imperiouxx:You don't seem to understand. The room is empty, and I can't sleep on the bare floor. I've signed the lease but I haven't paid for it yet. The house is on the bus route but where I'm presently staying isn't even close to school but very far and I don't even know how to get a bus to school from here and my host doesn't have a car plus its a very long walk to where I can get a bus.... I'm even falling sick, I woke up with fever this morning and been in bed since. Couldn't even do anything today How do I even open a bank account cos I've been carrying close to $10,000 in my purse ever since I came, and if I ever get robbed I'll loose everything. Settling down is one big problem for me here |

flynbird: Sorry to hear this. I will suggest moving to dorm (I stayed in the dorm first 2 and half month I got here). After you know your way round, you break the dorm's agreement and move out to the new place. Schools will always give you your balance back. Open account with wellsfargo nothing will be asked than your passport and student ID but that sum is too much to start with without showing some papers. Best is save some and pay the remaining to your student account. Don't come back tomorrow to tell me something went wrong with the money o. 1 Like |

flynbird:You should get a letter from your school's international student office identifying as a student which you would use to open your bank account. Also you can try buying a money order...which is like a cheque so when you open your account you can pay it in. The money order can be gotten from post office or grocery store ( I think Walmart does it). You need to fight that fever so that you are in full force for classes...back to my first week assignments. |

herawesomeness: Please house, does anyone know where I can get Tdap vaccination in naija? Not DTP or DTap o!.... Tdap (tetanus, diptheria, pertusis) the one time dose u take after d age of 18. GSK is saying they dnt have it in naija. Pls help. You already did Tetanus vaccination as a baby. If you still have your green immunization card given to you as a baby, check it. You'll see it there, together with measles vaccination, polio vaccination, and I think Diptheria too. I'll check my green card in the morning. The only vaccinations you might have to take are chicken pox, yellow fever, and the MMR(Measles, Mumps, Rubella) 3-in-1 vaccine. This is where you'll be given the popular yellow card after these vaccines are administered. You then do the Tuberculosis skin test(called Mantoux test). As for the MMR vaccine, it isn't popular as such in Nigeria and is only taken on demand/request. Note that not all schools want all these vaccinations. They specify necessary ones and optional ones. For my school, only the MMR vaccination and TB skin test were mandatory, and they were the ones I did. Every other vaccination were optional. Look for the mandatory ones and do them. Cheers. |

Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part4 by bigfrancis21: 1:37am On Sep 04, 2013 |
imperiouxx: That is because they want to make sure that you're not a moving plague of viruses coming into their country with a truck load of infections to infect them. On a more serious note, they strongly encourage that we do the medical tests in our home countries because it is much more expensive to do them in the US. Take the TB skin test for example, I did the test for only N500 in Nigeria while the same test costs $65(or N10,500) in the US, as stated on my school's Health Centre page. The MMR vaccine costs about N3,000 to take in Nigeria while it costs the same $65 in US. That is a total of $110(N21,000) compared to just N3,500. |

bigfrancis21: US of all places. Diseases?! looooooooolz. This is an inoculating chamber where the free walks out blessed if care is not taken. Well, they try to eradicate all forms of transfer of African endemics. It's not only on medical tests. Healthcare is gold here. I'm still paying a General hospital $907 for X-ray. |
