Tanzania

Tanzania’s military is on a fast-tracked modernisation programme. In September, President Jakaya Kikwete said his administration is “in the process of acquiring modern air force equipment, which includes attack helicopters, modern aircraft and other high-tech gear.”
Early this year, the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces received new hardware from China, including Type 63A amphibious tanks, A100 multiple rocket launchers (a range of 40 km and 120 km) and Type 07PA self-propelled mortars. According toJanes Defence Weekly,Tanzania is also seeking to strengthen its air and naval defence capabilities to defend its newly discovered offshore petroleum resources and secure its territorial waters from piracy and illegal fishing. In 2013, Tanzania threatened to go to war with Malawi over oil exploration activities in Lake Nyasa/Malawi which is disputed by the two countries. Last year, 14 new J-7Gs fighter jets ordered in 2009 were quietly delivered from China as part of the modernisation programme of the country’s air force.

Their ships are stealthy just like nns centenary and unity but I don't think the stealth technology employed is indigenous. Most of them are from China and Russia .

Bro Nigeria is far away in some technological aspect. As in really far. I'll be happy to see a huge growth in our R&grin first.

esp given the fact that Tz-china are inseparable friends, their friendship is not just about economy, its political and has withstood everything, it wouldn't have been difficult for Tz go for the JF-17, especially now that they have like 57trillion cubic feet of natural and helium gas of which most of the development towards the production are done by Chinese state run multinationals.. If they like, they don't even have to contribute any actual money, they can choose barter trade , a few million cubic feet of gas for a dozen 4th Gens

France gives Cameroon equipment worth $700,000 to combat Boko Haram

France has made a donation of military hardware to the Cameroonian Armed Forces as part of efforts aimed at combating the Boko Haram insurgent group.

This is the second transfer of material support this year and forms part of the bilateral Franco-Cameroonian military cooperation, reinforced by the signature of a defence partnership agreement on May 21st 2009.

The French Foreign Ministry in a statement noted that the donation included ten French tactical vehicles and five transport trucks, including an all-equipped sanitary unit. It complements the training activities carried out throughout the year by the French military units in Gabon. These vehicles are equipped with weapons and transmission equipment and are accompanied with precision rifles, helmets and bullet-proof vests. All for a total value of 430 million FCFA, are destined for the Cameroonian army special units.

‘‘This material support is one of the concrete manifestations of the strengthening of France’s solidarity with Cameroon in its fight against Boko Haram as it was announced by the President François Hollande during his visit in Yaoundé on July 3rd 2015,’‘ the statement added.

Over the past year, in addition to the training and equipment of special units, military cooperation between France and Cameroon has particularly increased in the field of mine clearance and information sharing to support the fight against terrorist armed groups.

Cameroon’s Far North region is one of the hardest hit by Boko Haram insurgents. The group continues to carry out suicide attacks on communities in the region. Boko Haram are seen as a sub regional threat within the Lake Chad region.

Beside their escapades in Nigeria’s north, they also carry out attacks on Chad and on Niger hence the establishment of a Joint Multinational Task force to fight them. The group was born in Nigeria’s Borno State with the hope of establishing an Islamic Caliphate in the region.

Henry240:

If as i was informed, the navy goes ahead and builds the new ship, 50 meters boat. It would mean a massive leap in naval shipbuilding capability in Nigeria.

In terms of armament, BAE systems new 40 mm naval gun presents an exciting new prospect in naval gunnery. The 40mm from BAE can also be used as a CIWS.

The NNS Karaduwa and Andoni both come in armed with a 30 mm as their main gun. It would be dis-service to arm the new ship with a 30mm yet again.

In terms of mission deployment and commonality across the fleet, our neigbours and the Nigerian navy could deploy a common type of patrol vessel, each easily integrated with the Regional Maritime Capability Awareness system. They could also benefit from a joint shipbuilding.
ourite vessel.
if the need for FACs arise...we could build those at home and sell to neighbors
Also...our sea lift capability is literally naked
we could bridge the gap too

For sure, FACs can be built in house. We already posses the required skill set, as is normal in this industry, 3rd party systems can easily be integrated.

Our Navy recognises the requirement for no fewer than 2 LSTs. I'm plans are in motion to block this capability gap.

Abubakar: Even with our money, countries don’t want to sell aircraft to Nigeria

Sadique Abubakar, chief of air staff, says the Nigeria air force uses old aircraft because new ones are difficult to procure.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Saturday, the air chief said sometimes, politics is involved in the procurement of military hardware.

He explained that even if money was available to buy military equipment, some countries would still not want to sell.

However, he disclosed that Pakistan had sold 10 trainer aircraft to Nigeria, and that the delivery of a gunship helicopter from Russia was still being expected.

“We have been enjoying a lot of support from friendly countries. Sometimes, procurement of military equipment is shrouded in a lot of politics,” he said.

“Right now, we are expecting the Pakistan chief of air staff in Nigeria today. Pakistan has accepted to sell 10 trainer aircraft to Nigeria. That’s why he is coming to the country. We are also expecting a helicopter gunship from Russia before the end of this month.

“As a developing country, we don’t produce aircraft. Even the process of getting spare parts is hard. There is a lot of politics involved even when you have the money. Sometimes, I see online comments: ‘Why is Nigeria operating this old aircraft.’ I just laugh. People don’t know. Even if you have your money you might not see one to buy, even spare parts. That’s why we are forced to go into research and development.

“To get just quotation to buy spare parts, sometimes it takes four months to get a response depending on the relationship you have with the country. It is not easy. Some will say why are we not buying F16? But will the owner of F16 sell to you even if you have money.”

Speaking on the military operation in the northeast, Abubakar said the air force had conducted air operations for 48 hours for troops who are advancing to Sambisa forest, a Boko Haram stronghold.

He added that the air force would continue its push until insurgents were removed from the northeast.
