Ode. You need power and uninterrupted power supply to pump out water non stop. No power, no water.

The blame for your water nonsense still belongs to your federal government...
interesting...so the people that built the water project couldnt build power plants to supply power to the water pumps...funny people! Blame your own inefficiencies on the federal govt.very convenient.you spend billions to build water projects but conveniently forget to power it...clowns!

lol @ ignorant and lack of relevant history half backed Nigerian. Let me school this ignorant villager.

1. Iju water works was built in 1910 and it functioned properly till your unless and incompetent federal government took over with lack of attention and maintenance.

2. who do we blame for lack of electricity in Nigeria to power basic infrastructures like water supply.? lagos state government or the federal government? That was a very retard.ed and ignorant statement in your part.

3. It was against the law of your shortsighted country to build or operate power plant so either way, your useless federal government still shoulders the blame ...

4. Lagos state government recently built their own power power plants to power the major water works unfortunately with money and resources they couldn't save to spend on other essential social services instead of spending it to get around the federal governments obligations. This is what they call undue burden.

You are a perfect replica of the dumb and ignorant clowns running the country, yours is even worse because you represent zero hope, sadness and doom for Nigeria.

boron10: Private company is the way forward, although there is the possibility of paying through our nose within the first few years of their taking over the distribution of power. cool

Are people not paying through their nose already? Or do you mean 24 hours or light using generator will be cheaper than 24hrs of light from private companies? People will pay for what they use and industries will have the chance to grow while new one will spring up.

Also, investors will be more interested in investing in the country. Think of all the difference good electricity can do to Nigeria. Farmers and market sellers can preserve their fresh food. Many Nigeria companies can go digital. Services will be easily reachable. Hospital equipment will have power to operate them. So many things i cannot even name.

A lot of Nigerians are still living in darkness. Look at Nairaland, the majority of Nigerians here are based abroad, Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and few from other cities. Why, because of lack of electricity.

ZUBY77: Dear Lagos state,
The federal govt is trying to privatize these things for effective management. Why would it sell it to another govt establishment?
Govt regimes are bound to change every four or eight years in every state. How do you plan to transit from the current govt to the future one especially when it comes to these structures. No, we want it in the hands of individual companies .

I will not be surprised when the bigots turn this into ACN vs PDP

You are right on point.
Point of correction: the power project in Rivers state was not funded by the federal govt, but a partnership btw the state and private investors.

If Lagos state govt is so efficient in managing public utilities, perhaps they should explain to us why they failed in the Emron power project during "Mr Lagos" (Tinubu's) tenure. Billions of dollar went into private pockets in the process.

Perhaps the federal govt's refusal to sell to Lagos is the likelihood that the projects may later end up as part of Tinubu's business empire.

ramaju: I know the plan. Sell it to Lagos State and Tinubu will buy it from them at high discounted low price.

Okija_juju:

Actually, Rivers State government is building alot of sub-stations in preparation for an aggressive move to remove Rivers State from the National grid.

@ Topic: I dont think it is wise for Lagos State government to buy any distribution companies.. Even the issue of the National Theatre sef, Fashola should remember that he would not be in power forever. He may be full of zeal and will but I doubt we would be able to say that for his successor. Rather than clamour to buy it outright, a system whereby a 40/60 ownership can be arranged with a private firm would be good. maybe even sell shares and stuff like that. But whatever it is, I don’t want Government to be involved in anything other than administrative work.

where are the new sub stations situated in Rivers state??

tspun: instead of calling a meetin with all d governors to takle d issue of power u want to fight fed govt alone bcus u think u r too special. Rubish

one has to do what he can within the confines of his knowledge, fashola is a smart man and that wisdom is evidently lacking in theodore orji, how do you expect a wise man to put heads together with a block head??

i Will like the lagos state Govt or Residents of lagos state to have minority stake in these very important infrastructure, always clamoring for foreign investors are not really the best.

if not for anything, the role of the private sector in Iranian sanctions could have been an eye opener for us.

Reference:

Are you talking about micro or macro generation scales because the only advatage solar power has is scale (you can generate any amount of power you wish). The downsides are just too many. If it was that attractive carbon-fuels, nuclear and other renewables will have gone extinct by now.

I understand your perspective, but I would actually have to somewhat disagree. I think it more so has to deal with lack of knowledge and familiarity. Purchasing the raw materials for the solar panels or even the solar panels themselves is cost effective in a country like Nigeria because of the lack of access in the first place and over time the installation would more than pay for itself. Solar energy implementation is becoming more and more affordable everyday. On a micro scale, you could technically construct a solar panel energy system yourself, but I doubt how many people would want to bother with that and user error is a problem; however, it would foster greater community responsibility on power generation. On a macro scale, it is by no means impossible if you standardize production, installation and upkeep, which it would be easy to train people to do. However the biggest profits are mainly gained in the initial installation phase, which is a problem for some. I think it would be great to charge people an affordable flat monthly or yearly fee and then incorporate a portion of those payments into some community social responsibility initiative.

Anyways, I tend to be an idealist. I am speaking of these things with the absence of corruption in mind grin. One can hope and dream smiley smiley smiley

There are so many reasons why this country cannot stay together or we go to confederation system of Government.
The growth rate of the 3 major regions of the Africa most populous nation has been Hampered as a result of issues like this.

The South west could have grown to the level of United kingdom if it had been allowed to runs her own economy independent of the central government and that could have also spured the other regions to copy what will be happening in the south west to also develop. But putting all the power in the centre under the control of a coconut headed monkey will not lead this country to anywhere.

Lagos state is a mini Nigeria on her own, she is the home for over 20,000,000 heterogeous cultural background and origin. She provides support for the economic activities of other states in the country. If Lagos state is not contributing money to the central government and she is allowed to use all her IGR and other source of funds, it would have become a paradise in Nigeria, if only she is administered by technocrats like Fashola. But the percentage that Lagos state is contributing is share with all those BOKO HARAM states.

Only if the sycophants that surround GEJ knows the importance of Lagos state and her role in the national economy and development, and these disgruntled politicians are devoid of partisan politics, they would have allowed Lagos state to 100% generate her electricity. The Nigerian economic growths starts from Lagos state.
