'm bringing is copy and paste. I don't understand any of them. NEVER SAY NEVER, I Know that it would sound funny, that's why I want the translation. Somebody used it to make fun of me when I asked him to teach me how to greet in Yoruba. |

Eze I would be more than willing to post all I know, the problem is that it takes so much time. I wish more people would contribute! Another problem is that a lot of the Yoruba you see on this forum is the bastardized Yoruba/English version. Maybe you can look up Seunfly, he is very good in Yoruba and helped me to complete my Yoruba exam. |
