Liz Hodgkins was a university law student at Newcastle University in the roaring sixties. Standing at the head of a queue in the university canteen one day, she met a young drama student named John who was studying English. He was the most “handsome and intriguing looking young man” she had ever seen in her life and she fell madly and hopelessly in love with him. She pursued him relentlessly even to the point of changing her course to English so that they would be in the same department. Finally he noticed her and they started dating, well not exactly dating; more like sleeping together. He never took her anywhere or even wanted to be seen with her but she loved him so much, it didn’t matter.
