I got a tecno N7 today and this is the first time I'm using Andriod. The thing is my phone managed to use up about 34MB in about 8minutes. Is this normal? If not, what should I do? I'd really appreciate your help.

Try an iPhone. You'l be amazed at how fast the MB flies!

Your own phone might be updating it's softwares though, since you said it's new, or you probably have too many applications opened. Just maybe

Root your phone then use firewall to restrict most apps auto-updating.

@luiza, downloading ates up data, porn sites are data robbers, your phone stock browser can also contribute to your problem, from your phone stock browser go to playstore download opera mini, at setting set images low or images off.
Solution download' whatever apps you desire, when you have open wifi network, most hotels have open wifi network.
Do not press back button when you want to go back to view a webpage, rather click on the tabs to view, stay less on fb,2go.
Adios

Automatic updates and background data are among your biggest data enemies.Turn them off & only on them when on wifi.

Automatic updates and background data are among your biggest data enemies.Turn them off & only on them when on wifi. And if you are not browsing at any moment turn off packet data(Settings-wireless n networks-mobile networks-then deactivate use packet data). The later is the final solution when everything else fails i.e deactivate packet data.
Re: My Phone Is Consuming Too Much Data by Nobody: 7:03pm On Jun 05, 2013
@bizmahn, I disagree, most apps upon inception to download will prompt a command update when on wifi, you choose an option, even if you tick update automatic.
Background data are apps not killed after using your device or upon start up, gps, wifi, packet data, email sync, location service disabling saves battery.
If you stock browser runs java scriptupon start up, disable it, browser setting.
