AS Lagos State University (LASU) concludes arrangement for its 18th convocation ceremony, the Vice Chancellor, Professor John Oladapo Obafunwa, has assured that “never again in the history of LASU will unsigned certificates be an issue.”

Speaking at a briefing in Lagos on Tuesday, Obafunwa pledged that graduating students would henceforth collect their certificates on the convocation ground, once they had been cleared by their faculties.

According to him, collection of certificates on convocation day is a global benchmark which his administration “is working assiduously to uphold.” He said: “With the concerted effort of the university management, the issue of backlog of certificates is gradually becoming a thing of the past, never again in the history of LASU will unsigned certificates be an issue. At the last convocation, over 27,000 certificates was signed and released, this year 11362 has been signed. With consistent effort, in two or three years’ time backlog of certificates would have been reduced to barest minimum if not entirely cleared”.

Obafunwa announced that the award of first degrees, diplomas and certificates would take place on February 20, while February 21 has been slated for the award of higher degrees.

Of the 11,362 graduating students 3,695 are full-time; 4465- external system; 287 –Diploma and 2915-higher degrees.

Twenty one will be graduating with the First Class grade; 1106 had Second Class upper division; 5,341 made Second Class lower division; 1592 made the third class, while 88 had ordinary pass.

The convocation lecture, titled: “Quality Assurance and the Challenges of Mandate Delivery in Nigerian University,” will be delivered by the Executive Secretary of National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Julius Okojie, on February 19, he revealed.

Obafunwa commended Senators Remi Tinubu and Ganiyu Solomon for presenting a Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) grant of 108 million naira to the university, pledging that it would be judiciously expended.

So proud of a very good friend of mine who is among the 21 students. She made a 'strong' first class for that matter o , the second person to graduate with such in that department since the first graduating class in 1988 or so(first 1st cass graduated just 2 years ago). Academic excellence will always remain an achievement anywhere. Best wishes to them and the other graduates as well...including 'senior' alumni like me

Am so happy for my skul,its now a very new Lasu and congrats to d graduating students.

they even tried this year .. Last year when lasu convocated 3sets, out of over 27000 that graduated only 41 bagged first class meaning 13first class each for a set.. Mod if nah unilag now , una go don put am for front page... Kindly put this thread on the front page...

this is a new era and a land mark achievement as number of first class in the citadel keep increasing every year... In the year 2009, it was 4 first class, year 2010 --- 2012 , it was 13first class each of the year and this year the number of 1st class increase to all time highest ever produce in the citadel which stood at 21 ... Kudos to prof obafunwa...

No mater what every individual graduates with, the greatest person in future may not rely on certificate, certificate should always be the last resort and not result after all effort have been put through to achieve success first without certificate

i remember when i was in level 3 , the nos of 2.1 students at the of the session were 98 out of 242 which was the highest ever in the history of any dept in lasu (dept of accounting)))))).. The hod was very because it is strange to have that large nos of 2.1 students since the normal norms was usually at most 25 second class upper every year in the dept.. He vowed to reduced the nos of 2.1 by the time we graduate... At the end , they sucked our cgpa in final year in which nos of second class upper were reduced frm 98 to 60.. It only God that saved me (frm 3.9 in level three - 3.67 )... To bag 2.1 in this citadel na war

Lasu is one of the worse university in Nigeria when it come to part time program.5yrs program will take 6 or 7yrs. And 2 or 3yrs later no certificate or statement of result. Lasu has destroyed a lot of pple career. SO PAINFUL. They teach mgt and the can manage themselve. Pls spread this news
