So the killings were a form of sacrifice to their god

PAGAN 9JA:
Ombatse, which means “time has come”, and which practitioners claim is a traditional religion handed to man from heaven, is a mysticism which seeks to cleans
society of sundry ills, including adultery, fornication, public theft, drunkenness, smoking, envy, killing; to pave the way for the culture of morality and chastity.

The spiritual practice which was hitherto silent, and spoken about only at whisper level, recently became bold among the people, with its leaders claiming that
heightening societal ills have provoked them into a crusade in the hope to cleanse the land.

Its day is Saturday, according to the practitioners, who have said on such days, new members are initiated, and oaths are administered to converts to cleans
them of their sins. But women are never allowed near Alogani Centre, a popular initiation area in Nasarawa-Eggon, during the cleansing ceremony, except
unmarried teenagers who are believed to be pure from fornication.

Young male converts wear black dresses and caps to match, and proud themselves as possessing native bullet proof to protect them against gun bullets.

But this expose does not any anyway put culpability on the State Governor so why are some people trying hard to blaim the Governor/ Fulani for this particular incident.

Give it a rest! A revolution in Nigeria will leave it in a worse State than Liberia, it will do nothing but breed Anarchy. Look at all the Road blocks that were formed during Occupy Nigeria, just for the purpose of robbing People.

Word has it this 'reconverting' you speak of is being done forcefully in some cases. Do you have any views on this, brethren? Assuming the account provided below holds true, are you in support of coercion?

Full disclosure: I am fairly amenable to the idea of home-grown deities by the way grin

Widows of the slain officers were still in Government House, when the two suspected cops were taken there. They expressed shock with the quantum of assorted charms they saw.

Operatives of the police, SSS and Civil Defence were ambushed at the Alakyo village, on the outskirt f Lafia, the state capital, on the night of Tuesday when they stormed the village to raid a shrine of the notorious traditional religion, CP Akeremale had said on Wednesday. He said the decision to go on the operation was taken at the State Security Council meeting, earlier on Tuesday afternoon, after allegations that Ombatse members were carrying out forced initiation of Eggon males, continued to widen in the state.

A police inspector of Eggon origin, who resides in Alakyo, was one of the recent persons forced into initiation, by Ombatse, the police boss also said. A young man has also approached the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Lafia, to formerly complain that he was tortured and compelled by persons he suspected to be Ombatse, to swear to an oath of allegiance to the deity, hours after his Muslim marriage in Lafia.

But the leader of the Eggon people, Chris Mamman, who confirmed he heard of the forced initiation of people of Eggon decent into the traditional religion, denied that Ombatse people had hands in the development.
Mamman, the National President of Eggon Cultural Association (ECDA), blamed the forced initiation on the activities of criminal elements, using Ombatse to extort other Eggon people

I personally dont think this is true because traditionalists rarely if ever resort to such means.

if its true, as the name of the religion says, people are tired. they want to get it done anyway.

I mean if its true, its sort of like tit for tat. some of The EGGON were anyways forcefully converted to islam by the Fulani herdsman of the likes of dan fodio and co. even now the Fulani are forcefully converting in Nasarawa and Adamawa.

It is because we threw away our root.
The Chinese, Japanese, etc still practise their religion of the old and they are moving forward. What have you got to say about that?
The mentality of an african is his greatest problem. We abandoned our culture & traditions to embrace foreign religions we cannot practice. For us to develop, we must go back to our roots.

Yes, there are traditionalists in china but they don't go around forcing people to drink one stupid concotion or behaving like they are mightier than the law or killing policemen. Come to think of it, this is how bokoharam started. The north really has a lot of rubbish amont it.

^^^^^^ The tradionalists in China are nor brutalized and their shrines destroyed and they be molested or converted.

this is why CHinese traditionalists dont do such things.

but Nigeria is a diffrent matter.

Get d facts right my people:
1. Eggon people have been attacked and killed continuously by the Fulanis' with d Governor doing nothing about it.
2. The Governor is sympathetic towards d Hausa/Fulanis' to d extent of harboring them in his village which serves as a launch pad for attack on the Eggon people.
3. The Governor feels threatened 'cos d people are tired of being ruled by strangers(Hausa/Fulanis) and thus resolved to hv their own true sons at the helms of affair by 2015
4. So as to stop dis the Governor feels that the best option is to silence them thru d use of mercenaries(Fulanis/Chadians&Nigeriens) and also d state apparatus(police&SSS) which could have led 2 a genocide thus silencing them 4ever.
5. Having realised that his(Governor) plans had failed; he rushed to Abuja in order to seek d sympathy of the presidency thru d vice-president who is an Hausa/Fulani by blackmailing d Eggon; falsely accusing Ombatse of forced initiation of Muslims and “Christians”so as to compel full military intervention thus finally achieving is evil plan.
6. Remember Eggon people remain d majority in Nassarawa and most of them are not Muslims or Hausa/Fulani.
7. I don't know wat the Governor is still doing in power; he should have been removed by now.
8. Goodluck must resist being used by that bloody bastard called Al-Makura 2 cause a Genocide by authorizing full military operation.
9. What has the Governor and those in authority done about previous attack on Eggon settlements by Fulani marauders?
10. In conclusion everybody has right to existence and protection of that sacred entity called "life". The Eggon people have literally lost confidence in Government and the state security apparatus as a whole thereby putting their existence on the brink of being erased thus d best option is self-defence which is what any right thinking individual/people would have done.

they steal in billions and trillions while the majority of the masses suffer - all because they know that taking an oat in the name of Allah (Koran) and in the name of Jesus (Bible) simply means "your sins are forgiven even before you commit it - therefore go home and enjoy your loot in peace - just make sure you make huge donations in construction of mosque and churches!"

If Nigerians really want this county to be good withing 4 years, let the politicians be made to swear by our traditional gods! Agballa! Aro! Ogun!Shango! Obatala!Olokun! Azhili! and various other powerful traditional gods in Nigeria - corruption and looting will disappear from our mist!

The Eggons are fighting for d soul of their state. In fact they are fighting for their independence from Hausa / fulani haegonomy. Just like d Beroms in Plateau who are in control of their own destiny d Eggons are fighting hard to dislodge d likes of Al- makura from d corridors of power foreever and i stand with them for their emanicipation. Afterall democracy is a game of numbers, if they are d majority in d state, common sense dictates they should be d ones controlling d affairs of d state.
