The opposition mega alliance under the aegis of All Progressives Congress (APC) has decided to zone the presidential slot to the North ahead of the 2015 elections.
This is the outcome of a series of meetings held between top leaders of the coalition last week where it was decided to cede the slot to the North which has been clamouring for a return of power to the region.
It was confirmed that the party leaders are, however, battling to assuage members of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) over their objection to the decision to cede the national chairmanship slot to the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).
It was learnt that ANPP leaders were originally told that the party would produce the chairman of the coalition, but this calculation was tilted in favour of ACN following Senator Bola Tinubu’s intervention.
A meeting between leaders of the Joint Committee on Merger of the parties, which was addressed by Tinubu last week, attempted to calm the ANPP as it was affirmed that the presidential slot had been zoned to the North.
The ACN national leader was said to have told the meeting that the ANPP should exercise patience till when presidential campaigns start to push for its candidate, since the position had been ceded to the North.
It was, however, confirmed that the merging parties have agreed to cede the national secretary position to the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and that former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, is in pole position to occupy the seat.

APC is going no where. After they cede the presidency to the north, they will then produce Buhari as. Presidential candidate.

as a south westerner, I can categorically say, I do not plan to vote for any northerner

I dont find the source of this news as a reliable one. Looks like the too many sensational e-huts that are brewing out news without license.
@Topic, although they might choose to cede party positions and avoid the emcumberances and embarassments of elections in Nigeria but they cant afford to take this risk of openly zoning public elective positions cos that will tell the electorate that they're not a better option. And that means nail on their coffin.
I suppose they cant be so un-intelligent.
Meanwhile, am insisting that both the Ruling and the Opposition parties should know that no matter how hard they work one can also lose the election. So we dont want any dog and baboon blood story if they eventually lose. In Political Science the definition of a credible election is not one in which opposition wins ruling party nor the other way round.
