Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Dr Sam Amadi, on Monday in Abuja assured Nigerians of increased electricity generation from 5,000 to 7,000 megawatts by 2014.

Amadi who gave the assurance during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) said the increase was to meet the yearnings of Nigerians.

``By our projection, we will get up to 10,000 megawatts by first quarter of 2014, but the commission prefers to expect a much lower figure, which is 7,000.

``This is because, with what is on ground and the activities which are going on, we would have done well based on the expectations in the market,’’ he said.

Amadi also said Nigerians would soon have access to a variety of renewable sources of power, other than hydro-power generation.

``We are going to have solar and other forms of renewable power sources, because the county is making investment towards that.

``Currently, there are private firms that are licensed for solar.

``So, we believe that in the next couple of years, we should have a mixture of power source from solar, gas, hydro, wind and all that,’’ he said.

Nigeria is a nation led by comedians, followed by zombies. I cannot imagine how you keep PDP in power after 14 years of mediocrity. 14 years with nothing to show for it. You all deserve what you get from your government.

GEJs government is simply a joke. Just a few weeks ago it was 10,000 MW by december, now its 7000MW by 2014.

My biggest issue is with sympathizers of this joker of a president, they will still not see anything wrong with this. A government ALWAYS going back and forth, making empty promises, rolling out pseudo-achievements for their apologists to praise, never get anything done throughout the year.
Shame on GEJ and his supporters!

magaliyu: They wan take style reduce the 10,000MW promised to 7,000MW.

and then will implement 4, 600mw, give the attack dogs a bonus and their shout will be that GEJ met 1800mw and has moved it to 15000mw BUT the "opposition" reduced it to 7000 and transmission network can only handle 4600mw so another 16bn is required for "transmission" which will be ready June 1, 2015

Rubbish

Even if we attain 7,000MW by then, it will still be massive. The ministry is aiming at a higher target (10,000MW) by year end while the regulator (NERC) is being very conservative in its expectation. Whether 10,000 or 7,000MW is attained, the biggest challenge remains distribution and transmission. The privatisation of the DISCOS will be a very big relief to the system. However, transmission system still requires massive govt investment

Anybody expecting GEJ to solve the power problem is deceiving himself/herself. El retardo might be clueless but whatever strides he makes in the power sector should be applauded.

The "foundation" of our power sector is structurally defective and would take years to fix. Although if the PDP government had started since 1999, we should have made some serious progress

OMG!!! 7,000 MW is massive? What kind of sick joke is this?

As an Electrical Engineer, let it be known that even 4,000 MW isn't enough for the whole of Lagos State based on the current population density available...

In 1999 OBJ promised us about 4000 megawatts by 2001. As at today, 12 years later we are still dilly-dallying btw 3700 and 4200 megawatts.
Pikin wey dem born in 1999 don grow finish enter secondary skul o! A generation growing under the failed promises of PDP.
They say if you make an error once it can be called a mistake but if it happens to you a second time and over and over again, then it is no longer a mistake but foolishness.
This guys have proven to us that we are a bunch of foolish people. My goodness, for 12 good years and counting! How much more stupid can we get?
Abeg if not for anything lets try someone else. Haba, enough is enough!
