@toni o
thanks, u reply was extra insightful. means when u apply for the canadian visa, u'll also submit ur passport and they'll hold on to it for as long till they give u a visa, methinks that pretty mean. what if one has to do something that requires your pasport then on the average , how long does it take to obtain a canadian visa?
methinks i'll just settle for US and apply as soon as I get my I20. I ll appreciate the draft of a sponsor letter from any one who has succeeded in securing a visa with a sponsor whose not related to u. pls forward to gongogoso@gmail or paste here for all to gain.
thanks and cheers

it is necessary to have a sponsor. Given that PhD fees are usually not extremely high, you need to have one, if just to prove you are not dependent on the scholarship to go through, AND that you have sufficient ties to Nigeria that will enable you return.

Two things are important : showing you can afford to pay your fees. Your sponsor will be required to sign an affidavit showing that he/she will pay for your expenses over the duration of study with a seal/stamp as explained by chi-jewel and teach-me.

In addition, you need to show you have ties to Nigeria, e.g you are married, have landed property or are clearly intending to return to work in Nigeria.

Have you been denied visa application at the United States embassy, Canadian embassy, South African and other shengen country’s embassy in Nigeria? Well you might have been denied because of several reasons you failed to consider. Getting a visa in any for any of the above countries is not difficult as it seems to be and even though people tend to say that if you apply as a student you stand a lot of chances in getting your visa but we all know that theses embassy officials are very tricky and unpredictable when it comes to issuance of visa. The most secured way to get visa apart from a business travel option is by applying as a government official or partner
We have been monitoring posts and comments on this forum, talked to a lot of visa agents and their promises all though most of them have kept their promises and actually gotten the visa for people, still majority still find it difficult in getting a visa for united states, Canada and the major shengen countries without asking people to apply for school first or some hotel reservation online and stuff like that. The truth is that getting a visa is easy if only you have government backing, and the government backing we are talking about here is full documentation and verification so the visa usually issued here is business/courtesy which is better than a visiting visa because of the limitations that accompany a visiting/family visa.
Document procurement should not be fake because nobody will give you a visa because the embassy will definitely verify especially when the government is involved.
Are we offering anything? Yes we are! We are offering you a guaranteed visa for America, Canada, south Africa, shengen and any other worthwhile country excluding UK and Dublin because we no longer have government back up for those countries and better still if you apply as a student in UK or Dublin you might stand a chance of getting a student visa.
We give 98 %( we don’t like to overstate our promises, but visa is easy to get from us) assurance for our visa because they are backed up by a state government in the south west (not Lagos state government)

Please note that all the visa applications are with appearance since it is from the government appearance is necessary and don’t be afraid because you will be given it is just a formality and precaution against world terrorism.
Do you need more information or enquiry? Don’t hesitate to call. Please no text messages flash or call me backs. It is advised that you call with your personal phone number and not a business center so that if we notice a missed call we could get back to you but not immediately.

Hello house!
I work in a reputable organisation and have had d intention 2 further my studies by doing an M.sc or PGD in canada. I hav gotten an acceptance letter from dis college, george brown college, ontario 2 b precise 4 sept admission bt i have been kinda confused on hw 2 go about my admission cos of d present exchange rate, and d deadline 4 tuition fee payment is may 1st 2009. Bearing in mind d present dollar-naira exchange rate, i almost lost interest when i received d acceptance letter n calculating my tuition in naira. bt on reading chi-jewel posts i am considering putting my application thru 2 d embassy b4 may 1st without paying my tuition fee(pending wen dollar-naira xchange rate will be favourable) . bt my fear is dat wont d embassy take dat against me(nt paying tuition )?I will like the house 2 giv me more insight on hw u 2 go about the visa application. My father will be my sponsor(though retired), necessary docs 2 submit? shd i go ahead n send thru courier or drop-box? wat do u think? i need ur advise asap. thanx buddies!!

dont u eva pay your skool fees without getting your visa cuz u paying it does not mean u will get the visa. My cuzzins that all came here last year to study, neva paid their skools fees until the day they were leaving Nigeria to Canada.

Please, apply for the visa 1st. The school will understand cuz u are coming as an international student and they are aware of the visa palava.

George Brown is in the heart of Downtown Toronto,

good luck with your visa

They said i didnt show i was a bona fide student, I didnt show i had enough funds and that i wouldnt come back to naija.
I didnt include my original admission letter at 1st so i did that
i also got a bank reference letter and a notorized affidavit of sponsorship to show that i had funds and a board resolution cos i am using a company account.
And then i added my job employment letter and leave application letter for the ties to naija

@ Chi-Jewel,

Thanks for the information, i experience the same thing as well. can you send me a sample of the leave application letter you added. was it given by the company. Also did your admission letter carry the information unconditional on it. I included my offer letter original copy, but was told the same thing. wonder why?

my email address is david.omale@epicatlantic.net.

Hoping to hear from you soon.
Re: Travelling To Canada by tonio2: 3:52am On Apr 02, 2009
Sometimes its hard to figure why the visa was denied cos it seems the reasons they often give are stereotyped and the same for almost everybody, but there is no harm in reviewing your application repackaging it and applying again. As for the work exp, i dont think it counts in your case cos @ 21 there isnt much work you wld have done to cover your tuition fees, i guess you may have to show stronger proof that your sponsor is related to, capable and willing to sponsor you
DONT pay your tuition fees without a Visa, it is NOT a guarantee! i advice you to defer your admission maybe till fall 09 or winter 10 so that you can sort things with theCDHC before then, cos i assure you the embassy are never in a hurry. wish you the best in your application

Re: Travelling To Canada by Nobody: 8:58am On Apr 08, 2009
Nairalanders!
pls how long does it really take the CDHC to process a canadian study permit.
They've been holding on to my passport now for well over a month and still not a single call from them to either me or my sponsor.
I actually need my passport for some other things urgently and the school resumes first week of June.
I learnt from different sources that they could reply immediately with a refusal if an applicant decides to call them up.
Do they always wait until after a month long before they call an applicant up for interview or medical examination?

Ahh guys, pls lets not let this thread die, where are all the veterans at?? Canada i guess,
Re: Travelling To Canada by tonio2: 4:44am On Apr 13, 2009
Kennis, it is very clear that u have not been following this thread, at least you should try to read thru before you ask your question cos its likely that you'll come across similar cases as yours and find the solution.
Also are u sure you filled out the appl forms yourself? cos if u did, it is clearly stated that it takes 3 months to process a study visa and CDHC wouldnt entertain early release request for documents. in reality it takes 4-5 months depending on the time of application

You see, many people in their desperation to get a visa dont even take time to look into simple details, the canadian study permit appl is quite straight forward and can be done entirely by anyone that can(and wishes to) read and write! I wonder why people continue to be misguided and pay heafty amounts to agencies and so called' visa specialists'
Anyway, wish u the best in ur appl

Re: Travelling To Canada by kolade5: 3:51pm On Apr 19, 2009
Hi Highlanders,

I have really missed a lot from this kinda forum, i registered here some years back but did not know what usefulness it was until now, lol smiley, i wish i could have followed this kinda tread, maybe my previous Visas wouldn't have been denied.

I have the same problem people are talking about on this issue, that is
1. I am not a bonafide student angry
2. I will not return to Nigeria. embarassed

I used a sponsor who was not so related to me the first time and also my dad but I was refused Visa, maybe cos the major sponsor wasn't related to me.

I changed my Passport from the old one to the new one (E-Passport) and re-applied, there was an issue on my previous passport, my date of birth was wrong on it (just the year) but i wasn't so concerned about that cos i think it means nothing and when i got the E-Passport, i had the date of birth changed to the correct one.

I re-applied with the E-Passport and did not include the old passport and i did not also state that i had applied before (sort of File Number) and i received a call bearly 2 weeks after submitting my application, someone telling me she's calling from CDHC and asking if i had another passport and i LIED i had non.

Days later, i got my package returned back to me, I was refused based on the two reasons above but they added one more, that they are not satisfied I have given true information which i know I haven't.

I want to re-apply now as my school is resuming in September but i had lost the Old Passport and am using the E-passport now.

Now i have some questions which I'll want the Nairalanders to please give me advice on.

1. What documents should I submit with the formal documents I've submitted previously?
2. Should I include a letter from a Lawyer telling them that I had an error with my date of birth on the formal passport and I had to change when the new E-passport is out or i should just write the letter by myself?
3. Since i have lost the old passport, will they believe it is lost?
4. What are the major things I'll submit to prove that I am a bonafide student and that I will be returning to Nigeria after the completion of my studies?

I hope i will have answers to this questions soon cos i will be submitting my application probably nxt week.

You may reply me here or email me at kolade5@yahoo.com.

Thanks Ya'll

guys, really need help. want to apply as a student but cant afford the fees. I qualify for the federal skilled worker category now with 67 points (french at 6/cool. My course starts in january 2010 and here is my dilemma - i want to apply for canadian permanent residency now, hoping it will be processed before december and i will have my PR card; i will then go to canada and pay local fees. But if the permanent residence application is refused, then i will not be granted study permit as i have what they call "dual intent" and immigration intent - proving that i will come back to nigeria becomes difficult. so dear people of naira land, do you advise me to apply for the permanent residency now and take the risk, or to just muster enough money for the masters program.
