Learning should take place in an atmosphere where children feel non-threatened, comfortable and able to take risks. Teachers and school administrators work hard to produce stimulating, welcoming environments for students, and color can play a large role in those choices.

Affects of Color on Learning

Color affects the attitudes of students and teachers, their sense of time and their attention spans. In one study cited by hertzfurniture.com, warm colors were stimulating, bringing about increased blood pressure and heart rate, but cool colors promoted the opposite: lowered heart rates and relaxed muscles.

Classroom Colors

In general, warm, bright colors are recommended for elementary classrooms, says Frank H. Mahnke in the book "Color, Environment, and Human Response." Primary colors like red, yellow and orange foster a learning environment that will stimulate the brain.

Cool colors are recommended more for middle school and high school classrooms. Shades of blue, green and purple have more of a relaxing effect that will help students focus.

Variations

Different colors might be beneficial at different times. Even though warm colors are recommended for elementary classrooms to stimulate learning, there are times when young children also need to focus and concentrate, such as in the reading corner. The same might be true for middle school and high school students who need to be stimulated at times.

The best mix might be an atmosphere that incorporates a few different colors in different areas of the room. For example, the walls in the reading corner might incorporate more light blues and greens to promote a more relaxed atmosphere while the main wall of the classroom could be a warmer shade of yellow or orange

This goes to show how spoiled this generation is. I mean seriously ?
Some of our parents studied under trees and inside half completed rooms.yet they turned out to be very bright students and went on to become brilliant minds in the society.
Here in the usa, some spoiled brats study under the best conditions; with the walls of their classrooms painted just right.they even have laptops and Android gadgets, yet they can't write,or spell right. they drop out of school all the time.
