But my emphasis is that those limestone deposits can't keep wasting like that.
If he is scared that Ibeto will start making mouth, then he should allow those that won't make mouth to develop it, ebonyi indigenes shd be encouraged OR the govt shd go into that.
NigerCem, Ebonyi was there in the East central state nah. We can go back to it .

OK, will he trust an Enugu state indigene like me to come and do it?

achi4u: Ngozi you should've known that I don't have another state except Ebonyi, we have been cajoled for too long, we have been discriminated for no fault of ours.
We have been oppressed by our brothers from other states for too long.

We are not there yet anyway.
U and this oppression of a thing.
Do u believe Ebonyi is totally fault free from ppl's perceptions?

I know Abakiliki wasn't well catered for by the old Anambra and Enugu states but thank God, Ebonyi ppl have taken charge of their destinies since 1996.
Enugu indigenes didn't find it funny with Anambra ppl either, those days, but as far as am concerned, its all settled now.
Nobody can say the other is oppressing him or her again.
Its time we all do Sth for ourselves.

ifechez:

The truth of the matter is that the states of anambra and abia (especially anambra) are under quoting their IGR. This I learnt is to be able to attract donor agencies to give the states more money. Becos if u look at a place like Awada with it's numerous 4 and 5 storey buildings that has been audited and documented. This was done to be able to tax the property owner accordingly as regards tenancy fee.

^^^But it just doesn't add up! Anambra could easily have an average monthly IGR of 3 billion naira (at least); so does that mean donor agencies give them more than that every month?

I think the unpalatable truth is that the money (at least 2.5 billion per month) is going into private pockets, and i suspect the same thing is happening in Abia state as well! I get very angry when i think of theft on such a large scale happening under our noses; and it's the easiest kind of theft b'cos there's no paper trail or accounts for EFCC to go over and indict those found culpable!
Re: The Ebonyi State You May Not Have Known by Nuzo1(m): 7:33pm On Dec 02, 2013
Ngozi, you are right about so many things you stated here about the inadequacies of the governor and also the indigenes.

First, The transfer of Specialist teaching hospital to FG in my own limited knowledge was a massive mistake. That hospital had the potential to be one of the best teaching hospitals in West Africa if it was properly funded and managed by the state government. The transfer was a blunder by Elechi.

You are right about the locals absconding after treatment but it's not only peculiar to the Locals. Such behavior could be found in any environment where health care is expensive....or where the locals are very poor.
This behavior doesn't take away the fact that their brothers and sisters from other Igbo states marginalized them in the old Anambra, Imo, Enugu and Abia states.

All is good now though.

And for the records, I had never thought there was a time Elechi stopped Ibeto from establishing a cement factory in Ebonyi. What I think happened was that Ibeto wanted to buy the Nkalagu cement factory (Nigercem) through the back door. The 5 state governors rejected the move.
Remember, though situated in Ebonyi, Nigercem is owned by the whole of South East.

I also agree with you that Elechi and most especially the past governments have not done a lot to harness the raw materials in the state. That being said, we are fully aware he's being careful not to sell off these valuables to scavengers just for the sake of harnessing it.

I hate to praise Elechi, but truth remains that he's the best performing governor in the east with little federal allocation. His achievements in the rural areas cannot be quantified.

Nobody heard of this guy cos he's not a media or online governor. Matter of fact, at a point in time.....he bared the state TV from airing adverts about his achievements. He believes in letting his achievements speak for him.

For the past 6 years or so, any best graduating Ebonyi student from any department in any university gets automatic scholarship for masters and phd abroad.

As a Nigerian politician, he also has his downside of which some of us are not happy about.

I've always respected you Achi, but this comment of yours is quite childish. You talked about dirty deals which you didn't spell out well and same you talked about going to brag with his Otolo Nnewi Umunna. Pls read what you wrote again. Dangote could reach a deal to establish such a factory in Ogun being from another ethnic group. Even foreigners are doing same. Why are we our own enemies? Why can't Obeto be allowed to run a cement factory there and create jobs while being taxed as well? Do you know how much Enugu is benefiting from Innoson. If Obeto brags in Otolo and so what? Would you rather be happy to see him going to Plateau to establish that instead of Alaigbo? I can't fathom any meaningful thing from what you wrote. I will just assume you don't know jack about this issue cos what you wrote is unintelligent.

So is the idea dead and buried? Can't something be done? I hate it when no Igbo man makes it in forbe's list of rich men and yet we claim ingenuity. Why can't we support our own. point! That's in the past. Remember I said earlier that I graduated from EBSU. I know these Two very well. Ebonyians making it big and seeking greener pasture in Anambra are too numerous that you begin to wonder if it's 1 in every 3 persons here. Go to Osha, Awka, Ihialla, even Ibeto's place Nnewi. You still didn't get me right Ngozi &co.First, instead of ibeto group going to the owners of the Nigercem cement company which is owned by the 5 S.eastern states he went and deal with 5 local chiefs comprising the 5 communities where the said company was situated.
And Elechi hate such gesture,he wanted the man come out clean and do his business.
Secondly, the area where you mentioned of some Ebonyians absconding from paying their hospital bills is very big lie...and remember it can happen to anywhere which means no tribe, ppl, village or community is indispensable.

Again, many of ur contributions here is like u are trying to turn this thread into Anambra vs Ebonyi which is not good IMO.

I leaved all my youthful years in Anambra and Nnewi as my base.Anambra to me is my second home in-respective of what I went through as an Ebonyi boy in d hands of my Anambra brothers. Although, the situation is fast fading away.
You may never know hw it feels to be looked down simply because you are from a certain state or community.

Elechi 's government is like two adage sword ...the state capital is struggling on their own while his focuses his developmental stride on inner communities, those inner roads plus so many bridges no be beans, but we in the capital still need our fresh air.lol

The most painful thing Elechi administration did to an to the entire Ebonyi youth was the disbandment of "Ebonyi angels football club " which needs some push to enter nigeria premier league.
The second one was the restriction of okada /motorcycles from plying the dual carriage roads as all the roads here are all double lane.
In fact, many of his decisions are too scary to the common man.

if what you said about elechi extending infrastructure to all the villages and inner parts of ebonyi instead of concetrating only in the capital alone then it means he knows what development is all about...like i keep saying i do not believe in making a state capital or one big city in a state eldorado while just three km out of the state capital you would be hit by images of the 19th century....secondly i do not believe in government running football clubs.

That's very true about Elechi. He kind of abandoned the state capital and focused on all the rural areas....and also the new capital city ( ochudo).
As much as I think that it's the smartest move any governor can make, the current capital city shouldn't be totally abandoned.

Small fund should be set aside to maintain the existing infrastructure in the would-be old city. The potholes on the road are building up, the street lights are out.

I'm of the opinion that governments shouldn't be running football clubs cos in the Nigerian situation its almost non profitable venture.
However, such venture as Ebonyi Angel should have been handled carefully by the Elechi as the team was a fast breeding ground for talented Ebonyi players. Ebonyi Angel was already topping the league within few years it was created. She had the potential to be continental like Enyimba and Kano pillars.

Elechi should have nurtured the team and systematically transfered it to a private investor with conditions of retaining the name and location. Or even find a willing partner to run the club with. But instead, he sold the club to Ifeanyi Uba or so.

Good governance is not only about infrastructure, it also has a lot to do with human development of which I think Elechi has neglected in this past 6 years.

I guess he got pissed with Sam egwu's style of government. The government of sharing money to individuals while infrastructure is non existent.

This is highly commendable as you have virtually touched almost every part of the State. You have exposed the State to us as we have never known. Kudos, sister!

Both the state and the FG should move massively and encourage the rice growers/millers so that we can stop the billions of dollars we spend in importing rice from Thailand and India.
