If you have been following Ekiti politics, you would know the Opeyemi Bamidele/Fayemi squabble did not start today. The problem actually started after PDP rigged the Ekiti Governorship re-run between Fayemi and Segun Oni. Opeyemi Bamidele being the most popular politician in Ekiti ACN, was advised by some party leaders to start preparing for governorship election. The young Man started consulting with people across the state. This did not go down well with Fayemi, who was fighting to recover his mandate that was stolen the second time. It is this same reason that Dr Fayemi, stood his ground and made sure the Senatorial ticket wash handed over to Babafemi Ojudu, who clearly lost the primaries to Michael Opeyemi Bamidele (MOB). It is a known fact that Femi Ojudu is not popular in Ekiti. He is believed to be arrogant, plus the fact that he didn't have much money to share (He was Managing Editor of The News Magazine/PM News). MOB was Former Governor Adeniyi Adebayo, and Asiwaju's candidate, but they yielded to JKF as a sign of respect to the governor. MOB never contested for the primaries of house of Reps, it was handed over to him as compensation. Dr Kayode Fayemi has done tremendously well as Governor of Ekiti, and I'll gladly vote him a second time. But, it is undemocratic to prevent other candidates from pursuing their ambition. ACN need to manage the situation, otherwise it is going to be an easy ride for PDP. MOB still remain the strongest individual in Ekiti ACN. Not even former Governor Adeniyi Adebayo can match his popularity. Ekiti a gbe a ooo. 1 Like |
Tinubu expresses surprise over Opeyemi’s suspension from Ekiti Reps Caucus Premium Times Published: July 10,2013 Former Lagos governor, Bola Tinubu The former Lagos governor demands reversal of the decision to suspend Opeyemi Bamidele. The national leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Bola Tunubu, has expressed surprise over the suspension of Opeyemi Bamidele from the party’s caucus in the House of Representatives; and called for the reversal of the action. In a statement on Wednesday, Mr. Tinubu said though he has not received an official briefing on the purported suspension of the lawmaker over his plan to contest the 2014 governorship election in Ekiti State, the action of the caucus could truncate ongoing efforts at reconciliation over the ambition. Mr. Opeyemi had, last week, reportedly declared his intention to go ahead with his plan to contest the governorship election even though Mr. Tinubu and other leaders of the party resolved to allow the incumbent, Kayode Fayemi, to run for another four-year term. However, his insistence to enter the race angered his five colleagues in the Ekiti State House of Representatives Caucus, who suspended him from their fold. Those who took the action are Robison Ajiboye, Bamidele Faparusi, Bimbo Daramola, Ifeoluwa Arowosoge, and Oyetunde Ojo. Mr. Tinubu said, “It has been reported that members of the Ekiti State Caucus in the House of Representatives suspended Hon. Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, as their leader because of his alleged declaration to contest the governorship election next year. “I have not seen an official word through the party machinery about this action. However, I feel compelled to speak to dispel rumor and false report from assuming the aspect of fact. “The news of the purported removal of Opeyemi Bamidele came as a surprise. The decision of the members of the Ekiti House Caucus in this regard truncates ongoing efforts at reconciliation, notwithstanding the fact that the party leadership is working hard to reconcile all sides. “What took some members of the leadership of the party to Ekiti State recently was a continuation of the process of appeal and reconciliation. “The objective here is to first understand and iron out the issues that have resorted in a gulf between Opeyemi Bamidele and Governor Kayode Fayemi on one hand and the party towards building a formidable political house in Ekiti.” The former Lagos State Governor, under whom Mr. Opeyemi served as a commissioner, said he does not believe that the caucus members could take such step, adding “I trust their democratic pedigree to highly believe that they would not be used to take this false step which would violate established party rules, processes and traditions.” He stressed that if the National Chairman of the Party, Bisi Akande, was not informed about the plan to suspend Mr. Opeyemi, those who did it should retrace their steps to forestall unnecessary difficulty for themselves and the Ekiti State chapter of the party. “For instance, decisions of this critical nature must be done with the consultation of the national leadership of the party. From what I can gather, our National Chairman and the party’s leadership were never consulted or notified about the pendency of such a stark action,” he said. “For that reason alone, if such an action has been taken, those who did so should retrace their steps to avoid creating an unnecessary difficulty for themselves and the Ekiti chapter of the party. “Beyond the issue of procedure and rules, there is the tiny matter of internal party democracy to consider. I have said before, any party member has a right to contest the governorship of Ekiti or any other state. Any other person, including Opeyemi Bamidele, has the right to. “This right is so fundamental to internal democracy that I do not believe he should be sanctioned at this point where the most he has done is to make unofficial statements about contesting. Our party cannot join the club of other parties that punish members for expressing interests in an office. Mr. Tinubu argued that while Mr. Opeyemi may not be popular among his lawmaker colleagues, he has a right to his beliefs. “We must protect and smother unpopular and minority positions. If we don’t like it, we vote against it at the appropriate time but we do not punish people simply for thinking differently, this is how we must grow our democracy.” “Thus, Opeyemi Bamidele was expressing his democratic rights. To unilaterally suspend him as leader of the House Caucus is a questionable one they should reconsider. “It would appear to contravene the letter and best spirit of party democracy. While we have no problem in him pursuing his democratic ambition without intimidation and persecution, we will continue our efforts at persuading him not to rock the boat and play into the hands of our opponent particularly the PDP shenanigans. |

Seriously, I keep wondering where people get this 'fayemi is working' crap. Its so obvious dat most people who claim to be ekiti people especially here on NL don't live in Ado, or visit frequently. Pple just get stuff from all dis online blogs and make up story, and fayemi is just so good with his PR and journalists. Always put himself in d news tru cheap publicity.I was born, bred, and I live in Ado Ekiti. Besides the construction of roads, there is nothing else he is doing in ekiti. Fayemi is a wasteful governor. I. Spending d millions to build a new govt house on top of d mountain, whereas fayose just built d present govt house not up to 5years. 2. Wastes so much money on parties, burials, and unnecesry gatherings 3. He has no originality. He copies everything from aregbe and his other APC governors 4. He's bn so inhuman to teachers, local govt workers and health workers. The teaching hospital was better b4 he came. 5. The university (EKSU) has bn goin tru a lot of stress lately because of how he cut their allocation. Imagine merging 3 universities and then claiming that there is not enof money to manage d 1 he merged them to. Whereas dis universities were all doing fine b4 he came and merged them. He is now asking students to pay money anytime they like forgetting that it takes a lot of money to run a university. 6. Removed so many allowances from the EKSU lecturers salary, all in d name of their is no money. and yet, u keep wondering where all d money is going. Where as he is harnessing money for his election campaigns. Come to Ekiti and ask the average taxi driver, or the market woman. Nobody is ready to vote for him again. Besides, if I know my ekiti people well, we CANNOT allow anyone rule a second time. Even FAYOSE with all d love he had can't win a second time. Fayemi feels threatened. Dats why ACN/APC is doing all dis. MOB, deserves a right to primaries. APC can't win in Ekiti in 2014. 2 Likes |

He has refused to pay the State Scholarship and Bursary awards since his inception 3 years ago. Yet he's doubled tuition fees increased taxes! Though he promised to reduce EKSU tuition fees on his swearing in but alas the opposite is the case. the teacher's salary increment he's also withdrawn which Segun Oni had been paying in full just like the Scholarship on merit! He's collapsed the two state universities into one citing lack of funds. Yet he's building a private university in Ghana! While the citizens lack employment at home! he's borrowed a record amount of 27billion naira with nothing commensurate to show for it. People say roads yes he resurfaced roads already created by Oni and Fayose! Where is the borrowed 27 billion? the teaching hospital is a death center! A trip to the maternity section will convince you. 2 Likes |

Ovularia: Tinubu expresses surprise over Opeyemi’s suspension from Ekiti Reps Caucus How can Tinubu express surprise when his son-in-law was among those who suspended the guy? Would his son-in-law have been party to this without consulting Tinubu who is their godfather? Who is Tinubu fooling? I think he is just trying to salvage the situation after hearing from the people on ground in Ekiti that PDP is poised to woo Opeyemi Bamidele and that the guy commands incredible followership that could spell doom for ACN/APC. 1 Like |

homesteady:Oga you too STFU You can't compare what happen in PDP/NGF to this, NGF is a forum consist of Governors from 7 different parties. What are saying then is that GEJ can't impose Jang on or the rest of the Governors since its not a PDP Forum. When GEJ impose someone in Bayelsa and chase sylvia away did anybody comment on that? This is Party and Family matter. Though i am a Pro ACN and now APC, Though am not in support of what the ACN leaders are doing now instead of asking him to step down they should have let him go into primary and loose woefully instead of asking him not to contest and imposing an incumbent Governor. Well since its an in-house matter i believe they will settle it and compensate him with a Senatorial. |

Afam4eva:THE REAL PARALLEL TO COMPARE IS THIS: AKPAB8O AS THE CHAIRMAN OF PDP GOVERNOR'S FORUM WANTS TO CONTEST FOR THE PRESIDENCY WHEN ALL THE MEMBERS OF THE FORUM ARE FOR JONATHAN. WHAT DO EEPWCT THE MEMBERS OF THE FORUM TO DO? THE LOGICAL THING TO DO TAKE STEP TO DISTAMCE TJEMSELVES AND INDICATE THEIR THAT HE DOES NOT HAVE THEIR SUPPORT. BACKFIELD HAS DECLARED HIS INTENTION TO CONTEST FOR GOVERNORSHIP AND NO ONE DENIES HIM HIS DEMOCRATIC RIGJT. TJE FIVE OTHER MEMBERS OF THE SIX MEMBER FORUM ARE SIMPLY EXERCISING THEIR DEM8CRATIC RIGHT AS WELL. ANY TALK OF A PARALLEL BETWEEN THIS AND THE AMAECJI CASE IS NONSENSE. OF COURSE THE CHIEFTAIN OF A PARTY HAVE A SAY IN WHO BECOMES THE CANDIDATE BECAUSE THEY CAN SWAY THE OPINION OF MAJORITY OF THE RANK AND FILE. |

dridowu: If truly pple of Ekiti want him as gov, he shd leave acn to contest in order party, he sd learn frm thre neigbhour state gov (mimiko), who went ahead to contest in unknown partythnk u my brother. I wld advise MOB, as is fondly called to move on with his ambition in other party. Same way he won d senatorial primary b4 2011 G/E but was asked to step aside for senator babafemi ojudu, who came second in d primary, he was later compesated with house of rep ticket. |

I SEE THE POINT ASIWAJU IS TRYIMG TO MAKE HERE. MAY BE THE MEMBERS OF THE EKITI CAUCUS SHOULD COOL TEMPER IF THERE IS AN ONGOING RECONCILATION EFFORT.. THEY HAVE MADE THEIR POINT LOUD AND CLEAR . BAMIDELE DOES NOT HAVE THEIR SUPPORT. THEY ARE THE ONES YOU MADE HIM THE CHAIRMAN OF THEIR SIX MAN CAUCUS AND IF THEY WISH THEY CAN REMOVE HIM AS THE CHAORMAN OF THEIR CAUCUS. CONTRARY TO SOME MISLEADING POSTS HERE, BAMIDELE WAS NOT REMOVED BY THE PARTY AND THE PARTY IS NOT EVEN AWARE OF THIS. HE WAS REMOVED AS THE CHAIRMAN OF THE EKI TI FORUM BY THE OTHER FIVE MEMBERS OF THE FORUM AS THEIR CHAIRMAN. IT IS ALSO8 THEIR D2DEMOCRATIC RIGHT TO DO SO. AS FOR BAM8DELE, SINCE HE HAS FORMALLY DECLARED HIS INTENTION TO RUN AND HE DOES'NT ENJOY THE SUPPORT OF THE MEMBERS OF THE FORUM,, HE SHOULD STEP DOWN AS THE CHAIRMAN. |

taharqa2: There are no greater group of HYPOCRITES as ACN in d Entire world!! No one is even close... Was dis not d Same tin they were voraciously accusing d President and PDP of in respect of Ameachi?? A party that has NEVER conducted any internal Primary- one where ALL its candidates are IMPOSED by a small clique of 'Elders' led by d Grand Emperor himself- accusing anoda party, that at least makes a show of internal primaries (emphasis on d word 'show'), of imposing candidates and bn undemocratic!! Only in Nigeria..... HYPOCRITES *spitsindisgust* You are so wrong by trying to compare this ACN issue with tht of the GEJ-Amaechi feud. Bamidele as not bin suspended from the ACN Its legislative caucus which he chairs tht has removed him and carried their support over to Gov fayemi Bamidele can still go ahead and contest in the primaries if he so desires Even in the US or UK who thought us this democracy. You will hardly find any opposition against a sitting president from witin his own party if he his to go for a second term. Dont try to confuse people to score cheap political points. This case is nothng compared to wht has happened in the PDP. |

drnoel: The rules and regulations of ACN is that: evry party all over the world hav their respective caucuses, leadership and decision makers. Even in more advanced climes the leadership of any party has the right to thrw there wait behind whoever thy dim fit to fly the flag of their party and win them elections. Yes you can say tht tinubu is more or less the generallissimo of the ACN. He has evry right to thrw his wait bhind any1 he chooses. It is then left to the respective congresses to say otherwise if thy are displeased. and the candidates to also go back to the congresses to test their popularity. If this is hw te ACN operates and its working for them and you do not like it you can stick with which eva party tht catches your fancy. If it is the papa deceiving pikin or the Peter Obi farmhouse cald APGA or the wolf in sheep skin-PDP called LP or the Buhari people-CPC or the corn farm tht has failed to yield much harvest called the ANPP.
