Wow, surely a Dangote/Adenuga can recruit Nigerian MBA graduates or businesspeople who have experience in airline management. The billionaires would just be responsible for paying wages and other costs, no?

Let me give you a typical scenario. You fly a B747-800I half empty from Lagos to CDG, then in CDG, your pilot have a Hard Landing and Two out of the Four Main Landing Gear is scrapped instantly. Then Aircraft is towed to Hanger, and for the two Landing Gears to be replaced, you need to pay nearly $1m plus other expenses! And in two weeks time, that Aircraft goes for 3C check that would cost $30m, now tell me how many Nigeria businessmen can survive such a business with their mentality that every flight needs to generate profit, and every aircraft need to make HUGE CASH return on every trip. Also without very strong financial institutions, coupled with strong collateral, how can Nigeria businessmen finance such a business? That is the reality of Airline operations... HUGE DAILY CASH flow..

This is a FACT known by any expert in this field. Arik Air is surviving today because she's got the backing of those in power. Aero is "kissing" the grave of bankruptcy less than two years after the Dutch handed the company over to Nigeria businessmen! Go figure out. Even Tinubu's Nation Airways is crawling ...
And Slok Air is national Carrier in 4 African countries after OBJ did not grant Orji Uzor Kalu license to fly in Nigerian Skies. Listen, Nigerians have capacity to own successful airlines, it boils down to favorable business climate. Cease your blanket statements, you are too pessimist, and might destroy you and any other who listens to you.

You want to continue name calling, you are just true to type. That is what ignorant people do, attacking personalities instead of issues. You learn well from your failing regional mentors who will never make it to the center in this life and in the next to come.

It's so sad though embarassed
I guess some Nigerian businesspeople have gotten infected with the Wall Street mentality of instant profits. You are right, the prevailing mentality is that of short-term gain. Airlines such as Emirates, Singapore etc are where they are today due to long-term, strategic planning.

SLOK Air is a relatively successful airline. However, we (Nigerians) need one that can compete with the likes of BA, Etihad or KLM; at least, on the Nigerian intercontinental routes. It's bad enough that both BA and Virgin Atlantic control 90% of the traffic on direct flights between Lagos/Abuja and London.

Rome was not built in a day, successive military governments destroyed infrastructures. We are building Airports and roads in 2013, and the Airlines Intervention Fund could be there anytime. These things take time and optimism. Not slandering and pessimism. Who do we expect to come run airlines for us when someone stays on nairaland and make blanket statement like " No Nigerian businessman can run Airline successfully" ...It should be: How should I run an Airline ?

FYI, I have these information at my finger tips... I do not need google to retrieve these information. I can give you the names of the Airlines who are using those B737 previously owned by SLOAK AIR. Though it still claims to be in operations in the Gambia because their COA has not been revoked fully.

Dude get some sense please before I embarrass you once again...

You are ill-equipped to make such assertions, this is not Nigerian politics that you can always use emotion to make a statement. I say Slok is National Carrier in 4 African Countries. This is to counter your demeaning assertion that "No Nigerian Businessman can run an airline successfully". That was an insult to Nigerians both home and abroad.

Slok Air and Slok Air Gambia

Slok Air International was originally founded in Nigeria by the Slok Group. Its air operators certificate was suspended in March 2004 by the Nigerian government and the airline was subsequently dissolved in November 2004. In the same month the airline was reformed as Slok Air Gambia Limited. Service was again halted in the end of December 2007 due to maintenance and was resumed mid-February 2008, but by July published reports described financial difficulties with the airline, which continued into the autumn of 2008 with creditors filling lawsuits against the firm, seeking payments. By the end of October 2008, despite any formal announcement, press release, or news report, it was no longer possible to book flights with the airline, which had stopped flying.
Slok Air International

Once again, the airline was renamed to Slok Air International in early 2009. Flights re-commenced in February of the same year.
