New SAAF transport aircraft apparently still on the cards

In its 2018/19 budget, the Department said the long-delayed acquisition would start from next year. According to the Portfolio Committee on Defence and Military Veterans (PCDMV), the 2017 Estimates of National Expenditure (ENE) indicated that the Air Defence programme of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) would increase significantly towards 2019/20 with an additional R1.4 billion allocated for the procurement of new medium and light transport aircraft and a new generation mobile communications capability.

NEW C130 replacements perhaps grin grin grin grin

The fact that you'll compare MRAP's to LUH speaks volumes. It is a completely different sphere of engineering & technical know-how.

Did we not have this same conversation with the guided missiles story. Where are they? The secret guided missiles on that island.....remember them? The ones where i said you will develop no such thing within 10+ years. Sounds familiar?

Unless a foreign manufacturer is going to setup an assembly plant in Nigeria, it will take many many years before one is designed & built in your country. Not "soon". That's a simple fact.

Story for the gods.

Lol! The same old cliché! It is the glee of some to poke a hole in every Nigerian success story.

Henry knows exactly what he's talking about. Even Nuclear weapons and it's delivery systems is no longer rocket science talk less of LUH. Even when is blasted in you guys face every day the ingenuity of the Nigerian you still choose the shallow path of dishonor. Nigeria is only showing that in a time of war much like the Americans in WW11 it has the capacity to bring to bear the needed resources both human and material on a huge scale to win the war in this region.

To inform you those Nigerian missiles are not in limbo. They do exist...the engineers are continuously working on it to make it behave more intelligently. Nigeria does have weapon capabilities not known in public. I leave here.

You are fighting Boko Haram, not the 3rd Reich. Calm down with your delusions of grandeur...as well as the delusions of your technical sophistication. Take things one step at a time, and you'll get there eventually.

Very few countries can effectively design and manufacture the main rotary bearing and assembly on a helicopter. Not to mention the balancing, materials, aerodynamics, electronics etc. Each of these need a pre-existing industry with experts. You're just going to build the whole thing "soon". Oh okay.

And about your "missiles"...that must be the most secretive conventional weapons program on planet earth. Even Lockheed Martin & Boeing openly announce when they are working on new conventional weapons, but Nigeria.....hush hush for nothing grin.

Anyways, that's my last reply on the topic. Back to pics.

Thank you for this. It is gratifying to have people with technological awareness on this forum. You and NemesisXu especially. Let me just add that lubrication, balancing and vibration problems on main rotary bearing and assembly of a helicopter would have been the subject of PhD work in universities and industrial research projects going on more than 60 years. The work has not even stopped. When my fellow Nigerians discuss technology i get very irritated.
They are mostly right that Nigeria has all the talent. What they don't realize is the amount of work, organization, team management, money, generations of engineers and dedication involved.

Those four struts carrying the assembly, the mathematics, modelling, computer analyses work alone would be massive. That is why that chopper takes off and lands everyday for the next 30 years with just a few PDMs.

Sometimes I wonder what you are drinking for your recurrent hallucinations. "Kettle calling the pot black". Better be your last reply cos its meaningless.

Nigeria is arguably the only African Country that can with its foreign technical partners produce sophistcated systems in very little time and in most cases even alone. This has been proven over and over again even during the Biafran war. This is 2018 not 1945. The evidence abounds from work done on our Fighter Aircrafts to other weapon systems in military arsenal. That you cant do it in short time doesn´t mean others can´t. Necessity makes it urgent for us to do so and we do being a Nation unofficially at war on multiple fronts and still Standing to your chagrin. That u refuse to see it with the cynic 5-10 yrs story we hear all the time is your problem. Even when the Army chief tells u in clear terms a LUH is in the works u still chose to dampen the reality. Even locals who have never seen the four walls of a University have been known to produce helicopters and crude aircrafts in Nigeria. You Need to visit Nigeria so that u stop for a Moment and admit your Country in no measure will ever be able to match our capacity to wage and win a war in this Region. Speaking of human potential If you have ever been to other african countries and come to Nigeria you can´t help but attest to the level of human ingenuity and creativity here and the size of it. The Americans don´t call us Africa´s most important Country because of oil. These are a people bamboolzed by succesive Nigerian governments yet thrive. Even General Babangida admitted how he is baffled the Nigerian economy didn´t collapse under his Military administration thanks to its People. The African presidents who flock to Abuja or give a stately welcome to Nigerian presidents like they would a US president to guarantee their Regimes know better than u do. But the Point is even if it takes us 200 yrs or 10 yrs to do LUH which is laughable what is your Problem!

Obviously the Nigerian Missile Story gives you sleepless nights. Brace yourself for more.

Delusions of Grandeur are for those like you and your Peers here who think they know something but actually knows nothing.

For those who enjoy reading technological facts....some extra random info. 3 periscopes were delivered to Germany in 2017.

"South Africa is one of a select few countries in the world with the know-how and advanced manufacturing capacity to produce high-quality periscopes for modern submarines.

Local technology company, Carl Zeiss Optronics today opened its new facility in Centurion where the periscopes will in future be manufactured and assembled. The opening was conducted by the Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Admiral R W Higgs.

Kobus Viljoen, the CEO of Carl Zeiss Optronics, says the local company has a long history in the development and manufacturing of periscopes. It started in 1990 when the former company Eloptro (Division of Denel (Pty) Ltd), upgraded the periscopes for the South African Navy’s Daphne class submarines. Following this successful project the first export contract was won by Eloptro in 1997, for the upgrade of periscopes of two U209 class submarines for a South American country.

In 2001, Eloptro and Carl Zeiss in Germany signed a cooperation agreement to jointly develop and manufacture a new periscope to be fitted to newly build submarines of the German shipyard. This cooperation was a result of the acquisition of new submarines by the South African government and the obligatory industrial participation by foreign companies with the local industry.

With the growing successful cooperation between the two companies, Carl Zeiss Optronics from Germany decided, in May 2007, to acquire a 70% holding of the former Denel company. The company was renamed to Carl Zeiss Optronics (Pty) Ltd.

More than twenty-five periscope assemblies have been successfully delivered to Carl Zeiss Optronics GmbH in Germany, which are integrated on submarines sailing all over the world."

Some of you guys are funny, this would't be the first helicopter to be built, this has already being done, only an idiot would spend so much resources on something they can get easily elsewhere, no need for some R&grin, build the facilities and bring in the experts from other countries, use their knowledge in this field to build yours, who the heck is talking about something is gonna take 60yrs? lol, that's funny.
60yrs my rear, bring in the experts, pay them, and let nigerian experts work alongside them, that's how you learn, that shit won't take decades, it's not a new invention, lord, anyone here actually think Nigeria will go it alone? That's idiotic
The only challenge i see here, is building the facilities, maintenance and funds, nothing else, everything else can literally be bought by bringing in foreign experts if need be.

i deduced this is probably a hard landing due to vortex ring state or auto-rotation accident, since the UH-1 fuselage isn't pressurized and damage doesn't exceed its worth.eventually it may be repaired and made airworthy
