This will be a defining moment for russian arms exports

This is the reason why Nigeria buys military equipment from a wide range of suppliers.

You cannot be overly reliant on one supplier.

South African army plagued by setbacks in Cabo Delgado

The SADC intervention force in northern Mozambique, to which South Africa is the main contributor, has suffered a series of setbacks, including logistical snafus, lack of intelligence gathering, and poor coordination with Rwandan and Mozambican troops.

I no de like this kain thing
Would have been if I had made fun of them but I didn't, instead I chose to give them the benefit of doubt...
Even for Honduras case, I would still giv'em the benefit even though I know nothing about their military...
I have seen military preparations on multiple occasions, They never just show up on D Day to perform military dispalys, they practice and practice... 7 days prior to parachuting infront the public, soldiers will be jumping either to the same location (eg stadium) or a nearby field once or twice a day until a day b4 D Day.. For it to go this wrong on D Day its impossible to imagin incompetence so I choose to believe it was extra windy last minute.

It's a smaller vehicle and it's designed to be cheaper than the PF ARA.

@NTSA I still dont get why the airforce was given the cobras instead of the army's 50th calvary, 6 is such a small number to be inducted into the airforce, they would be much more useful to army if they had operational control, If the army had them, they would be in Somali right now
I just hope there will be more hardware acquisition in this new regime.

NTSA:

I just hope there will be more hardware acquisition in this new regime.
I just don't see it happening with this regime and in this looming global economic resession.
Remember how during campaigns he (Ruto) criticised Uhuru for putting $50m USD investment in a gun factory so that we dont have to import guns anymore..
At the time Ruto argued that with automation the factory employed about 100 skilled and unskilled and he claimed if instead the money had been invested in a labour intensive venture the same money could have instead employed 1,000s of people... That doesn't sound like someone who is going to put $500 million or more in a major military acquisition. I get the jobs argument but equally important, the gun factory (plus the ammunition factory that we already have) saves us forex exchange, improves logistics and dependability, self reliance and independence etc .. If he couldn't see sense in that how is he going to find sense in a large expensive military acquisition from outside the country... Even a $20m light skin military vehicle assembly plant is looking like a pipe dream with that thinking at the top right now.

Kenya Kwanza presidential candidate William Ruto has criticized the nation’s small arms manufacturing in Ruiru, Kiambu County, claiming it is not economically viable.

Speaking during the launch of his manifesto held at Kasarani stadium, the Kenya kwanza leader questioned the sense of the idea of the factory that he says cost Ksh4 billion.

In an attack seemingly veiled on the Head of State, Ruto stated that it would have been better for the government to construct garment factories since it’s cheaper.

Comparing the two, the DP stated that the Kitui county government invested Ksh168 million on a clothing industry that produced 600 jobs.

He claimed that this was comparable to Ksh280,000 per job, while the weapons factory was Ksh40 million per job.

“We have recently inaugurated a firearms factory that cost Ksh.4 billion and celebrated the fact that it will create 100 or so jobs. This works out to an investment of Ksh.40 million per job,” he said in his Kenya Kwanza coalition manifesto launch.

“In the same country, the County Government of Kitui established a garment factory with a capacity for 600 jobs at a cost of Ksh.168 million, Ksh.280,000 per job. The Ksh.4 billion gun factory investment is the equivalent of 24 Kitui garment factories and 14,000 jobs.”

Ruto went on to say that policy decisions made for investments, rather than the amount of money available, were what ultimately dictated economic decisions.

He asserted that this was how the trickle-down and bottom-up economic theories differed.

In April of last year, President Uhuru Kenyatta officially opened the Ksh. 4 billion facility, which has a single-shift annual production capacity of 12,000 assault rifles.

Anyway, I long for the day to discover I was wrong to assume, maybe now that he sits at the top, the security council would change his mind about certain things.

Second SA Navy MMIPV ready for launch

Damen Shipyards Cape Town will soon launch the second multi-mission inshore patrol vessel (MMIPV) for the South African Navy (SAN), with handover next year following sea trials.

The launch date moved closer with a blessing ceremony held at Damen Shipyards Cape Town on 14 October, the company revealed.

During the event, the vessel was blessed and a bottle of champagne was broken over the bow as is the custom, and the South African flag was raised on the vessel.

After the ceremony, the second MMIPV will be launched into the water and then delivered to the SAN in 2023 after extensive acceptance trials. The third vessel will be delivered one year later in 2024. Armscor has indicated deliveries will be in April of both years.

Sefale Montsi, Director at DSCT said: “With this ceremony, this vessel will soon join her sister, SAS King Sekhukhune II in successfully sailing South African and international waters. The project continues to meet the client’s specifications, on time and within budget. Damen Shipyards Cape Town and our growing local supply chain stand ready to deliver more of these much-needed vessels to our navy.”

“We are pleased with the progress that has been made thus far”, said Armscor Group Executive Acquisition and Supply Chain Management, Meshak Teffo. “We are committed to providing the South African National Defence Force with state-of-the-art defence materiel they require to protect the sovereignty of the country. This MMIPV Project demonstrates our capability to deliver on complex acquisition solutions. We are looking forward to the delivery of this second Multi Mission Inshore Patrol Vessel next year.”

The first MMIPV (P1571), SAS King Sekhukhune I, was handed to the SA Navy on 18 May. The second vessel will be named SAS Adam Kok and the third SAS King Shaka. The first vessel took part in Exercise Ibsamar with India last week, sailing off the coast of Gqeberha (Port Elizabth). This was the vessel’s first exercise.

DSCT said the MMIPV project is playing an important role in creating skilled new jobs and acting as a catalyst for the development of regional supply chains. On its own, the MMIPV project is expected to generate more than one million man-hours of work during the construction of the three MMIPVs and will support more than 1 000 direct and indirect jobs. Beyond work on the vessel, DSCT benefits from the global reach of Damen Shipyards Group to secure new business for South African industry.

“This project has also allowed the yard to increase the impact of its transformation strategy and we have achieved a level 1 BEE rating. Our strategy to make transformation part of business as usual made it possible to over-deliver on Armscor’s requirements for engagement of local businesses and workforce, as well as vessel capabilities,” Montsi said.

There's nothing new under the sun! 80 yrs ago names familiar to forumers here,Kiev, the Dnieper,Kharkov were the scene of massive combined arms manoeuvre warfare. Their formations were organised thusly.

The armored (Panzer) division now numbered 14,750 men and had about 160 tanks. The division was organized into an armored regiment with two tank battalions and 2 regiments of infantry, each with 2 battalions, along with various supporting units (reconnaissance, engineer, signal, etc.). In addition to its tanks, the division was armed with 77 guns (ranging from 75mm to 150mm); 70 mortars; 33 anti-tank guns; and 700 machine guns; and some 100 anti-aircraft guns.
https://ccnmtl.columbia.edu/services/dropoff/schilling/mil_org/milorgan_99.html

Then as now the steppe with its endless flatness and limited cover favoured armoured ops, especially the German type, spearheaded by Luftwaffe attacks with swarming Panzers all along the battle line looking for holes and piercing or them into the enemy's area where necessary finally encircling his units.

The largest prisoner bag in the history of warfare was taken by the Germans at the first battle of Kharkov in August 1941- OVER 600000!?

The First Battle of Kiev was the German name for the operation that resulted in a very large encirclement of Soviet troops in the vicinity of Kiev during World War II. It is considered the largest encirclement of troops in history. The operation ran from 23 August – 26 September 1941 as part of Operation Barbarossa.[2] In Soviet military history it is referred to as the Kiev Defensive Operation
https://military-history.fandom.com/wiki/Battle_of_Kiev_(1941)

Barely a month later the Germans moved on Kharkov extremely important in many ways.
Kharkov was one of the largest industrial centers of the Soviet Union. One of its greatest contributions was the Soviet T-34 tank that was both designed and developed at the Kharkov Tractor Factory. It was considered to be the most powerful tank plant in the country. Other plants that were located in the city included the Kharkov Aircraft Plant, Kharkov Plant of the NKVD (FED), and the Kharkov Turbine Plant. Military products that were in Kharkov before the battle started included: tanks, Su-2, artillery tractors, 82 mm mortars, sub-machine guns, ammunition, and other military equipment. The main objective for the German troops was to capture the railroad and military plants, thus they desperately tried to keep the industrial area of Kharkov intact. Adolf Hitler himself stressed the importance of those military plants stating: “…
https://military-history.fandom.com/wiki/First_Battle_of_Kharkov/url]

After all these yrs I still can't find anything specific on casualties-the most complete suggest Germany lost the better part of half of a brigade, some 2500-3000 guys with the Russians losing at least a division of 12000 in the 2 day battles of late October 1941.

The 2nd battle of Kharkov in May 1942 kicked off when exhausted Germans were withdrawing from Moscow after failing to capture it. Falling back to their Kharkov base Stalin decided on an offensive.
The Soviet strength for the offensive was about 640,000 men, supported by 1,500 tanks and 1,000 aircraft. Poor management by front line officers, however, failed to maintain the necessary degree of secrecy, and German intelligence was able to determine that a Soviet offensive was being planned.
https://ww2db.com/battle_spec.php?battle_id=50

Due to the intelligence of a possible Soviet offensive, troops were readied in nearby regions for support should an attack take place. German strength in the general area was about 300,000 men, supported by 1,000 tanks and 1,500 aircraft.

Long story short the Soviets were again encircled.

The Second Battle of Kharkov resulted in an extremely costly loss to the Soviets, which saw 207,000 men killed, wounded, or captured; some estimates put the number as high as 240,000. Over 1,000 Soviet tanks were destroyed during this battle, as well as the loss of 57,000 horses. German losses were much smaller than the Soviets, with over 20,000 killed, wounded, or captured. Soviet General Georgy Zhukov later blamed this major defeat on Stalin, who underestimated German strength in the region and failed to prepare an adequate reserve force to counter the arrival of the German reinforcement that turned the tide.

82 yrs later not much has changed but for the numbers and intensity of combat in the same theatre: its true as Jean-Fraude always says.
