B4 nko...who's's supposed to be the most paid...are they not the head of the team. Well, the fight isnot not just doctors by the way...its for the patients and the health sector as a whole....for God's sakes, if the residency trainingprogramme is well funded. OJB won't be flyin abroad for kidney transplant...the whole of Ogn state can't boast of a single MRI machine...this is basic care the pple reequire...

i know that many people are here ready to throw stones on doctors again, if u didn;t get it ,let me try and explain,
- the residency training programme is the postgraduate training for doctors to become specialist(consulntant) in a particular field of medicine.
-the so called specialist in Nigeria are so good in theoretical stuffs and will definitely lack some basic practical skill cos of lack of equipment
-for example we have consultant radiologist who has not seen a MRI manchine throughout his residency training,
most consultant surgeon in Nigeria could not carry out procedure using a laparoscopy manchine/techniques,of course many has not seen one before, not even there teachers, cardiothoracic surgeons in Nigeria are handicapped cos of lack of proper gadget this means if u have a surgeon fully trained in nigeria he can cope well theoretically with colleagues abroad but not in practical skills.
apart from few big centers in nigeria (uch, luth, national hospital, abuth zaria,) other upcoming centers like the FMCs and the rest even lack basic equipment and personalities. and many other problems facing the residency training programme due to underfunding
it is only when u have a better trained doctors that u can boast of good health care. i believe NARD is on the right course this time,at least its not for salary increment this time around, not atall.

STOP ALL THIS BEEF FOR DOCTORS, LETS REASON ALONG TOO. can u learn and practice farming with pen and paper only and expect an harvest?

Its quite unfortunate that Nigeria has to be going thru all ds rubbish all in the name of agitation.
Let's be realistic and be sincere, there is no association or groups that can strike because of decay in facilities or failure of government to provide amenities.
When ASUU were agitating then, they said they wanted more funding for education who did not know that is increase in salary they are asking for.
Stop deceiving poor public.
This issue of more funds for residency trainig has been on ground for long, you want increase in salary(funds)? You want government to be sponsoring your training to abroad, you want government to employ more resident doctors...these are what the fight all about. It doesn't in any sense involve equipping the hospital.
Is better you guys start thinking of how health care SYSTEM in general will be improved not fighting for your stomach alone.

#nas 0 no mind that guy... some ppl just dive into argument without thing, and worst more with biased mindsets.. to everyone reading dis post, The sole purpose of any argument is to learn to see reasons. win or lose, just make sure at the end you learn from your previous misconceptions.. so what if doctors ask for better pa? you must realize that each and every doctors or paramedics you find out there have families, sometimes families lacking personal care they have to offer, families wish secretly they quit their profession, but out of sacrifices, they still ride on. in school; No time, in service to humanity; no time... if it is psychological and intellectually easy, please go and pick a jamb form and change things into what you desire and stop nagging. Ghandi said; Be the change you wish to see in the world. when last did you visit a public hospital? most of you that come online arae much well endowed to visit private one.. see the queue, see the casualties of some loophole policies and funding... or some over crowding within wards, rapidly spreading sepsis.

Now, provide links to prove that doctors have kicked against better TRAINING of nurses or pharmacists in the past.

Since you have such a good case to put forward, let's deal with facts and not mere words smiley
Really, I don't think there's more you can do to convince them otherwise. There statements are riddled with prejudice and bias against that profession. Funny thing is that they're the ones that get to the hospital and allege delivery of poor services, even after the doctors must have given the best treatments they could muster using the limited resources. The call is about ensuring more of evidence-based, aetiologic approach to treatment in line with international best practices, the end result of which is at a better treatment standard for the patient, as opposed to the mostly empirical approach employed in low resource settings that characterise even our teaching hospitals. However you try to make 'em see, their stereotyped and jaundiced view will always reflect in their arguements. Little wonder our politicians care less, going overseas at the slightest headaches. These here are the ones that get to such decision-making positions in the future and still put forward the same retrogressive statements as they do here.

Tinoxky: Days are Gone when Health practitioners work To Serve Humanity and safe live... These days its all about money! Money!! Money!!!, when Last has it been announced that doctors when on strike because of Inadequate Equipment in the hospital? UNTIL Administrative Work is handed over to Those who Studied administration in Nigeriat hospitals, this rubbish will never Stop!
And what does agitation for improved residency has to do with the parochial interest that motivates power tussle for the position of the "hospital director in a hospital environment?"

no sector of d economy has adequate funding, my candid advice is they should make use of what has been provided and put their brains to work on hw internal revenue can be generated. Pls u doctors should avoid d avoidable. This is totally uncall for even if i dont understand in totality what u want from d govt.

From the arguments above, its evident that many people are so beefed up against drs that they've chosen to overlook the benefits of this struggle to the general populace.the reasons for the strike has been clearly stated here, all amounting to standardizing and augmenting the efficacy of the medical practice in nigeria but I'm still amazed at how people have chosen to believe what they want to believe.the last time drs went on strike due to the failure of the govt to fulfil the agreement they made about salaries, everyone criticised them saying they weren't fighting on improving the health sector and that its always about money;now they are striking 2 better the health sector and ur still critisizing them.Haba!.that is very unfair.when patients die because of lack of facilities,we blame the drs.now that they are fighting for steps for improvement,we are still critisizing the drs.in other words, drs can never do anything right in this country.that's very naïve and shallow.we all know strike is the only language the govt understands so if other sectors have chosen not to fight for improvement, stop critisizing drs for doing so.yeah,I totally agree patients will suffer the most because of the strike but a lot more patients will suffer and die if nothing is done about the present situation of the health sector and unfortunately, this is the most effective means of making such improvements in this nation.plain and simple

can you truly reward an individual for saving a life?! I am a doctor, young and still energetic. i want to be a surgeon. i have passed my primaries, but alas, no space for residency training, so i waste away doing M.O jobs, my rich colleagues just travel to the Us or Uk etc and specialize. In a country of 160 million people, less than 5 residents are taken in for a surgery residency program at a recently concluded interview. Well, the government doesnt care, they can afford to go to germany/ usa or saudi arabia for treatment. make common man hustle india or die trying.
The whole system is in shambles

when a patient is rushed to a clinic. most times, they meet a young inexperienced doctor and may have to wait 1 or 2 days before a specialist can attend to the patient, eg say he needs an appendicectomy. you cant really compare the health sector to power or water or employment, because you are talking about life and death. the others may improve if there is a nee government. but most times in cases of emergency, you only have 1 specialist to 100s of patients which is overburdening...you only need to divert more funds for the purpose of training specialists to improve the health of the citizenry. most people who go abroad see the difference, but i guess they see a lot of differences. Nigeria needs to step up, we need visionary and responsible, God fearing leaders

Its obvious this young man is one of the support staff in the hospital who blindly disagree with any agitation by the progressives to move the health system/hospital forward. All patients come to the hospital to see the doctor, all hand must therefore be on deck to make this a comfortable experience for both parties.
Nice post nas00.
Kudos NARD!
Typical arrogance of the ignorant and unexposed Nigerian doctor. Many people go to Hospital and have nothing to do with doctors; Immunization,Antenatal clinics,Physiotherapy,Speech Therapy,Psychology,Counselling,Occupational therapy the list goes on. Doctors are agitating for the government to pay for their training .Why should government do this ? Do they pay for training for pilots, engineers, accountant?,Bankers lawyers etc. Is there any obligation after the training for the doctors to serve the government ? The answer is a big NO!! The doctors in training NARD are paid salaries which together with on call allowances make them the highest paid government employees. They are the ones that should pay government for their training!!,
