My biggest takeaway from this thread isn't an idea of how poor our download speeds are. On the contrary, that is well known state of affairs. Rather, it is the terrible and quite frankly, atrocious ping. The average is see here is 200ms which is useless for things like online gaming. We need nationwide wired isp preferably based on fiber. That's d only way we can progress connectivity-wise.

Those on MTN edge network will often experience creepling speed of about 5-70kb on the average while those on hspda will experience 100-2mb depending on their network strength in your area. HSPDA downlink depend on the network strength in your area. The higher the network strength the higher the uplink which also translates to higher download speeds and vice versa. At times the network might be slow as a result of congestion, due to constant request from network users. This is only possible when tens of thousand of users are downloading at the same time. Exhausting the server bandwidth and finally crashing the server, same strategy use to DDOS a web server. These scenario is unlikely to occur as some user will be downloading movies, softwares etc, some will be surfing web pages while some will be offline but imagine, when the users of a particular network decided to team up to download large files from different url at the same time, these will congest telecomm servers and might lead to crashing of telecomm servers or temporarily put it offline. Though Telecomm networks have added hundreds of additional servers with unlimited bandwidth. Generally a telecom network that stream HD videos (high defination videos) without buffering is okay orelse you are gradually reducing the life span of your laptop battery due to the extra power consumed by your external modem/phone battery due to additional power consumed by edge/3g/hspda and a waste of time on a sluggish network. In my area mtn is the best, follow by airtel and glo etisalat is the worst b'cause only eti edge is available. |

Ur Internet/Download speed differs depending on which modem one uses. E.g GLO BOLT is a 3G Modem therefore., u dnt expect ur downloads to hit past 350kb/s or 3.2mb/s(Downlink connection speed). If u use a GLO NETPRO Modem which is a 3.5G Modem.. U'd be getting around 800kb/s to 1.2mb/s or 6-7mb/s(downlink).. Personally, using Etisalat's Network, I get arnd 850kb/s-900kb/s Steady. |
