What makes the Gripen so good: Combat readiness

1. Designed from the start to operate from small airfeilds with limited infastructure
2. Only needs 800m to take-off and land
3. Complete refuel and re-arm in less than 10 min
4. Complete refuel and re-arm requires only 10 trained technician and 5 low-skill assistants
5. All maintenence and re-arm equipment is mobile - it can be packed up and deployed anywhere. It all fits in one single shipping container.

It's funny. This year's ACD had more people attending (over 800 from about 60 countries) than the previous one which got negative mention from miscreants here because an experimental Rooivalk Mokopa fire from a Gripen designator missed its target by about 3 metres (surprise, a fast jet can't accurately designate a missile strike for a chopper - nevermind this experiment wasn't scheduled and delegates were apprised of such).

2 Ratels misfired their Ingwes this year and there's been nothing here. Which leads me to believe the detractors are simply malcontents.

Anyhoo, dear Henry, personally I'm not convinced with the UGV in the pic. A half-way decent adversary with EW capability will easily fix the electronic signature of this thing and rain holy hell.
I'm especially worried when I read the bolded:

This atheist "prays" SANDF qualifications DO NOT lead to acquisition! The Gecko is a perfectly sufficient pack mule!

IIRC,the Police had in flight stability issues with this and lost 2. True, many types can be a problem but the ground guys know their ishyt! Ideally you'd have light/medium gunship ,light/medium/heavy transport and medium utility ie fire team battle taxi/gunship.

SANDF sending hand-launched UAVs to the DRC

The South African National Defence Force is deploying hand-launched unmanned aerial vehicles to its peacekeeping force in the Democratic Republic of Congo for the first time. This appears to be the Indiza, locally developed by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research.

The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has been testing the UAV since at least last year – this has included successful evaluations in the Kruger National Park. In October 2018 an SANDF official told defenceWeb that the evaluations were ahead of a potential deployment to the DRC.

The Indiza was developed by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and can be folded up into a small container for deployment. The CSIR revealed that the aircraft is in production for a client but was not allowed to reveal who it was.

A CSIR official told defenceWeb that the Indiza has been flying a lot, and recorded over 100 flights and 70 flight hours in the current financial year. This included successful testing in 50 km/h winds and on border safeguarding missions with the SANDF.

Indiza is a hand-launched two metre span, rugged mini-UAV that can fly for over an hour at distances of up to 10 km using a brushless electric motor powered by a lithium battery pack. The Indiza airframe can house a number of generic camera pods, including day and night cameras. Various payloads up to 500 grams can be accommodated in Indiza’s modular payload bay. The camera is retracted on landing, which is assisted by a laser ranging system that is able to determine the UAV’s height above the ground.

Indiza’s ground-based equipment consist of a laptop with data link modems and optional tracking antenna system to extend the range and improve the communication quality of the video and data links. An optional radio control transmitter can be used for man-in-the-loop control of both the airframe and camera system.

The CSIR said Indiza can be used for surveillance activities such as public order policing, border management and infrastructure monitoring as well as research and development projects.

“There are very few other unmanned aerial systems that can match Indiza in terms of low-cost, advanced functionality, ease of operation, adaptability and open architecture design. The culmination of all of these renders Indiza unique in its class and our engineers and test facilities are readily available to perform adaptations or to evaluate new concepts of use. The next variant of Indiza will be able to perform up to a four hour mission by maintain the existing design baseline, but switching to a different propulsion option,” the CSIR said.

The contract for the supply of JF-17's to NAF works out at about the same unit price as the SAAF contract. You cant compare the unit costs unless you review the entire supply contract and quantify all the extra's you have to buy to operate them.

Tejas is a P.O.S that is more comparable to the new breed of light fighters like the KA-50 or YAK-130, but no where near as sophisticated as the KA-50 and no where near as capable as the YAK-130

New leonardo augusta westland helicopter facility for local assembly in Algeria

JOINT VENTURE WITH THE ALGERIAN MINISTRY OF NATIONAL DEFENCE FOR LOCAL HELICOPTER ASSEMBLY, SUPPORT AND TRAINING

Leonardo and the Algerian Ministry of National Defence are setting up a helicopter facility in Algeria scheduled to become operational in 2021.

Leonardo and the Algerian Ministry of National Defence announced today the establishment of a joint venture for the local assembly, sale and support of Leonardo helicopters for various applications. The joint venture (with a 51% share owned by the Ministry of National Defence and 49% owned by Leonardo) will be headquartered in a brand new industrial facility at Aïn Arnat, in the Sétif Province.

This latest milestone follows the industrial and trade partnership agreement signed in August 2016. The joint venture is planned to assemble, sell and support several helicopter models, primarily to meet Algeria’s national requirements, but also for the export market. In addition, the joint venture will provide the end users with technical support, maintenance and training services and capabilities.

The establishment of the joint venture marks a major achievement in the solid collaboration with Algeria that Leonardo has strengthened in years. This result demonstrates the Company’s reliability as a partner, and its capability to meet demanding requirements and deliver high quality, advanced products. Leonardo is now ready to support Algeria’s plan to play a significant role in the industrial aeronautical sector.

" Shitty flight time shitty payload "

It is a expected line of comment of any body who has no info on the same.

A person in the know will post the data regarding the same. If one knows how hard is it to post the data and close the matter for ever.

And data must be from official sources.
Somebody want to try again with data from a official source ?

How about the Indian airforce?

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has issued a new report listing several deficiencies found with India’s first domestically designed and produced light fighter aircraft, the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), in yet another push to convince the government to procure foreign-made single engine fighter jets.

According to IAF assessments, the Tejas LCA, when compared to Saab’s JAS-39 Gripen and Lockheed Martin’s F-16, boasts reduced airborne endurance — 59 minutes versus three hours for the Gripen and nearly four hours for the F-16. The Tejas can also only carry a weapons payload of around three tons against nearly six tons by the Gripen and seven tons by the F-16.

Furthermore, maintenance requirements for the Tejas LCA are also higher than with foreign combat aircraft. The Tejas LCA requires 20 hours of serving for every hour of flying against six hours for the Gripen and 3.5 hours for the F-16. In addition, the service life of the Tejas LCA is also half that of the 40 years found in both the Gripen and F-16.

Lolzzz

I reverse googled for your post and I found this as your source for the above quoted post word by word.

https://thediplomat.com/2017/11/indian-air-force-tejas-light-combat-aircraft-cant-protect-indian-skies/

Seriously thediplomat a clickbait website is your IAF source cheesy cheesy cheesy

The article is written by Franz-Stefan Gady and he mentions a " IAF news report " as a source, for which he himself did not provide the original IAF source nor did he quote passages from one ! Lol

Would have been very easy if there was a IAF issued news report in the first place isn't it ?

Matter of fact there is no such IAF issued news report till date on LCA , so the above article is bullshiiit and false.

And if you still want to prove me wrong , ask Franz-Stefan Gady or u urself provide the so called IAF issued report from IAF / MoD sources and not online websites etc without any links to official IAF / MoD sources.

Actually it is very stupid of any person especially one working in defence or security domain to believe that any air force will release information on a operational combat aircraft in its inventory listing out it's so called deficiencies.
1. Ad hominem argument
2. The deficiencies were listed in an attempt to get foreign jets instead of the Tejas.
3. All the specified deficiencies are in the public domain already
http://tejas.gov.in/specifications/leading_particulars_and_performance.html
https://www.drdo.gov.in/drdo/pub/techfocus/2011/feb%202011%20.pdf

Tejas is simply not in the same ball-park as the JF-17, Gripen and F-16. Thats not a controversial statement.

I have to spoon feed you everything? Are you so blinded by fanboyism you cant see what i just showed you?

You could just read the first link and see that it confirms limited payload

You could just read the second link and see that it confirms a limited service ceiling and that its slower than mach 2 Gripen and F-16 are almost 800 km/h faster. [Thats really bad for interceptions, isnt it?]

Or you could spend 30 seconds on google and see that India Today broke the story of the IAFs criticism of the Tejas
https://www.indiatoday.in/mail-today/story/tejas-indian-air-force-f-16-mig-21-fighter-planes-ajit-doval-1083350-2017-11-10

Or that its limited combat radius is common knowledge
https://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/pictures-indias-tejas-receives-initial-operational-clearance-394420/

Or that the Times of India confirmed its maintenance intensive
https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/jaipur/tejas-a-poor-performer/articleshow/62796155.cms

You have yet to provide any evidence to prove that a single thing I said is incorrect. Instead you threw a giant tantrum, like a child. Tejas is trash compared to the Gripen, F-16 and JF-17. Deal with it, grow up, control your emotions.

I simply asked u to prove ur crappy payload and crappy flight time comment , and u replied by post all MSM nonsense links etc and yet u failed to give the answer.

And LCA MK1 is a light weight category fighter and you genius is comparing it with medium weight category fighter like F16 E/F and Gripen E. Rings any bells now.

Let me explain further incase u still can't process it , compared to Su35 Gripen E has crappy payload and crappy range. Got the incredulity of ur stupid comparison now ? Different category different capabilities.

Anyway forget it I am done with u , no point discussing with online experts. I will avoid u from now.

Seriously u now will teach me aeronautics sir ?

U know Tdayof ?
Next time he comes online don't forget to ask him about my aeronautics or avionics etc

And now accuse me of fanboyism ?
That's a serious U turn lol

Plz allow me to jog ur memory , see the comment below which u posted a month or two ago in reply to mine lol

Unlike many I prefer to make comments based on technicalities rather than bullshiiit without an iota of subject knowledge.

If you want to say the biggest Newspapers in india are wrong, you must provide evidence.

2. We are comparing the Tejas to the rest because it costs about as much as a Gripen. Thats how the Tejas came up, please follow the discussion on this forum before derailing it with your antics.

3. Yes, Tejas is a light fighter. I said so about a dozen times. Thats why I compared it to the KA and YAK

So you disagree with me about the Tejas not being as good as the Gripen, F-16 or JF-17 but then say "yes, its a light fighter its not as goood" What exactly is your malfunction? What exactly are you disagreeing about?
