when countries around the world are investing in renewable energy and developing better sources of sustainable energy.....we are driving backwards into the age of coal, which is a synonym for pollution, very funny advisers in the presidential cabinet, with no sense of reasoning. the supplus gas in the countries reserves can conveniently feed the whole nation. they should think in that direction.. 1 Like |

When a country, a country that is not a developed but a developing one, of just under 10 million people, produces well over 8500 MW, then producing 4000 MW from any kind of resources doesn't make it a huge achievement. |

Also if u read through the ministers statement, u would see that the idea is to diversify instead of relying on only one source of energy. For a country like Nigeria, we need any means of energy for now, cos a hungry man would have to feed on what he has firstly before he starts thinking of feeding on 'healthy' foods. 1 Like |

Well, It is quite a long story and it makes the reading bored most especially on a WAKE-UP news like this. We have had a lot & enough of FRAME-WORK projects & committee in this country, What we want now is a solid FOUNDATION & finished STRUCTURES of those projects, then their BIO-GRAPHS will be worth reading on the frontPAGES |

obailala: for your own information countries using coal are moving towards renewable's .if you know anything about global energy, you should know that countries are fined heavily for each metric ton of carbon produced, and thus they are trying as much as possible to step their figures down. what happened to our gas, much of it is still flared or liquefied and exported as LNG. then even with the little that goes to the gas turbines, the infrastructure to utilize them are either not available or not functioning optimally. counties are upping their hydroelectric systems, investing in fuel cells and bio fuels which we can conveniently develop with the massive presence of fossil fuels. And someone is talking about coal.if we start using coal when people are leaving it, how does that reflect on us in the international community? with the environmental effects, what legacy are we leaving for the future generation. always remember that a problem deferred is never a problem solved. being very hungry is not a good reason to eat foods that will kill you, we must change that mentality if we want to progress as a nation. 2 Likes |

jackbauersballs: From Coal?the major problem with coal isn't even the carbon, atleast we still have adequate plant plant population here to help. The major problem with coal is the sulphur iv oxide gas it spews. This gas is the major cause of the highly destructive classic smog among other health and environmental problems. China is the only country still toying with coal (and india maybe) and they are so desperate to move away from it because of what it's doing to them. Do we even have people who can advice these people on environmental matters? Or have we just been paying lip service to the issue of sustainable development? |
