Re: Review Any Movie by ExInferis(m): 12:32am On Nov 12, 2008
just watched quantum of solace, and to me its better than casino royale, sure its formulaic but i guess they were just playing it safe because you cant really have too many expectations for a Bond movie. as a convention all bond movies must be james bond-ish.

theere are some good action setpieces, heightened by the fast, taut editing, however sometimes the fast cuts do get choppy.

next serving, quarantine, then burn after reading, all in marathon mode.
Re: Review Any Movie by justkunmi(m): 1:00am On Nov 12, 2008
Didn't like Quantum very much. It was too sketchy as if it was a story we all knew before. Like we were supposed to guess what was happening. .
Dunno, but I felt a little let down. . Maybe I was expecting too much.
Re: Review Any Movie by dinozzo(m): 1:24am On Nov 12, 2008
compared to Casino Royale, did it have more action scenes.

I saw traitor yesterday starring Don Cheadle and Guy Pearce, action thriller about terrorism nothing new in it, thought it was ok, anyone seen it?
Re: Review Any Movie by KarmaMod(f): 6:03am On Nov 12, 2008

@KarmaMod
how was Rock n Rolla??
Hope it was nice. .
Its my most anticipated movie. The trailer blew me away. .(yeah i said i wont fall for nice trailers againbut wt can I do? lol)
I laughed so hard at the scene where Gerard Butler stole a car and asked the owner how to put the gear in reverse. . grin grin

Must see. . Must see. . Must see. .Rock n' Rolla that is.

It's REALLY funny but seriously there are some people I would have traded in. Snatch is my fav GuyRitchie movie and if it were up to me, the same group would be in all his movies tongue like Wes Anderson!

The thing is the story goes all over the place. Too much going on. I'll have to get it on DVD and watch it again. I will admit I didnt like Ludcaris' inclusion.

I cracked up many times though. Gerald Butler, Idris, and the real "RocknRolla" were so funny.

You'll enjoy it. wink
Re: Review Any Movie by justkunmi(m): 7:01am On Nov 12, 2008
lol. . Liked Snatch. But the crew couldn't have been the same for Rock n' Rolla.
I liked Gerard Butler's part sha. .I love that his accent and the way he talks. .lol
Lookin to see Thandie Newton too. .

Should see it this weekend anyways. .
I have a feeling I would really enjoy it. .
Thandie Newton

Guy Ritchiedon't dissappoint. .  grin

Re: Review Any Movie by KarmaMod(f): 1:59pm On Nov 12, 2008
Thandie is gorgeous, she just really needs to eat. I know UK food is crap but jeez tongue
Re: Review Any Movie by justkunmi(m): 5:28am On Nov 13, 2008
RnR bombed?? really?

Yeah, Thandie is hot!!
and i think i like her like that. . .skinny. . grin

Re: Review Any Movie by KarmaMod(f): 6:56am On Nov 13, 2008

Re: Review Any Movie by KarmaMod(f): 7:11pm On Nov 13, 2008
Cant be bothered by the whole Bond hoopla

Slumdog Millionaire comes out soon though! grin
Re: Review Any Movie by ndividual: 10:48pm On Nov 13, 2008
If you're new to the whole bond thing (or left it for a while), you'll be blown away. I was when i watched it during the weekend.

My opinion, the new Bond is better (considering it's a reboot of the franchise). I just think it strayed a little too far from what people expected from the bond series, which is good. because as far as the 21st century is concerned, a self imposed cliche laden gadget using cool guy doesn't cut it anymore, compared to your bourne inclined on-your-feet wit badass that is Daniel Craig

But seriously, if anyone takes the time to watch the previous ones again you'll either suffer from nostalgia or be coming back for more daniel craig. as for me, it's the latter.

But don't take my word for it: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/world_is_not_enough/news/1779903/bonding_with_bond_day_21_the_world_is_not_enough

Lovely movie, gotta give hollywood a pat on the back when it gets it's act together
Re: Review Any Movie by ndividual: 10:52pm On Nov 13, 2008
Oh, HAS ANYONE WATCHED BODY OF LIES? WHEN IS SILVERBIRD GOING TO SHOW IT?
Re: Review Any Movie by justkunmi(m): 8:33am On Nov 14, 2008
@ndividual
Q of S strayed too much from the whole Bond concept. They've removed what made a Bond movie different from any other movie. The fact that James Bond is a bad ass, untouchable, gadget freak intelligent man.
He says few words and when he does, they mean a lot.

But recently, from Casino Royale, they've made Bond like every other guy on the street. At a point in Q of S, I thot I was watching another Jason Bourne.
The fist fights were too much. . . Too physical. .

. . and I saw Bond driving a Ford?? wats that?
Re: Review Any Movie by Gaminechic: 10:41am On Nov 14, 2008
shocked A Ford! No way!
Re: Review Any Movie by KarmaMod(f): 3:15pm On Nov 14, 2008
Rofl Ford.

No be ford populate the UK nowadays sef. They are lowering their standards when it comes to cars
Re: Review Any Movie by debosky(m): 3:22pm On Nov 14, 2008
Those Fords are not even sold in the UK, they are strictly North American models of the Ford Edge cross overs.

I was told this was the Bond Movie with the highest amount of corporate ad placements. The famed Aston Martin only had a brief appearance in the beginning as a crashed vehicle that Bond was chased in as the baddies were shooting at him.

He did drive a Range Rover at some point, but apart from that, the bond chick drove a FIAT of all cars! shocked shocked

I think it wasn't too good a movie on it's own, too much reference to past events. Secondly, we never really understood what the "quantum" project was all about - apart from the dude trying to steal water in Bolivia. Hardly exciting in my opinion.

Another down side is that, as far as I could tell anyways, Bond never got a chance to shag the chick - why on earth is it a Bond movie then??

Very disjointed story in my view, not enough coherence in the whole thing.
Re: Review Any Movie by spikyn: 7:50pm On Nov 14, 2008
I saw Quantum and Bangkok Dangerous too.

Bangkok Dangerous owes me money, Quantum owes Jason Bourne money.
Re: Review Any Movie by justkunmi(m): 4:56am On Nov 15, 2008
debosky
Thanks jare. You are the first person out here to agree with me. The whole Bond concept was compromised in this movie. .
They drove all sorts of stuff. Ford, FIAT!!!! because of money
So it means if Daewoo had enough to pay them, Bond would drive a Tico??

And yes, we never really understood what the Quantum project was all about. We just knew there was a bad guy and there was a good guy. .and they fought.  grin

Like i said before, the fist fights were too much. The physicality was weeee too much.
Not joking, there was a scene at the beginning where James jumped onto the ledge of a building, entered a house and met a guy and they started fighting. They fought with punches, and all and James stabbed him on the neck with something and held him still till he died. .That scene was so so so Bourne Ultimatum. .
Get the 2 movies, watch and compare. U'ld see

and  . . .
Why didnt James get laid by the Olga chic??
They had to bring in one other chic for him to  sleep with. . .

. . and to make up for them not showing the sex scene, they had to show us the girl's privates!!!!
that was so uncalled for!!. .
Quantum of Solace reali disappointed as far as I'm concerned. .
are they losing it?

Th last Bond movie IMO was Die Another Day

@spikyn
lol.
Q of S owes me an apology. grin

Re: Review Any Movie by ExInferis(m): 2:39am On Nov 17, 2008
maybe after like 22 or so instalments they are getting fed up with sticking to formula, as i know i am. heck, its about time the franchise tests other waters beyond the standard suave-gadgety-Hot-always-get-out-of-any-sticky-situation-with-hardly-a-scratch-and-a-one-liner-to-crack-us-up Bond of yore.

so what if he drives a ford, an Alfa Romeo or a Saab, so what if Olga is The One That Got Away? so what if the fisticuffs are a little more visceral? Bond has become too predictable over the years and speaking for me im glad they are taking it in a whole different direction with a Bond who relies on brute strength and cunning rather than fantastic gizmos and one immense mojo.

next up, a negro Bond in a pimped out, low-riding Hooptie!
Re: Review Any Movie by vescucci(m): 2:56pm On Nov 17, 2008
Quantum of Solace is giving people no solace. Me, am torn between two schools of thought. I actually agree with Ex on the need to revise the franchise but like Justkunmi and Debosky, I do not think they ought to overdo it. Spies do carry gadgets and cannot always ass-kick their way outta every situation.

@Ex, hehe, black agent dude in an impala? Mike Myers would be unemployed.

the only problem is Bond movies, like anything featuring jason statham, say, are bound to be hopelessly predictable and on a single track. the standard Bond formula is: evil stinking rich megalomaniac wants to acquire/utilize clever yet deadly weapons to rule the world (or a portion of it) and the lecherous brit superspy is sent along with a clutch of gadgets to save the day. the plots in Bond movies (most action movies, really) are getting more and more complicated to infuse with anything captivating, interesting.

this is post cold war 21st century: the enemies and grudges of old no longer hold water. the fantastic gadgets which immensely added to the appeal are no longer incredible and awe-inspiring (most can be found in Engadget.com  grin ), the one-liner jokes are getting harder to come by. and certainly the bang-bang-boom-boom formula action showdowns are showing their age.

its a standard repertoire hardly deviant in like 40 years.

so?

so like every filmmaker who wants to keep eating, something has to give, so its either do something clever with the photography (matrix, sin city, 300, journey to the center of the earth etc) or introduce a very different kind of Bond in order to pique our natural curiousity.

like i said before, i find the new Bond heading satisfiable. the stick-to-formula routine is still there, like i said they are just playing it safe with a franchise having a mass fan following, but there are certain new elements there to make for a refreshing change.

would you rather an Indian in a Tata?
Re: Review Any Movie by Gamine(f): 7:11pm On Nov 17, 2008
Black dude? Well if Obama can, Jamal Bond can.
Re: Review Any Movie by ExInferis(m): 10:49pm On Nov 17, 2008
well, actually daniel craig himself suggested a black bond but it could just be soundbite.

meanwhile in the wake of the obama aberration anything in movies is just possible:

soon we'll start seeing a flood of black aliens, black terrorists, black blacks etc.
Re: Review Any Movie by Gamine(f): 11:23pm On Nov 17, 2008
I thought Blacks were already Aliens. Black Blacks! Man you so crazy. Lol grin
Re: Review Any Movie by justkunmi(m): 11:27pm On Nov 17, 2008
@Ex
the Bond movies can still retain their uniqueness and at the same time be different from previous ones. . .
you dont have to change your whole identity to become better. . you just have to find out what's making you boring or monotonous and address the issues. .

the sleek gadget freak agent can still be retained. you can add spice to it by bringing in a sleeker enemy with more bad ass gadgets. .
and it throws James Bond himself into confusion. . .

like i said b4, the last Bond movie was Die Another Day
Re: Review Any Movie by ExInferis(m): 12:26am On Nov 18, 2008
@justkunmi

i totally get your point, but lets take a cue from a recent blockbuster: if Chris Nolan hadnt taken batman a little away from formula we could have caught ourselves in the same doldrums that stalled Clooneys batman.

there is only so much you can do with the core elements of a Bond movie without alienating the fanbase (which essentially consists of our parents and granma before the advent of Pierce Brosnan in 1995). the appeal of Bond is much more than the gadgets: its primarily watching traps being laid and knowing hes going to beat that trap, among other things.

the gadgets, like starwars in the 70s, thrilled back then when technology was so young and the idea of a laser wristwatch or springloaded switchblade was almost beyond the realm of what was possible. now all that gadgetry isnt that fantastic and consequently is less appealing than it used to be because most if not all either exist or are feasible. (one of the coolest gimmicks in recent film history was the 3D motion controlled interface in Minority Report: well, that technology exists now, and its called G-Speak by Oblong Industries).

ultimately my point is that after 4 decades, 21 instalments and 5 Bond actors it stands to reason that the 6th Bond in the 22nd movie should be a little something new, different and engaging in a rather dramatic sort of way. realworld agents don't have the gadget array that Bond has so its sensible that in this age of art imitating life a secret agent will look, feel and act like one. simply cramming the film with gadgets with the prayer that theyd help prop up the plot and blind us from any potential crapitude wont work; else the gadget-riddled Inspector Gadget wouldnt have been a failure  wink and threaten matthew broderick's career.

at least casino royale is the 5th highest grossing bond ever, far surpassing any of Brosnans efforts and that says something about daniel craig.

however personally i disagree with you on one point: traditional Bond, as envisaged by Ian Fleming, ended with GoldenEye.

on a different note, 2009 seems to be the year of the blockbusters, my money is a little on Underworld: Rise of the Lycans

wot the blazes is chow yun fat doing in DragonBall the movie? it looks like a bomb in the making.
Re: Review Any Movie by WebMonk(m): 5:45pm On Nov 18, 2008
@justkunmi
Just read your posts. I give up. The flaws are too hard to ignore after the Bourne Hype has left my system. So if i close one eye, it's a good movie.

@Ex Inferis
Don't even think about it. It's going to be a MegaBomb Flop. The trailer just killed whatever hopes i had for the movie's success. Any true dragonball fan doesn't have to even watch the movie to know this. So sad. How can PICOLLO be white? HOW shocked
